I realise I'm just digg-link whoring here, but for those of you who don't visit digg.com, I found this link interesting. It's a compilation of clips shot at very high frame rates.

There are a bunch in the middle which I found very useful, with regards to game dev; it's interesting to see how a gun works in slow motion, or how something explodes. Should be quite useful for reference.

I'm sure GC3 will dig on the lighter at the start - particle effects aplenty!

I love digg
edit: Check my site - I have a module running on my site to either track diggs for posts which I have either dugg directly or are links to diggs - or there is a link to digg a new post if you feel its necessary!

Some good visual references in that, although the video itself is quite low-res (atleast on here it was)

Don't think they showed too many guns or denoted explosions as would've been ideal for general gamedev but still some good stuff.

Liked the 20mm barrel gun, never knew it did a smoke ring before the shot was actually fired.

That's a cool video chap. Good choice of the Prod too I thought. Water baloon to the face is a classic. And how the f*** they can get a camera to follow a sabot, I have no idea. I guess they precalculate the velocity or something and sync the rotation of the camera. Crazy stuff.

brilliant video, i loved the slug passing into the plastic bottle filled with water. I suppose its possible to capture a model being destroyed in a 3d app using a physics engine and a bit of clever modelling, slowing stuff down really does help you appreciate the interactions and forces present in the object being destroyed. prolly the best app to model such a thing on is MAYA, it has some really kickass physical simulation properties and a fluid/thermodynamics dynamics system to allow accurate modelling of everything from water drops with surface tension to nuclear explosions, in fact the nuke at the beginning of terminator 3 was done in maya, with a fluid dynamics system written by students.

very inspiring stuff for games writers and effects fiends.

Very nice, my favorite was the half gallon water bottle getting shot. It was straight up traumatized, a very nice visual of a semi-rigid body totally getting disrupted.

I also enjoyed the human dummy getting obliterated by the explosion. I hate movies where the hero gets blown back, when in reality they're dead smack in the kill radius and would get turned into hero dust. Too bad Charlie's Angles wasn't more realistic

Come see the WIP!

The waterballon ones where very good, the way the ballon vanishes leaving a ball of water was a great effect. I liked the bird taking off as well. I got bored with the bullet ones. I'd have to see them so some slow motion fireworks like firewheels and sparklers.

I lay upon my bed one bright clear night, and gazed upon the distant stars far above, then I thought... where the hell is my roof?
