How do I connect to the #blender channel? I have not much IRC knowledge! I tried asking at the Game dev chat rooms but there all jerks there!

I am a hopeless 3D modeller, that is the reason I have had to give the Nvidia compo a miss (Though I have got a really good game idea, which I will put in the WIP). I reall wanted to join the compo but due to my lack of knowledge I have to feel terrible! So I am stopping My full Dark Basic for a while and concentrating mainly on 3D. As Blender is free I think I will use it. the only problem is that it's quite confusing! I have tried to read some tutorials but they didn't work and the videos aren't much good!

Plus does anyone know why the latest Blender 2.41 is slow on my computer? My specs are,

Intel Pentuim 4 2.8Ghz
604Mb RAM
128MB ATI intergrated graphics chip (Already Shared with the RAM so the 604 I have left really could be more!)

But it works slowly!
Thanks!

To connect to IRC, you need to download an IRC client which lets you connect to the chat network. Kvirc and mIRC are good choices. When you open either up, it will show a connection dialog with a list of servers. I don't know what network the blender channel is on, but you can create a new network using the buttons on the dialog, and type in the address like irc.devhat.net, and hit connect. When you're connected, type /join #blender and you'll be there.

<shameless plug>
If you want to try it out, you can try and connect to irc.devhat.net, and join #lobby, where you'll find me and a lot of other DBP users, and we can help you further if you want
</shameless plug>

just a word of warning, some user rooms are not worth going in, over time, the regular users tend to rip into new users coming into the rooms. it's a bit like asking for linux help in say #gentoo on freenode. if they had the power they would kick you out of the room within a second.

you might of experience such a room, rooms like that will die after time.

Thanks everyone! I will try out what you said Kentaree!

[off topic]
I was on the Game Dev chat the other day. They were all talking about something and I wanted to ask about my IRC query. But nobody listened, so I typed
DARK BASIC
and I became the centre of attention! Although everyone said negative things about it...

lol you have to appreciate that if you enter a channel in the middle of a heated discussion you probably woulnt get noticed, unless you joined in.

also note that most users of the devhat are former darkbasic users who have moved on to c++ etc
