not sure how many people know about this, but this is certainly interesting to all those using the internet.

if a particular lawsuit is successful, then it could see the copyright laws change conserning posession and distribution of any filetype in any form.

legally speaking this will allow corporations to begin lawsuits against even the DNS companies, as someone, somewhere is using the service they're providing in an illegal mannor.

listenign to it now, i cannot believe riaa gets away with this stuff. I would seriously back legal action against them.

edit: had to keep the post breif cause i had to go to work, turns out im not doing tonights shift so i will expand on my post:

What i can't believe their getting away with is that they are doing investigations, which im assuming is sanctione dby teh government, but they are not disclosing how they perform their investigations. In Australia we have "watchdog" groups, who's sole purpose is to ensure that other investigative groups (and other groups) are doing their jobs legally. The RIAA seems to be getting their information from unverified sources, and the dynamic ip thingy he mentions makes them catch the non internet users like the aid worker etc. I just don't understand how a judge will pass sentence when to my understanding all evidence must be checked by the appropriate parties as any evidence gotten through illegal means is inadmissible. If they can't share details of how they got the info how can their evidence be approved?! and the whole hash's in the metawhatsits is ridiculous! I could get fifty files all named paris hilton off the kazzaa program and i bet you none of them willl have paris hilton. Screen shots of someones desktop can be easily modified, just look at judge dredd the movie, they used that argument, it failed but later they found a photo that had been tampered. This new bold argument saying that any file sharing is illegal is utter bull crap, and I agree it could spell the death of the internet were it ever to be approved, as the internet is just file sharing.

i wasn't here in july when it hit, but the court-case itself that is mentioned in the phonecall started yesterday.
people tend to forget about important milestones cause of how long winded the legal systems are... so everyone gets amped then nothing happens for ages, by the time most get up to date again is when they notice on the news that something huge has happened.

thought i'd post up cause it was on reuters, and i expect to see some more news about this in the weeks to follow.
