yea Today we purchased a car. A blue Honda Civic LX, 1998. We are going to go pick it up tomorrow morning. I can't wait, so excited to have my own car.

heres the list of somewhat obsolete "pros"

# 12 Volt Power Source
# 6 Disc Cd Changer
# Air Conditioning
# Am/Fm Stereo & Cd Player
# Carpeting
# Clock
# Coin Holder/Tray
# Console
# Courtesy Light(S)
# Cruise Control
# Cup Holder(S)
# Day/Night Rear View Mirror
# Dual Air Bags
# Dual Side View Mirrors
# Dual Sun Visors
# Front Bucket Seats
# Gauge Cluster
# Interval Wipers
# Manual Seat Adjustments
# Map Pocket(S)
# Master Window Lock
# Mp3 Player
# Power Brakes
# Power Door Locks
# Power Mirrors
# Power Steering
# Power Windows
# Radial Tires
# Reclining Seats
# Remote Fuel Door
# Remote Trunk Lid
# Tachometer
# Temperature Gauge
# Tilt Steering Wheel
# Trip Odometer

Radial tires sounded like round tires at first, I was like "thank god we didn't get the square ones"

also heres a picture of it, shes a beaut.

Congrats! If you come down here you might can get one for around $4k Atlanta is alot higher Of course that is a great price for that car which should list around $6k unless it has high miles (over 100k) or something.

Nice! I remember getting my car... 'Twas a big day indeed. Though it was also a pretty tough day as it was also the day I wrote my first check

Great car! I absolutely love Civics and wish I could have afforded one. I got my first car just a few months ago, and my life is completely different. It's just great to be able to go wherever you want when you want and not rely on other people. And being able to offer girls rides certainy isn't a down side...

Good stuff man. Civics are very reliable, solid cars. I've got an old skool '95 model coupe with 58k on the clock, so it's pristine. Always started first time.

lol, some of those 'features' you listed seem a bit well "given" i guess you got that schpiel from the seller. Some of them seem a bit like "well, duh" such as.

Dual Side Mirrors!
A coin Tray!
A Tachometer! (a RPM Dial)
A Clock!
Carpeting!

I'm surprised a steering wheel and engine arn't listed...

In fact, you better check up on that!

Looks like a nice car, enjoy driving it over old ladys, remember its double points for ones with a shopping trolley

haha, well It was apparent that all the loan stuff was taken care of but it really wasnt. We were supposed to get it last night, then this morning...now We might not even get this one. Theres a black coup in Gwinett County thats a coup with less miles. We'll see how this plays out, I might be ridin like fallout.

oh no, another civic driver. Just dont slap on a resonator and start racing every car on the road. (nothing personal against you or your car, just the whole "rice" scene)

you'd be surprised how many cars i've seen with only 1. (including my first car, '89 daytona)

I like your rims btw.

hahaha I'm not gonna rice this thing out, A friend has a whole yard full of parts and stuff he is gonna help me do some good stuff to it. When I say that I'm not talking about aesthetically of course.

I definately am getting this one, just the bank isnt hopping right on it, as its not a jag or anything 5k isn't that much to worry about over the busy holiday weekend. I'll get it within a few days, no use in picking it up before the loan is here and being stuck with like 12% interest.

I don't know if its a vtec or not, but this guy has like whole engines sitting around, I'm sure I can supe it up pretty nicely.

No vtec, I can tell by the color. Those "si" models only came in 3 colors and don't think that shade of blue was one of them. I think the vtech in '98 was only 127hp anyway.

hm, i might be wrong. Is 'ex' the same as 'si'?

@Phaelax

You have a point mate. Civics have a bad rep, and it shows on your insurance. My car is insurance group 14 for a 1.5i variable valve. In comparison, my dads Mazda 3 TDI with the same BHP is group 5. About £200 for me to get insurance on the Mazda and £400 on my civic, all because of them barry boys.

Odd did you ever read the Honda Civics rant on my personal website? I'm not implying you're one of the people I complain about in the rant but I thought it was amusing and worth mentioning lol.

Civics are awesome. My best friend Colin, the summer after we graduated High School, drove from New York to Florida, over to California, up to Seattle, and back to New York, all in his 1989 civic. The best part: when he got to Pennsylvania, he was supposed to get an oil change. He didn't get one until he got to California. Incredibly, the car kept running without a problem, thousands of miles after not getting the scheduled oil change. If Honda Civics aren't the most reliable cars in the world, dare I ask what is?

Is it manual or automatic? I prefer manual personally, unless I'm in heavy traffic... nothing worse than driving a manual in heavy traffic. Stop, go, stop, go, stop, go, stop, go...

you can go many miles past the scheduled oil change, but you shouldn't. There was a guy who drove a brand new jeep 22k miles without an oil change. Does that make jeep more reliable? No, the engine was toast and the dealership refused to cover the replacement regardless of warranty.

civics get great gas mileage and are very reliable, but as far as HP goes you may as well be driving a moped. No offense to any civic drivers.

ugh, i hear ya man. my daytona was a manual and i live in a big city.

I have a `98 Civic. It is the 4 door EX version though. I bought it new and have NEVER had a problem with it. I still only have about 70k miles on it though.

Anyway, they are GREAT cars. It has already been in the shop FAR LESS than my `05 Chevy Trailblazer.

I will keep the Civic as long as I can. Hopefully my kids will drive the thing someday. lol

@WOLF: Is it an LS or LT? The LS sucks bad in my experience, a friend of mine has to take it to the shop a lot. I own an LT, and have taken it very few times.

I have the LS EXT (entended version with 3rd row seating) Trailblazer.
It has been in the shop because of the transmision, 4WD, twice for the front bumper having a strange warp to it, the plastic moulding (with light) above the rear hatch broke off, and last winter I had it in FOUR times because of really bad fumes that were entering the vehicle. It needs inspected in March and I have a punchlist of things that they need to fix when I bring it in. The CD player broke, the rear driver side door handle is sticking, the inside moulding on the rear passanger door is coming off, the left turn signal does not work on the trailer hookup. And this is just off the top of my head.

Luckily, I got a REALLY good deal on the vehicle. Otherwise, I would have claimed it as a lemon under the "lemon law" last winter.

As I said, I LOVE my Civic

@Phaelax

On the HP issue, I agree, they're not the fastest cars in the world, BUT this is the fastest 1.5 I've ever driven (With the exception of the bloody rotary engine cars that are like 0.00000001 litre ). Honda's rev like a beehatch, and when the variable valve kicks in 4000-4500 RPM, it's like a mini turbo.

Also, dont forget there is the Type-R, 0-60 in 6.4secs and under 200BHP. Japs get great performance from their cars at low BHPs due to their power regulations. Top engineers.

Looks pretty sweet for a first car!

My first and only car is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. It's pretty sweet, I can do 0-60 in ~10 seconds, which isn't too bad IMO.

Beware though, cars are awful expensive. So many unforeseen things you have to pay for!

You must have the SE model, cause I've had a '99 and right now selling my '00 which would do 0-60 in about 6.6s.

At least the Elise is a tiny impractical car made of cardboard. Caterhams are 4 wheel trike conversions made of nothing but spit and straw.

Well, Colin Chapman was a hardcore racing fanatic, so it's only natural that anything put out by Lotus is rediculously fast. I dunno, I hate how in "Fast and the Furious"-type circles, every dork with a souped-up Civic or Neon thinks there car is the fastest car in the universe, covered in Japanese racing symbols and with an enormous exhaust tip that makes the car sound loud but doesn't do much else. 10 times outta 10, a Ferrari and a Lotus will beat a Honda and a Neon... in reverse with the e-brake on . In an efficiency contest, the Honda and Neon win hands-down, but in a race? Or a cool contest? Fuhgetaboutit! Anyway, I'm 99.9% sure that Odd isn't that kind of person, but I dunno, just rambling as usual

I dunno... I want an Elise. Or better yet, an Exige. But I wouldn't own one unless I had access to a racetrack or some rediculously long straight-away where I was free to drive at will

I always see fancy cars driving around my town. Not too far away are the big homes/mansions. Seen everything from an Elise at mcdonalds across the street from me, viper and shelby cobra down my street, and even an early 90's diablo in town. Not too mention a ton of mercedes I see driven around constantly. All I wanna know is, where the heck do all these people work at in this town?!

When I bought my new car last month, I stopped at the lamborghini dealership next door. Bentley continental, ferrari enzo, murcielago, dart swinger, and an old 60's jag. I think the cheapest car on the lot was the 70's Lotus Europa for around $50k I think. One of the largest lambo dealerhips in the country, I was afraid to walk around that place. Mustn't.....scratch....any.....aw sh*t!!!!

Some people get a half decent wage and put ALL there money on cars. One of my mates has always had a car on finance sinse he was about 19, always making payments, then upgrading his car etc. It's some peoples main hobby/passion and that's how they afford it - finance, and constantly making payments for something they've owned for 3 years already.

I know you guys like your flash sports cars, and I do too, but I've always prefered the practical technological machines. The reason why I love the Skyline is because it's a great car, with amazing performance. It has distinctive looks, without sticking out like a show-off car, but still its clearly something different. It seats 5 people comfortably, and your golf clubs and suitcase fit in the boot (unless you put a big old sub in it, but anyway ). Because it's a Nissan, you can take it to a Nissan garage, without having to treck around the country to find the nearest distributor/qualified mechanic for your car. Loads more reasons.

It's all very well liking these little sports cars and they are cool, but you generally needs another car that's practical. Why not make the car you need for practical trips the one you love driving? There's a reason you never see a Caterham in the Tesco car park.
