The Gimp is free.
You should get it.
You can use it with Paint to get some decent looking stuff.

I have gimp, but I really don't know how to use it. Since I was a little kid I've always just played around on paint so I've gotten to know how to do everything on that. I took a class at school on photoshop cs2 and got really good, but I don't have the money. These crosshairs aren't bad for paint though, I think.

[EDIT] Come on people, please comment.

Well, there pretty pixilated man. I'm sure there good for Ms paint, but the the problem with items like this or models that are someones first try, is there not even as good as the stock TGC ones. It's coo and all your trying to make things but you can't expect people to jump for joy when they could use a stock crosshair.

I know people like to feel appreciated and giving, but the time you wasted posting this thread could have been 2 minutes practicing on gimp that you dont know so well.

Good luck

In the picture, I agree. But in game it they actually come out very nice. And when I said "come on comment" I just wanted some feedback, and I'm glad you don't like them because you are entitled to your opinion.

Thanks silent thunder and slayer 2. I'm glad at least someone likes them. In game they look much better.

He asked for opinions/comments. I personally like Errants idea he discussed on his forum. We need a "Bear Pit" forum here. All purely complementary post get deleted. There will come a time when you guys will realize that having people around you, kiss your butt and tell you how great something is does nothing to further your development.

When I posted my gun, all I got were "atta-boys" from people, that didn't help me. I knew the gun looked decent. I had to post another forum to get some harsher criticisms so I knew what to correct.

I gave him an atta boy for trying. I can't help it to me it looks like the image was done in 5dpi. I can count every square on the curves. He said they didn't really look like that so I don't know why he didn't show a picture of them looking as good as they could.

I figure if you want people to gush all over your achievements give your mom a pic to hang on the fridge. If it's good I'll say its good. If I wouldn't use it if you paid me to, I'll say that as well. Being politically correct helps no one. And if you don't want people to eye fornicate your media don't post it.

*agrees with locrain*

you need a program with an edge blur or anti aliasing tool, there are thousands of tuts for the gimp, even more than for PSCS. i also noticed that alot of the time the little dot in the middle is off center, this will give guns a sort of bad spray or bad aim effect. its a good first try, i'll admit, but come back when you've made something semi-pro, and absolutely wow the croud.

no offense.

Right now I'm at school. But when I get home, I'll post a screeny with them in game. Thank you kizza! Since I'm at school, I have access to photoshop cs2, and I have gotten fairly good at it, so I will remake these crosshairs, and put the better ones up

Locrian- I'm completely fine with what you had to say. And I completely agree with you, but it is still the fact that I just gave them away, it's the thought that counts.

Screwed Over- the dots aren't off centered. And I've used them in game, and they work just fine. I made new ones and they look really good.

[EDIT] I made some on photoshop but they didn't save for some odd reason. I saved them as a .tga but they didn't save as anything. So I'll just make them on gimp. somehow. I'll post them up in a bit.

I half agree with Locrian I think that people should acually critise the bad points of peoples meadia. But on the other hand the thought of giving somthing away even if its not perfect is nice. Also getting critisised too harshly can discourage a newer modler from continuing with his work and therfore possibly depriving the fpsc forums of a great modler.
Anyhow after my 2 cents I have to say while your crosshairs are good I had to edit some to make them a bit more balnced.

the edges are better, however, in the 3rd and 4th ones, and alot of the newer ones you mader, the dots are of center, an easy way to avoid this is to make a canvas 1x1 put a dot in it and expand the canvas 9not the image) to a size like 51x25, it has to be an odd number to keep the dot perfectly centered. i've attached a pic of a crosshair i made for a game i play, you'll notice the size of the canvas and that the dot is centered due to how i said to center the dot.

Screwed Over- Thank you very much for the help. I was always having problems with centering the dot. Thank you very much

Slayer_2- I know the second to last one is terrible. I was just practicing how to do stuff on Gimp, and decided I might as well give it away.

screeny

I tried the canvas thing, but it messes up for some odd reason. I set it to 1x1 at first and then changed the CANVAS size to 63x63 and the red dot just went straight to the top right corner. So I didn't do that and I just made the canvas 63x63 and think I centered it correctly.

im not sure if the gimp can resize the canvas from the center, PS always does and thats what i use, you may just have to count the pixels along one by one (very irritating i know). however, you could make a layer with a dot in it, then copy that dot delete it and paste it, it should be centered, its just thats longer than my usual method so i didnt suggest it....

I'm at school and our school doesn't permit downloads. But does Gimp have a paste-in-place option? If it does then that should work if a make a canvas 3x3 and copy it then paste in place it in the actual crosshair one. All have to check that out when I get home.
