I found a web page (can't remember where) that says that the games that come free with DBP have the source code included. I can't find the code and knowing that DB executables are DB interpeters with the source code attached, I assumed they wanted us to find the code in the executable, but it's 14.9 MB and Notepad freezes when I try to open it.

Serious bug: The exit button didn't work in Riftspace so I had to close it in Task Manager, then my computer restarted.

These games are still being developed to my knowledge, and I very much doubt he released the source code or ever will any time soon.

Maybe they mean the games actually written in DBPro, Starwraith and Riftspace were written in DBClassic, only the creator could release the source code for them, which I doubt he would.

That's a bit of myth, neither DB or DBpro include your code in 'source form'. While pro is compiled down (operationally) to machine code, DB however executes your code from byte code format.

They are just games that demonstrate darkbasic pro's potential, no source code is included.

They certainly don't include the source code, and there's no page on our site that says they do.

That's strange, I wonder who wrote that page if it's not true. From what I remember, this is what it said.

Quote: "
In the early days of BASIC gamers would look at the source code and modify it to give themselves unfair advantages. Many of these hackers grew up to be game programmers. That's why Dark Basic Professional comes with two free games: Riftspace and Star Wraith; with source code included for you to examine and modfidy the game.

Cool, I do love a good work of fiction, do aliens invade at any point?

I challenge you to find a page *on our site* that says anything even remotely similar to that. I wouldn't have written it in the first place because (a) neither of those games are written in DBPro and (b) Shaun has never released the source code to them.

I must have gotten the games confused with something else; maybe they were talking about the Help file examples.

Sorry for this useless thread everyone.

Why where both games released with DBPro if not an attempt to say "hey look what you can make in DBP!" That makes no sense at all. I'm sure no one will complain that they got them, I'm really just curious as to why, if A) neither was written by TGC and B) the game was not written in DarkBASIC Pro in the first place. This isn't an attack, just something I'm curious about.

Just a publishers deal, nothing to do with us. We just sell the Fast Trak version of DBPro (they are the publisher, we're the developer), and I guess they thought it'd help to give it away with some freebies.

tut tut, publishers are the ruin of good products. Just ask David Braben!
