Ok, I have a wee little problem with my LCD. All of a sudden (I don't know if it happened then or if it was already there and I just hadn't noticed it), I saw this black dot. So I thought, "I need to clean this thing", and that's what I did. It still remained. So I went into paint and drew a black dot next to it. Sure enough, I discovered that the black dot was the shape of a pixel, a dead pixel.

I'm highly doubting that these things can be fixed...am I right? Also, if this is a sign that my LCD is starting to kick out I may have to just get a new one.

EDIT: did I mention that one would not know how much a little black dot could be annoying?

It can't be fixed. Just be thankful that it died completely.

My brother runs an LCD monitor with a bright blue dot about a third of the way across the screen. Now that's annoying.

dead pixels are made in the manufacturing process of the monitor. if you have a dead pixel that wasnt there before, then technically it's not a "dead" pixel, but a "stuck" pixel.

another reason you may see the pixel appearing to be dead, is the liquid chrystal has for some reason dissapeared in that area.

theres a technique to pressing on the area around to push the liquid back in.

my problem is lcd bruising, i was never aware of the damage caused by pressing too hard when cleaning the screen, until after i did it >.<

Gah, it's a dead pixel I think because it's black, so it doesn't work.

yeah, i have a green one on the lower left quarter of this screen... you usually don't see it unless the screen is black though...

most companies will only replace one dot if its within the centre of the screen and of course under warranty. if its not within the centre of the screen you need two more dead pixels to be visible to get a warranty. 3 dead anywhere, or one within the middle should be ok for a new one. hope you still have your warranty.

The other day a pixel in the center of my monitor turned red. That was annoying as HELL. I'd rather have a black pixel. Now it got unstuck, but I'm still going to exchange my monitor.

My brother got s 'stuck' pixel. He became a maniac trying to get rid of it! He thought it was a dead pixel. Its gone now and I hope it doesn't return.

I doubt it will, see he's had his computer for three years now. Only one upgrade but it looks like new! If he posted it on ebay he could pass it off as new!

i had a dead pixel before, had a funeral and everything for it. quite embarassing when it was discovered to only be sleeping. ^_^

it's fairly simple to fix LCD pixel issues with some LIGHT pressing of the screen, not like in the olden days with CRT monitors.. you got a dead pixel or worse burnt pixel on one of those bad boys and you'd be screwed for the lifetime of the device.

one of my brothers once left my monitor on for a week while I was on holiday once. while I don't mind the occassional porn on my screen, can't say it was great to have the same damn big breasted lass with her legs akimbo watermarking my entire PC experience.
no doubt why microsoft have introduced vista, to provide people with a nostalgic burnt image feeling from the CRT monitor era.

My cousin got rather angry once and punched his LCD screen. He used to do it occasionally with his CRT when he was fragged (slightly short temper), but he forgot about his shiny new LCD screen. Had to buy a new screen, couldn't seem to convince anyone that his screen came with a large region of dead pixels in the shape of a fist

Sometimes running a colour flash program, like simply clearing the screen with a random colour will unstick it - my old TFT had a couple, and running the light show over night fixed it. Last year we had an influx of little black beasties, infuriating as they're so small they actually climb into your monitor, and get between the glass, so you can't squish them, they're like little dead pixels but move about the place .

Talking of burn in, I was looking at an old PC at work yesterday and noticed the monitor has real bad burn-in, but strangely it's burned in with my front end application, it's quite weird seeing your own work burned into a monitor, makes me feel damn old .

That made me smile too. Although I don't have any personal experience of it. It just made me feel good for some reason. Now I can sleep peacefully.

I "bruised" my LCD Monitor when cleaning it, it has to be along the size of at least 8 inches long and goes across the right side diagonally (if that makes sense). Yah, I can only see it when there is black there though.

i've got a glass fronted lcd so i can clean it without worrying about damaging the screen, annoyingly though, somehow a small black bit of dirt has got between the screen and the glass, i don't really see how this is possible and it's not a dead pixed because it's the wrong shape and i can see the pixels under/around it all work fine, it's a bit like van's bug problem, except the bug's died or whatevery it is.
