After buying the DARK BASIC PRO i wanted (like all newbies) to make a GTA style game, but without standards too high. So i sat down and planned out a system that will be simple, and not take more than a few weeks to complete.

In this game i decided to make it like a shell, if you will, of a GTA game that i plan on posting the source of. The buildings will be simple Rectangular prisms, and the main character and his gang will be spheres, and the enemies boxes and then the civilians cones.
(with the source i will tell you when to plug in there own files.)

This is what i am working on right now:
General System
Weapons
Vehicles
Airplanes
Story
Gang Owning system
Keep i mind we are still working on this and i am sorry that there are no screen shots, we will show character renders soon though.

Please, any comments (positive or negative) please tell me where it improve.
THANK YOU!

Haha.

If you complete this, this game'll be big. it has a unique graphical style, and it'll be funny to play this

Good luck. It looks good. (Even though i haven't seen much )

Oh now, quit teasing us. We all need to see what kind of models will be in the strip club!

hehe, seriously, keep up the work. It sounds kind of fun and unique.

Spheres stripped of their normals, you can only see their wire frame, ooh saucy

Nice idea for a game, I like what you're going for, I admire how newbies come up with such silly looking fun games, like squirrel wars, absolute legend.

haha sweet. Well I'm afraid that image breaks the AUP, we only allow for 'tasteful nudity', but that sphere is is just too bare, you might offend

Kinda cool that you could make the stripped dance just by squeezin and squashing the sphere. WHo needs an animator?

that's the engine thats 40%, that's about the same for my game, and there isn't much gameplay/graphically to show there, but screenshots would be cool, it will show us how well you're getting on, so we can comment Generally in a 'Work in progress' thread, ingane screenshots are standard, something most people throw hissy fits over .

You know those spheres in the top hats are actually something similar to what I need! I have this game that I want to make, but with no modelling skill I will have to rely on Royalty Free models. But for the main character I needed hamsters. Yep animated hamsters! But after looking at this game, which looks fantastic I might change from using hamsters and use a primitive! Beats animating!

I'll take you up on that offer!

Yes, while i am 40% done, they are controls and such, but the graphics are not integrated yet, i still have hundreds more to make a truly unique GTA style game, but i will post soon on what i can throw together for a game.

You should keep going. It sounds awsome. Also, there is a program I got called Tatoo. You can paint graphics on your guys. You should have smiley faces. And have a Wal-Mart with those yellow smiley faced guys. Please continue your project! Sounds totally awesome.

Well; here is the beginnings of a movement engine, W&S to go forward and back, mouse to look around and manoeuvre. You will need the maincharacter.x that can be found here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/xt/xt_apollo_download.php?i=1071739

I really hope people will add to this; I just coded it because I'm totally new to DarkBASIC; I'm currently a C++ programmer and just wanted to delve right in, so this is what I came up with. The mouse camera movement function is from the codebase, because I couldn't work out how to do that myself.

I really hope people will add to it, would be kinda cool to see the game actually take shape; and would be a great learning tool for me.

EDIT: I'll be adding in control over a rough surface later today.
