Hello everyone! a few minutes ago I was in a computer store and I saw a freeBSD distro for under $30 marked down and I just decided to buy it. I use free Linux distros usually but from what I here freeBSD is pretty good and the one I bought came with over 15,000 programs. I just wanted to know if any of you use BSD and how it stands up to Linux. Thanks!

freeBSD for $30? The name is a little misleading isn't it?

of course not,lol IT is a distro that comes with over 13,000 programs on 10 disks so I didnt mind shelling out the extra cash. Also comes with every compiler I can think of

Even one I just made up in my head! Ha! didn't think so!...I'm sorry do excuse me, for that uhh outburst.

Well it sound like good value to me, Linux does come with a lot of good sh**, but don't just go for a Linux distributor because of the amount of programs, you will find you will have the ones you need anyway and any extras should be downloadable, I think stuff like Suse, Redhat and Unbuntu (If you're running geForce, supposedly ATI drivers for it are a pain to set up) are ones to look at as well as others , I don't know about BSD, first I've heard of it as I'm afraid I've never used it, simply because I'm not allowed to partition my hard drive, so I'm going to wait until I get a new computer or just an external HD.

Free BSD is a very good Unix variant, dont confuse linux and unix, similar but very different.
FreeBSD will run on macs and pcs, most linux variants require a mac version.

I'm more of a Linux fan. I would use Linux all the time, but there are too many programs I use that can't run under an emulator. Such as DB Pro and World of Warcraft. Although I've never tried FreeBSD, I have heard good things.
