Greetings, I am in dire (DIRE!!!) need of a computer game to play, any recommendations?

I hate FPS, love plat formers like Ratchet and Clank, ZOE and Mario, I’m not a fan of RTS though I might not say no but it depends, I don’t like games like Civ at all though which is funny as I’ve played 1-3 and Alpha Centuri...also I’m a grate fan of RPG's like Final Fantasy (Cant wait for 12!) and sideward’s fighters like Soul Cali and Tekken.

I have a PS2, DS, an Uber spec PC and a PSP but no 360 (Yet... >< ) nor Wii cus firstly I want a 360 first and secondly because if I could afford a 360 then I would be able to afford a Wii (oh that stupid name for a console).

Baldurs Gate I and II, and then Neverwinter Nights (all PC).

That should keep you amused for a few weeks, and should be very cheap to pick up these days. For storyline and character interaction in a non-FPS environment, it's definitely up there.

Should run on your uber PC without even blinking an electronic eye.

Uber laptop lady.

XPS Series M1710

And I have played and completed BG1+2 and its expansions and NWN. Also I don’t like the D20 system anymore after that, WoW and reading the entire D20 documentation AND the DnD books.

Next...

Oblivion would keep you entertained for weeks if you can stomach the first person camera, there's also the new Yoshi's Island for the DS, I really like the first one .

FF3 for DS should be out by now too, the FF games annoy the teeth out of me, what with battling goblins every 3 steps, but that might be your bag .

A surprise title on DS is Eregon as well, from the movie, but as a handheld RPG game it's very accomplished, slashing and firing bows and the obligatory stylus spell casting - it's like Deep Labyrinth, but good.

I thought Oblivion has a 3RD person camera?

I don’t really like the old FF's. The FF series itself is like a watered down version of real RPG's. The new ones are only enjoyable because they are like interactive novels, have refined forms of gameplay on occation due to how limited they are and, of course, i love the graphics.

I hate the way Eregon portrays Dragons so I’ve been avoiding it on principle and the fact that its a "Movie" game which might as well have a sticker on saying "I suck!" most of the time. Eregon that good then?

Also I’m into games like SSX and some(!) driving games like NFS, haven’t played Carbon yet but I’ve kind of had my fill of that after Most Wanted for the PC.

Might & Magic: Dark Messiah.

Absolutely loved this game and it's multiple endings.

Burnout 3? I loved the crashing and takedowns in that, though I wasn't anywhere nearly as keen on the sequel, Burnout Revenge.

And I'm not impressed by PC stats

Was I trying to impress you then? I thought I was stating what spec my PC was in general, as in high, and then showing you what I model because you sounded like you were mocking me. Do apoligise.

I’ve just checked out tactics and it looks pretty interesting but a bit old.

I would recommend Kiss My Asp! or perhaps The Alchemists Apprentice. They are both fabulous, both written by a fantastic programmer, both completely FREE and best of all they are both written in DBP and come supplied with source code.

Enjoy

I would recommend Live For Speed. I dont think you'd actually like it, because it doesnt sound like you're really a sim fan from your list of likes and dislikes/hates, and its pretty much exclusively multiplayer. However, I thought I'd mention it anyway just incase sinse its the best driving game there is, IMO. It does come with a health warning though, because it's more intense than say ... being disembowled, and generally if you play games to relax and have fun, it wont be for you. You normally come off with a heart condition and a few pints of sweat lighter.

have you tried this bubble bobble remake? http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/?gf=retro_view&i=61
(i didn't make it, but it's a great DB game, and it's a platformer which i believe you mentioned you like.)

also you might like Kotor I or II if you haven't already.

Wasteland (old school RPG but still one of the best ever), Heroes of Might and Magic 3 or 4 (have not played 5 yet), Pharoah (KInd of an RTS but focused more on the economy), Anno 1503.

No offence but Ratchet and Clank is a platformer, bubble bobble is rubbish, remake or not.

Platform of wasteland and perspective if possible (3rd person, FPS?) and what are the other games like pray tell?

Also Pharoah was spelt wrong.

Wasteland is DOS, was one of the first semi isometric games, overhead view.

Heroes 3 and 4 put you in command of a hero bent on conquring the land. Turn based game where you collect monsters to do battle, build up your towns and castles and capture mines for resources.

Pharoah is based in ancient eqypt, an economy game though there are occasional battles. Your mission is to advance in power in the egyptian hierarchy by building monuments, supplying Pharoah with goods he requests, Building thriving cities, and establishing productive trade caravans.

1503 is the pinnacle of micro management games, about 140 resources to manage, shipping routes to establish, disasters to prevent, enemy cities to pummel under cannon fire. Great game all around.

Get Neverwinter Nights (currently Playing, as I never really started off with it) and then Neverwinter Nights 2, amazing RPGs, as for Baulders Gate, I've got that for game cube, it has better graphics that NVWN (Well the first one) but I didn't think it matched up to it in any way which was disappointing.

American McGee's Alice, its a platform game for PC, based on the quake engine, the graphics are out of date, but its a good game if you go for horror/platform games, you basically play as Alice returning to wonderland, but the world has turned upside down and everything is cruel and bloody, armed with a kitchen knife you go around to find out what the hell happened.

If you don't mind retro, grab James Pond: Robo Cod, I loved that game as a kid, and it has made a come back on PS2, absolutely a legendary game.

Broken Sword 1,2,3 and 4
All brilliant mystery games, I think the first one is the best. (PC)

Monkey Island 1,2,3 and 4
1&2 are DOS
3 is PC, I don't know about XP
4 Should run on XP.
Some of the best games of all time, playing as wannabe pirate Guybrush threepwood, game play is similar to Broken Sword.

As for most recent games, well I'm behind on those except a few decent FPS, RTS and Racing games, but I've read your posts and if I were to say Doom 3, I'd know to watch my back

NWN2 does interest me, I won’t lie. It’s a good contender right now, particularly if someone’s done a pirate mod for it; I’m itching for some pirate action since I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 1+2.

Saw a review for Alice when it was first out, does look pretty rocking but more up to date would be nice.

Completed JP: Robocod on the Megadrive without a memory card. Its sequel was leagues better, cant remember the name now but it had something to do with cheese, moon cheese if I remember right...*checks Wiki*...Operation Starfish, hardest game I’ve ever played in my life, without a memory card and I completed it, s***.

I got Broken Sword the sleeping dragon the other day for 3 quid, it’s a bit dull, and hence why I want another game.

Monkey island, oh memories. Braking the forth wall has never been done so well, funny with pirates too. Might get that then or NWN2, ill add it to the list, cheers.

Indeed on the last sentence.

You would think that wouldn’t you but my cerebellum disagrees to a point. I love FF7 and that’s ancient by today’s standards, best game ever with the exception of maybe something I can’t think of right now but I wouldn’t play a DOS game for pay.

I agree, I stopped playing in the computer geeks apartment, where you first play as Nico, its a good series of games, I probably would have played it more, but at the moment I only play console games if they keep me wanting to play them for some reason.

I never played the sequel to Robocod, but I have heard of it, sorry I can't remember the name either.

As for Monkey Island, with the forth, I forgot to mention, that I lost some of its elements, in my opinion, but its seems they done once games like that go 3D, but never the less, a good quality game.

Indeed, I got stuck there on the PS2 and gave up, hmmm.

You must and don’t save, your not a games player in my book until you’ve done a game like that i tell you. And it’s Operation Starfish, I wikied.

Do you mean it’s lost some of its elements? If so i thought it was good when I got it for the PS2 on rent before it crashed and they didn’t have another copy. Seriously considering it now I think about it.

Played Jack and Daxter and that’s like the basturd sibling of Ratchet and Clank while also being the child of parents who were cousins, siblings and parent and child simultaneously.

What I’m getting at is that it’s not as good and I didn’t enjoy it very much.

Jack II and Jack III are more like Ratchet and Clank than Jak and Daxter, they are a lot better IMO. I recommend you rent one (or just buy, they're probably not more than $20 each now) and see for yourself. It can't be that bad if it was made by or in cooperation with Ratchet and Clank producers (there's even a picture of Jak and Daxter on Ratchets TV set ).

Technically they are all wrong, egyptologists added the vowels as they were absent. Like Ra translates more accurately to R9, but then it would sound like we were talking about Star Wars I suppose

Ok maybe i should make myself perfectly clear. I’ve played all the Jak and Daxter games from the first one which is an introduction game to the series to the second where he turns into Dark Jak and the third where the Angel wings are some of the best I’ve ever seen and that Dark Bomb attack rules. It’s just not nearly as good as Ratchet and Clank is all.

Now that I think about it, it had too many guns and I kept using the same one over and over. Some of the areas were also ridiculous. I remember spending two hours trying to jump onto some kind of grind rail or platform or something and due to the control system and environment layout kept missing it and falling to my doom and then spending ten minuets at a time getting back to where I was. Blood annoying that.

Well word corrected and i wasnt trying to be mean so i thought i would say cus all my posts at least go though word before i hit post message.

How about Lego Star Wars?

It's got some platforming in it, and has some awesome humour moments and multiplayer, as well as a heck of a lot of un-lockables. One of my favorites, and my tastes seem to run pretty close to yours...

Hey Siolis, how about a "thanks" for all these nice people who are helping you out with no return, taking time away from what they do to give you some suggestions, even if you don't like them?

That said, if you like RPGs, NWN is the way to go.

even though it's an fps, i must recomend it. it is so much more than just another fps, it has very suspensful stealth scenes, and some cool mini-quests in the beginning while you are in the prison. If you look down, you actually see your legs, in the shaows you can see the moving arms and stuff while he's reloading, and it asctually changes depending on the gun you have out. beutiful graphics, great gameplay, INTENSE realism, i fully recomend, "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay"

http://www.riddickgame.com/us/

take a look at the video and download the demo.

I also reccomend "Dead to Rights" for the PC, it's a Third Person Shooter, but it is tremendous.

both of these games would definatley not be games to play with "junior" hanging around watching over your shoulder though.

Go with DDO, current, looks real pretty when you got it cranked up and it is an MMO without ninjas, pwners, or loot farmers. A solid, party based, community happy to help one another (if you are looking for secondary market there isn't one, people give stuff freely to one another if it will help party members). Plus free new content all the time without having to buy upgrades.
