This is my first model. I just started metasequoia today. I know it is a crappy chair that you guys can do in 5 minutes. I'm going to bed now, but tomorrow I'll make the legs thinner because they are really fat, lol.

Also, how do I texture with Metasequoia?

good first attempt But you have to consider a thing called poly count. each one of those "squares" on the shape is a "poly" or "polygon" (and these will be doubled as each of those squares needs to turn into 2 triangles when you get it ingame). You cannot have too many polys or FPSC will slow down when you try to import it. I know it's your first model so im not moaning at you or anything, just trying to help

I always think its better to learn these kind of things earlier than later; so that you can develop a moddeling style which is low poly but still looks amazing.

And about the texture: Get good at modeling first and then we can help you with applying a texture and eventually geting it ingame.

Not bad I guess.. The only problem is, as Tyrano said, the poly count looks really high. Also, a chairs leags arent that fat! Before you start modelling something, find something to copy off, be it a photo, a real chair/object etc.
Here would be a simple chair to model:

I recommend for making simple models like this, use anim8or. There are tutorials on the site, and there is also one on FredPs site:

Good luck modelling in the future,
Yours,
Dan.

Thank you guys! I didn't know about the poly thing. I'll have to change that. I also didn't know I had to make them triangles first. It would still be kind of nice to know how to texture though:-| The poly count would be ridiculously high, lol.

I've used anim8or. But I don't like it. I like using metasequoia so far. Just a personal opinion.

This chair model isn't that bad though everyone is right the poly count is wicked high. you should try not using the subdivide so much, try to rely on mesh smoothing. I know in blender it wil smooth with out subdividing.

Try to bell out the leg bottoms a bit. keep at it man!

Thank you RF. Yeah, I didn't know about the poly count thing. This is really funny, the poly count was 147634. HAHAHA. I redid it and made it 1500 polys but I don't know if that is good or not. Thanks for the help guys.

I just made a little 3 wheeler car. I don't know if you have ever seen one, but yes they do exist. It's still is fairly cruddy but because I made it, I like it. I like my wheels too.

765 Polys. My chair, got up to like 147634 and this one is only 765. HAHAHA, that makes me laugh.

765 is high? What is a good range then?

Thanks for the comment!!! I thought it was kind of cool too. Once I get modelling down, I'll start texturing.

Probably around 4 or 5 hundred for that type of model. you do some of the detail work through texturing.

Thanks RF. I'll tone it down a bit then. Polys are still a bit better than the chair though, lol. 147634 polys, hahaha, that still makes me laugh. I just made a chest, with 125 polys. It isn't great but it at least looks like a chest. I'll post screeny in a few.

Thats alo tbetter, the edges under the lid need some fixing. you should try to bevel them. This is alot better than the chair! Keep it up man!

Thanks RF!!! Yeah, I had problems with the edges. Since I just started I'm just learning of try and fail. So I'll bevel it. Yeah the chair was a bit ridiculous.

[EDIT] I don't really understand the bevel. What is it that I need to do?

Also here is another screeny. On the chest it has so you can grip your fingers and lift the lid of the chest. Nothing spectactular, but I'm proud of what I'm accomplishing so far. There is now 135 polys

Try to smooth the edges of the box a bit.

Yeah they are really squarey (if thats a word.) When I set it to view<smooth details, it comes out much smoother but I don't know if the actual model will be like that. and whenever i use mesh smooth the polys just launch. So I don't know exactly what to do.

You could always make the lid the same size as the box. then you can rely on the lidd for the curved geomitry. don't forget to remove the top face of th box as it will not be needed after you resize the lid to fit the box.

Here is a febreze-like model I made. This is one of the newer versions of their spray bottles, but we'll pretend that is is Febrezey (copywright issues, you know how some people are, lol)

This one I kind of like. 98 polys. For a can, is that good?

Here is a new model. So far I have spent the most time on this one. It is a simple snowman. With about 250 polys, which I think is really good given that my first two had a little much polys.
