This is related to premiership football/ "soccer" before any of you ask

Was anyone else flattened when Arsenal lost to Bolton 3-1? I was shocked when Manchester United lost to Celtic, but Bolton rocking Arsenal? Again?!? I honestly didn't see it coming. They kept playing that stupid third-man release strategy and I was screaming at the TV saying "open to the right! Open to the right!" Silva's header was impressive, but one goal from a corner was far less than I expected from the Gunners.

Who do you guys have picked for tomorrow's match? In the Premier league my two favorite teams are Manchester United and Arsenal, so obviously I want Manchester to beat Chelsea, but I'm not sure if they'll pull it off But I'm hopeful, so I'll say Manchester 1-0.

Chelsea/Man U was a good game.

It's not that surprising that Arsenal lost to Bolton, they are just the type of team to mess up Arsenal's game, tough man-to-man marking and powerful forwards.

3-1 isn't fair at all. It should have probably been a draw.

I don't think Arsenal are completely out of it. I'll make my final prediction in January, but for now it is Chelsea for the quadruple, although I think Arsenal will probably take on of the cups...

Definately an English team to win CL. I think I might actually put money on that

It freaks me out a little that someone from Binghamton, NY may well now know about "Wigan", since they're in the premier league. It freaks me out because it embodies the "small town" thing so well.

It's a cultural desert. A grade-A poophole populated almost entirely with perochial, knuckle scraping morons.... I emplore anyone who is unfamiliar with Wigan to turn away from the TV if an interview with a fan should appear.

All that said, at least Wigan fans are from Wigan ... I think it's actually a written law that Man U fans must not be from Manchester.

EDIT --- I hate to perpetuate the "English laughing at foreigners" type humour, but whenever I hear of Americans watching Football/Soccer, I think of Dennnis Pennis' sketch on the subject.

lol it's not really because they're the best, it's mostly because my British friends have argued about those teams since my childhood. Growing up I had three friends from England, from the second grade until now (one of them I had a falling out with, one of them unfortunately died a few years ago, but the third I talk to every day). Anyway, One of them was from Manchester and the other two were from London, and with two Manchester United Fans against one Arsenal fan, I always heard the MU side of the debate more, but liked Arsenal almost as much

I dunno, I'd love it if Arsenal pulled through to the final, but I think it'll end up being the reds versus the blues, in which case I'm naturally rooting for Manchester (I don't like Chelsea, but I was rooting for them when they played Bolton out of spite lol). If the Reds and the gunners were facing off, I don't think I could watch the match lol, too much conflict of interest!

Absolutely pointless question here, but: who do you guys think is the best scorer in the Premiership? Not the top scorer, but the best scorer... like, the shooter who makes you jump off the couch whenever he zeroes in on the box? Being a vocal reds fan I'm sure I don't need to say who my favorite is, lol. But who do you guys like?

Isn't Jon Stead on loan from Sunderland? And aren't they Champions league? We don't get many of those games here in the States... it's all Premiership and ECC unfortunately.

Thierry Henry is sick (in a good way) and my favorite guy on the Arsenal bench, him and Julio Baptista. I think Lauren is pretty good, too, but his injury last season was pretty sucky. What made it worse was that my Reds caused it . But eh, what can you do, that's the game for you.

Rooney used to be the guy who made me jump off the couch, but he's, I dunno, chubby and slower now. Not to say he's a bad player or anything... he's the opposite. But I think there's room for improvement there. And the reds losing Nistelrooy was heartbreaking I think... we needed him I completely and utterly blame Alex Ferguson for it and I don't think many of us Reds fans will EVER forgive him for that.

I wonder how Beckham feels, parked on the sub bench with Nistelrooy, another Manchester United trade, scoring all of the time? I can't imagine he has many good things to say for Real's management.

Stead is on loan yes, and no, we are in the Championship. The football league is where the REAL football takes place. It's more open and exciting than the Premiership. Even La Liga is more open this year...

I wish I could see those games. The closest I could get is setting up matches in EA's FIFA 2006, lol. I love that game... I took crummy Oxford United and turned them into a five-star team while only doing three transfers and the rest through scouting. Rock . I'm thinking about getting 2007, but I'm not sure if I should spend my money on it. If it's anything like Tiger Woods, which hasn't changed much since 2004, then it'd probably end up being money wasted

I love it, it's a great game. I'm having an issue though with the World Cup. Can you play in the world cup in Manager mode? Has anyone else gotten to do that? I have a level 9 manager but I never get to manage the world cup team. Each time a world cup year comes around and I get to pick a new team, I go into the team selection screen (when it asks if you want to stay with your current club, I say no), but there's no World Cup team, or just an "England" team (I'd love to make England win it). Is the world cup not accessible through manager mode? I can do it through tournament mode but it isn't the actual world cup

I dunno, look at the table guys, Manchester's rocking it this season. I'd be sort of surprised at this point if they didn't win the Premiership. I have no love for Bolton, and when they defeated Arsenal I thought I felt a tear coming on. It doesn't seem right, even though its happened before . I'm telling you guys, armageddon is upon us lol, Bolton beating Arsenal twice, it just isn't right!

Although I'm kind of an Arsenal fan, and not a massive Chelsea fan, Essien's goal was just awesome.

So was Matthew Taylor's for Portsmouth vs. Everton.

Ouch, the league removed Essien's strike from youtube... that's weak. But Taylor's shot was SICK! He was midfield! MIDFIELD! How often do you see shots like that?!? Reminds me of a few of Beckham's Man U. shots back when he still had some talent .

Coly cow just watched Chelsea/Wigan, five goal thriller - Robben wins it with a 25 yard shot on 94 minutes.

Some AMAZING games today.

Clearly, *clearly* the Premiership is the best league in the world.

Too bad Arsenal and Liverpool mucked up their starts, else we would have had a sweet four way battle for the title. Still, two points in it and Man U haven't played at Stamford Bridge yet.

BAH, Adebayor was MUGGED and ROBBED I totally thought he was going to score a fourth game in a row. Not like it mattered since we won anyway. What's up with Thierry Henry? How long is he going to stay off the pitch? Not that Van P. and Adebayor are bad or anything, but seriously, I think they haven't been playing as good since he hurt his neck. I never expected them to get scored on and if it wasn't for Van P.'s gorgeous shot inside the box in the last few minutes of the game, Arsenal would have left with a tie. It was a super-ugly game, too, no form in the first half, just utter violence

OH MY GOD!

Who saw THAT coming! For those of you who missed today's Aresenal game, it ended 1-nil... in favor of SHEFFIELD! The first time they've beaten Arsenal in well over thirty years! It was an embarrasing goal for Arsenal fans... Lehmann just stood off the goal and came in to intercept Sheffield United's Christian Nade, who was tackling against Arsenal's right defender, and when Nade saw the opening he pounced on the Gunners' goal. Sad, really, but at least Sheffield fans finally have something worth bragging about

But in all honesty, I don't think they won it as much as Arsenal lost it. How many big players are off the pitch from injuries and whatnot? Thierry Henry, Adebayor, Gallas, Hleb, Wallcot... the list continues? With the proper roster this never would have happened. But still, I must admit that Sheffield won fair and square, even with a substitute goalie. Oh yeah, and if you missed the match... Sheffield's goalkeep, Kenny, pulled his groin and was replaced by what looked like a substitute DEFENDER (yes, defender, not a keeper), and they swapped shirts on the pitch. I don't know Sheffield's lineup, but whoever he is, he was able to stop a bouncer from Robin Van Persie, a shot that I was positive at the time was going straight to the back of the net. Anyway, remarkable game. Scream on Sheffield fans, and wear this victory like a badge on your sleeves. Next time, you won't be so lucky

Arsenal away is often like that.

Just watched Man U/Newcastle which was a very good game, and keeps the title race close... could have been pretty much over.

Ugh, I was remarkably frustrated with Christiano Ronaldo all throughout today's match. After this massive streak he's had during the holidays, to fumble as much as he was fumbling is inexcusable, at least to a reds fan like myself . But it was a really, really good game regardless. I was surprised by Newcastle's showing... The only real notables they had on the field were Emre and Martin but they fought off the all-mighty reds, to a standstill anyway. That was impressive imo.

Awesome, other Man u fans ! Some people argue that it's too early to make predictions, there's still quite a few games left in the season, but I mean seriously, the only team who could catch up to them at this point is Chelsea and after the punch-up at Villa it just seems all the more difficult for them to pull out a third consecutive title win. They could do it, but I'm hoping they won't The Reds haven't won it since... ugh... '02 was it? We've been waiting quite some time for this. Not nearly as long as some teams [*cough* Rovers! *cough*], but still, it's been a while, and we need to maintain our absolute dominance over the Premiership

In other news... I'm getting more and more frustrated that I can't see the Arsenal match. I might go to their website in a bit and see if maybe they have clips or something, else I'll end up searching youtube for the match... I desperately want to see it I keep hearing that Henry's return to the pitch was fantastic and I'd love to get the chance to see it!

03-04 was The Untouchables.

The best team the Premiership has ever seen, I think. Odds for them winning 04-05 were stupid, 5-1 on or something. Then Senor Jose turns up having won the CL that year, Viera jumps ship, and somehow Chelsea finish at the top.

Oh, and who was it that ended the mighty Arsenal's forty nine match unbeaten run? A wee little sixteen year old called Wayne f-ing Rooney.

That match at Old Trafford was legendar. Just wonderful. The second Rooney goal was the icing on the cake. I still haven't deleted it from my Sky+.

btw it was his birthday so I think he was 18 at that match.

Nay nay nay, his first Premiership goal was when we was still a wee nipper of 16. He was playing for Everton. It was his first premiership appearance, when he was completely unfamous. The youth coach basically said to David Moyes, "This guy is f**king unbelievable, but him in that match against Arsenal we have no hope of winning".

After he scores (and puts in an awesome performance) the commentator goes "Wayne Rooney - remember the name".

It does tend to make me upset about Euro 2004 though. We were crap without him. Not being an ass, but we were definately the best team at Euro 2004.

Owen and Rooney up front, both on top form, the blinding midfield of Beckham pretty much at his best, Lampard and Gerrard on seriously good form (as ever) and Joe Cole getting there, then quite simply the world's best defense consisting of the best full backs in the world (Neville and Cole) and the second best central partnership after Italy (Terry and Ferdinand), Terry being the best defender in the world tied with Cannavaro.

After Rooney got injured we just couldn't play.

At least Greece won it in the end meaning it was pretty much written off as a proper tournament.

Is it just me, or is Rooney having a bad season? He hasn't been scoring like usual and it seems like every time he gets the ball he's crossing it to C.R., like he's afraid of the net or something. Anyone else noticing that?
