I was working on making a hologram and I have got the object to hover and spin. I still can't make it semi-transparent.

How do I do this?

0,0,0 RGB black is totally transparent, I don't know how it make it semi-transparent, I still haven't figured it out.

No, I haven't.

I'm assuming totally transparent means you wouldn't be able to see it, correct?

havent you ever thought of looking at the settings for a window in fpsc for example transpaency is set to 2 on there in the spot on candle's screenshot, just to save you some time

Thanks

Okay, that made it easier and I got it working (see screenie).

Add some light affects and it will look frigging awesome.

I just set it's transparency to 2 and gave it this script:

:state=0:spinrate=4,floatrate=1,setalphafade=50

well done. Good bit of problem solving, and not a flame in sight!

Might want to change the word

Quote: "frigging"

to something like "freaking" or "fleeting" or "fleece"

because

Quote: "frigging"

means

Quote: "frig1 /frɪg/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[frig] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation verb (used with object), verb (used without object), frigged, frig·ging. Slang: Vulgar.
–verb (used with object)
1. to copulate with.
2. to take advantage of; victimize.
3. to masturbate.
–verb (used without object)
4. to copulate.
5. to masturbate."

and would therefore probably not be considered suitable for use on this forum. If it is deemed not to be suitable, I would request that my post be terminated, and that it be considered that the 2 references to the word in my post were quoted from the one above and used only to illustrate the point.

peas and carrots

butters

Thanks, this solved a problem I was having as well. I tried to make a rather nice glass table for a game, by changing the texture of one of the modtables into RGB 0,0,0 and setting the effect to bumpcubreflectalpha, but it didn't show up at all. Now I just use a white texture and set the transparency to 2, problem solved.
Just as well I didn't start a new thread that would have annoyed you all.

<insert pun here> I really must get round to this

you can use alpha chanels to get semi transparency, full opacity and total transperency all in one texture. There are plenty of tutorials on the net about this.
