Ok, so here it is. The instructions (quite detailed) are included in the ZIP.

PLEASE for goodness sake, give me some feedback, it took a while to figure out, and create, some kind of response would be nice.

Would be great to see some screens of what you do with it!

Thanks butterfingers...

I just tried it out with some crappy textures to see if it worked... which it did... it's really good...

The instructions were very clear and easy to follow but I expect that some people won't take the time to read them through and then ask how to make it work..

I also love the license agreement

Thanks again

I can awnser that - yes, you can use TGA. In Techinical Stuff in my FAQ thingy it has a list of formats:
http://www.irwinsoftware.com/fpsctech/

I'm getting the next update to the website ready as there isn't much yet, but I'm changing hosts so it will be a few days.

Butters - really nicely done. I don't have any good images so I'll probally just test with red images with less and less trancparency as they go.

Is it in the same place as the script is pointing to? Try png (make sure to change the file names in the script too)

I used the blood found in texturebank\common\overlays\blood and just copied bits and pieces of it for the different huds.
I used the gimp, cropped a piece of the blood texture and pasted it into a new image with no background and saved it as blood1.dds and so on.
I think it would be neat if those who downloaded and are using the BFVDS do take a pic or pics and upload them.
I think it will be interesting to see what people have come up with and I think Butters would appreciate seeing his hard work paying off as well.

I'm having the same problem. It's telling me the image couldn't be loaded at some random line number even though I put all my blood#.dds files and death.dds file in the right place...ne ideas?

EDIT: ok I remade my images but they only display when I'm at like 20-50 health and they appear in random places on the screen. Also, even though my images had the the white backgrounds removed from them, the whites still showed up. I attached a zip file with the images enclosed. Can anyone help me out? I just want the images to appear in the center of the screen and not be white.

Hey Butters, I finally got my textures working for the bloodsplats, but now all my NPC's r black and I'm having other graphics issues. ne ideas?

EDIT: Also, do you think your script could be modified to affect the background music? So it'll play faster and faster as the player takes more and more damage, or it plays different music as the player takes more and more damage? Lemme know what you think.

Ok guys, here's the skinny.

I only edit my setuplevel.fpi script after I build my level. Therefore I had no idea that it would cause an error if you tried to build your game with my edited setuplevel.fpi.

Here's how to fix build errors.

Build your game with the regular setuplevel.fpi The bloodsplats that you've saved into the gamecore\huds folder will be copied across because that's the default, all you have to do then is open the language bank of your built game and replace the old setuplevel.fpi, with my updated one, and you shouldn't get any errors.

Quote: "but they only display when I'm at like 20-50 health and they appear in random places on the screen."

I don't want to be horrible to you dude, but I said in the licence that this script was NOT noob friendly. If you check out the setuplevel.fpi you'll notice that it's DESIGNED to display the blood at health below 40 and put them in random places on the screen. If you want to change the position or time that the blood appears on the screen you'll have to edit the values in the setuplevel.fpi.

Quote: "Butters: Does the blood hud completely change when health is lost, or is the next hud simply added on?"

Next image simply added on. I might do an update soon, with a couple of different ways the blood appears etc, but lets be honest, I've given you the basis, it's not that hard to edit it to work how you want.
I'm away from home right now, but I'll have a look at it when I get home...

When you say "build" do you mean finish the game and compile it? I'm sorry I don't get what you mean, although I have figured out how to make the bloodsplats appear where I want and at what health levels.

I downloaded it and followed the instructions.
It is quite simple to use the script.
The only effort that is required on your part is to read the instructions, follow them and make your own huds...and he even gives you instructions on how to do that.
If all else fails and you are having trouble making the blood huds you can use the ones that come with FPSC.Just modify them however you wish and change the name to blood1.dds or whatever the name of the hud is at the moment.

Well, you got farther then what happened to me. Here is a pic of what mine turned out like. I just gave up at this point.

NOTE~ those are not the blood splats i was going to use, it was for testing, just something I did in a few seconds, only the black wouldn't go invisible, don't now why.

[EDIT] Okay, I got it to what is happening to you, everything works fine, but characters come out black, figures

Some people are starting to REALLY jar me off!

The issues you are having are un-related to my script.

Jenkins your issue (from the screeny) looks like you have specified a skybox that does not exist! If your characters come out totally black, try turning off shaders.

Look. if your splats come up on the screen then the script is working. Don't come bitching to me that you can't get the background on the blood to disappear, it's not my problem if you don't have the right imaging software same goes for black characters. It's not my script, get new graphics drivers...

merry christmas.

Like I said in previous posts I follwed the instructions and it works fine for me.
I was going to make a vid of it but my computer and fraps are having it out again.
This is an excellent script and if I don't want any huds in my game there will be a way for the player to know he or she needs health.
Even if I decide to use huds in the end it is still a cool looking thing.
I can't blame you for being a little steamed,Butters.
It's not like it takes rocket science to follow simple instructions.

Sorry butters, i forgot to post about this perticular thing. The script was setup for skybox<generic<ngt. But my ngt was in skybox<NATURAL<ngt. So yeah I fixed that. And about black characters, I don't even have shaders on. So I guess I'll try it with it on. But yeah, I followed this thread completely, sorry to upset you. I'm just a very unlucky person, I did everything exactly as it was instructed

uhm, this would only work if the player carries glasses. I meen its unrealistic to have blood on your eyes as seen on this screenshot. I prefer the red effect as it is now. Anyways, the effect is cool. But doesnt really fit in in my opinion< (or i may not getting the purpose right)

I wander how hard it would be to make a health bar from this..........

Very very nice Butters, and I worked out why some people are having the weird effects.

If you do get the weird effects:

Open the setuplevel.fpi (Butter's one) and change the skybox to
ww2\gas

Change the fog to 0.

Some people may only have to do the sky one, others may only have to do the fog one, others - obviously - will not need to do either.

nice one ed.

I'm actually working on a new update, which makes things go blurry when your health is really low.

I can add the update setuplevel.fpi command to this one to make it more suitable to the update, although it should be fine without any tweaking.

peace,

Thanks.

I just used the bullethole decals and it looked brilliant.

I know how you'd do a healthbar... It would have to be one with lots of sections
