That's sort of what happens when I try to play at my school. We have blocks and it simply doesn't show up. No error message or anything. Parhaps wherever you're doing it, theres some blocks on the network?

Find out what ports it uses, and goto your software/hardware firewall and make sure those ranges aren't blocked.
