Hi everyone

After all that the community's given i haven't really gave much back (If anything really ) so i decided to setup a webhost for you all basiclly my friend gave me 5 domains for free (sunrise3d.co.uk , rct3rc.net , whiteknucklegame.com , 3drz.com , greatgames3d.com )

And well i've got unlimited diskspace and bandwidth so... i thought why not host i get it all for free and i'm allowed to do whatever i want with it , i'm already hosting batvink and he seems happy with it.

BOTH Plans are free it's if you have a domain or not that varys the plan a bit.

Basic plan:
Disk space Unlimited
MySQL databases quota Unlimited
Traffic Unlimited
Mailboxes 1
Redirects 1
Autoresponders 1
MySQL databases 1
FTP 2

Completely free

Pro Package:
Validity period Nov 28, 2006 Unlimited
Disk space Unlimited
MySQL databases quota Unlimited
Microsoft SQL databases quota Unlimited
Traffic Unlimited
Mailboxes Unlimited
Redirects Unlimited
Mail groups Unlimited
Autoresponders Unlimited
Mailing lists Unlimited
MySQL databases Unlimited
MS SQL databases Unlimited
Shared SSL links Unlimited

Completely free again

Screenshot of plesk:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/xt/xt_apollo_pic.php?i=1058851

Sorry if this seems a bit "omg that's so unfair just coz i don't have a domain i don't get load's extra" well most of the pro package is only accessable via plesk and for each account i'll manually setup a blank db and mail box and ftp for everyone hence why it'd be to much to keep up with

What server does it run on?
this is a dedicated server a friend of mine gave me, he runs totalgamerz.net and said to me i could do hosting if i want

Post below if it's of any intrest to you and i'll get everything setup with the details you want.

Note: Horde webamil is broken at the moment so mailbox's are broke temporairly.

Statuslesk works at the moment but http and https have died

It's working well for me. I set up a site using Joomla CMS yesterday, complete with new domain name.

what you mean taking over? i'd be happy to hel run them and host them but like the domain(s) would still need to be payed for by someone (because i haven't got enough at the moment to pay for domains like i said i got those 5 for free and i doubt i can get anymore now :/ ) but yea sounds cool need a bit more info first though

The domains are paid up for the next two years. But I'm starting to wonder, with the last years expenses, how I'm going to pay for the hosting account in march. I had hoped that a couple of people would by cheaper hosting from me (it's £45 a year with domain, for a single account with these people, I offered at £25 - £35 (depending if they wanted a .com)) Just two of these would have put me in the c lear. But free offers like this have removed any chance of my making enough to cover those other projects. Donation requests, never work on the general public. I'm able to keep paying for the SVN's that those projects (blackout and openmmo) are using, but the website hosting is definately looking shaky.

kenjar - are you selling the domain name or are you looking for somewhere to host it?

I got confused here too. Chris asked me earlier, I thought he was asking me to manage the sites

Kenjar, if you can change the nameservers for your domains, then Chris can host it.

Chris, where are these sites hosted, I assume you've got a reseller account somewhere?

I've found just one issue, but it may be fixable. I am assuming that PHP is running in safe mode, and it plays havok with component installations in Joomla. I don't think individual users can change this?

Going on what Kentaree said, I'd only ever have someone host my account if they had a reseller account with plesk access (or similar) - I'm sure this is the case with Chris's hosting however.

I've seen a number of sites go down because they've broken the usage policy by hosting external sites - perhaps most noticeably, Jimmy's site.

If you can pull it off, and it's stable enough, it sounds like Chris here has got a good deal.

Yea i'm allowed to host external sites as i've already asked when i last spoke to the server admin (guy i know) on msn he owns totalgamerz.net , i know the guy who hosts it to it's on a dedicated server as well so everything will be absolutely fine.
@kenjar
I'd be happy to host if you can keep the domains valid yourself then yea i'll be happy to host.

@Batvink

What's the error? because it's most likely permissions which you can access via Plesk alose there's 2 types of php on my server 1 is an "iss application" version iirc , does it need to be ran in that? i've never used joomla so....

Ok thanks, I'll wait to see if you are still in the business of giving away free hosting in the latter half of Febuary, if you are I'll contact you privately about the hosting. Obviously I'd continue paying the domain bills and managing the site.

I think you can configure the [free] subdomains from http://uni.cc to point to custom name servers, so that should work for Chris' hosting .

i'm sorry, but i don't quite understand this... how different of a link could i give people that would still forward them to my site?

[edit] i set up a account with the forwarding service at .uni.cc it has a field for "real address"

[edit] bleh, actually it looks like they force an add before people go to your site...

so, if you're still up for it i would really appreciate some hosting for a .uni.cc account

sorry bout the Delay to everyone waiting.

Edit:Looks like just http has died https works fine

Edit2: Anyone want an account setup for when it comes online again? my friends site (totalgamerz.net) where the dns and that is hosted is offline as well but https:// still work so i can update accounts still.

Yah--- a *real* webhost can cost a few bucks a month, but at least its uptime would be around 99%

I kinda think its funny when hosts say "WE GUARANTEE 99.999% UPTIME" because that's technically impossible. What the CAN guarantee is that if they DO have downtime then they will refund you. And one of the metric's you judge your host on should be the SLA (Service Level Agreement).

Most hosts disclaim stuff like act of god, powercuts and hardware failure beyond their control... but some good hosts are pretty generous.

Another factor is that if a host is cheap then its likely they're using cheap hardware which, in turn, is likely to expire before its more expensive brothers and sisters.

Sorry didn't see your post, if you've got a domain ready then i'll set it up as soon as the http starts working again and if you need a subdomain i can do that as well at the same time

Edit:
Typical, the time i try to give something back to the community it has to die on me (although only temporairly)

Edit 2:
Found the problem not as bad as first thought the iss just need's reseting because a bug in plesk triggered it if only i could reset it i've e-mailed Andrew about it though

you really shouldnt be depending on your friend to be keeping the server up.. and then using his space to host other people. i think he wouldnt have minded if he hosted you, but not all the people you are trying to.

since you dont have direct access.. there isnt much service to offer.

I'm going to have to say give Chris a break, don't complain about downtime if you're not willing to pay for professional hosting. He's just trying to give some people webspace, so stop having a go at him.
