What is the cheapest laptop you can get that will support dark basic and play games well (Without freezing or running slowly)?

About £700 with a decent game running potential

This is the very cheapest laptop I could find, but it's borderline.

£575

HP HP nx6325 AMD 64 Core Duo TL-52 512MB 60GB XP Pro
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150

This one is better for £803.70

CPU: 1.66Ghz
RAM: 1Gb
Video Memory: 256 MB
Video Output: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400

Basically look for a laptio with a nVidia Go graphic card in it. The ATI Expresses are ok, but they won't run the lastest stuff well at all, but it's good enough for sharerless, and not too complex DBP scenes.

HP Pavilion dv8333ea T2300E Core Duo 1024MB 160GB XPH

nVidia Go 7600

This should make a very good DBP developement machine, it's got enough power to run the lastest titles for a year or two, it will run Oblivion quite well. There is a used machine on sale for £875 if you want to grab a deal, though the warrenty will be limited too 90 days.

Cheapest one I found was $349.

Aspire 3680
Intel® Celeron® M Processor 410 (1.46GHz)
512MB DDR2-533 RAM
60GB Hard Drive
Combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW Drive
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 Video Chipset
10/100 Fast Ethernet Network Adapter
802.11b/g 54Mbps Wireless Ethernet
14.1" Widescreen XGA Display
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (SP2)

If you need an internet/office laptop, I think its a decent deal. Just dont expect Oblivion to even start.

Don't touch the Intel 950 Chipsets, they are vastly limited and won't run shaders effectively.

A good rule for ebay, if the price is too good to beleive, don't get it. They are selling things like Windows XP Pro for prices as low as £10, what you will end up with is a DELL Oem disk with no activation codes. They alot of smashed up, old laptops that are no good to man nor beast. If you want to avoid a scam, pay a reasonable price.

Thx for the heads-up, i was considering the model as a christmas present for someone.

As for Ebay, I only buy from people who accept paypal, no exceptions. Which saved saved me once.

Hmmmm sounds dodgy to me. I woudn't trust somebody selling a laptop for $1.

@Kenjar:I don't think I will be able to buy the laptop you reccomend. Not enough money .

That's only £170! Where did you find that laptop?

I think I'll check out that...

Microcenter. The website lists it for $449, but I saw it in the store for $100 less. (without having to sign up for anything)

I don't think Microcenter has a store in Europe though.

I'm afraid, in this area, you get what you pay for. Perhaps you should consider a desktop instead? If you have PC building skills I think you can build a reasonable Game running PC for under £400.

I've heard many good things about Microcenter Phaelax, you just added to my list. I'll need to head down to their nearest store someday with a pocketload of cash and check it out.
