So I decided to get a PSP because of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, and I'm looking for some other game suggestions that are worthy of a pickup.

The games that I know I'm going to pick up:
- Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
- Metal Gear Ac!d & Metal Gear Ac!d 2 (I'm a die-hard fan of the series)
- Killzone: Liberation (Also a fan of Killzone)
- LocoRoco

Other than that I don't know what else would be worth owning. I like the Socom series, so I was thinking about Fireteam Bravo 1 & 2, and also the new Ratchet and Clank.

Any suggestions are welcome. The only genre that I don't really like is fighting (aside from older 2D games).

Well both GTAs, other than that, Bliss Island maybe?

You'll find most full 3D games have really poor controls, because they were designed for dual analog.

Stick to games made specifically for PSP.

A DS?

j/k

Maybe you should look into homebrew stuff, dare I say it, grab some emulators and roms and enjoy the classics - clay pipe and slippers are optional.

I already own a DS and DS Lite

Normally I would, except I assume the PSP I buy will be the new firmware that will prevent me from doing so, and I'd probably end up bricking it trying.

That's what I was most worried about. Especially with the Fireteam Bravo games. I just don't see how it will play well on the PSP, and was wondering if anyone had experience with them.

This may not necessarily be your cup of tea, but LocoRoco is by far the weirdist PSP game I've played. I've only played the demo and my next on the list is Mercury 2 (I'm a bit of a puzzle type guy), but you can even play LocoRoco online at http://www.locoroco.com

Worth a look

And by the way, if you don't have the gig version, i.e. a 32mb card, don't even bother with the Homebrew scene, it aint worth the trouble in trying to downgrade a PSP to 1.50. I only ended up saying f'it because I still ended up having to upgrade to the 3.02 kernel before any of the new games will run. I'll be honest, Sony are likely to win the Homebrew wars eventually, because all new games will require the 3.02 security fixes. Moral of the story, keep your PSP safe.

[EDIT] Having said that, if you do have the gig version, get the Devhook tool and use that to run the 2.71 or 3.02 version of the kernel, that way, you can still keep the 1.50 version (if you do decide to downgrade, since this violates the warrenty anyway), then you're a cool customer.

If you've already got a DS and a DSLite, then save your money, go out and buy some homebrew hardware (jandaman.com - kicktrading.ca - etc) for them, and have some fun with the Homebrew scene (there's some AWESOME GBA & NDS stuff out there now)...

It's what a few of the users around here are into, and I gotta say, it's the best handheld to do it on!

I second the Mercury idea. Played an hour or so of that at work and was engrossed. There's a version coming to the Wii soon too--- even better

Bear in mind that "Homebrew" on the PSP recently got a shot in the arm due the to inclusion of an official Flash player (based on version 6).

This means you can play Flash games either from the web or from memory card. Or relatively easily make your own of course.

Yeah, but there are some features of the player that are not supported. I'm not too sure how well this will work with modern content, but at least Sony are making an effort to provide some leverage towards custom content and games etc..... legally.
