Anyone else seen the movie? I just saw it and have to say I was pretty disappointed, it felt like it only told about 1/6 of the story, and was incredibly rushed. Anyone who's read the books will probably agree. The number of differences is countless and ridiculous. And it was only about 1 hour and 45 minutes, leaving them still another hour and 15 or so if they were to compare to Lord of the Rings. The whole thing felt like it was way to rushed and filmed around one location. Either the director didn't know what he was doing, or the movie was way underbudget for such a big production. What do you think?

my gf made me watch this, i was like problem a) it's too generic, you have the old dragon hero story line where they used to rule but got destroyed now the hero will make them rule again. The kid whose family was killed by a bunch of monsters, and now he hates them. and problem b) They killed JEREMY IRONS!! the only time in a movie when Jeremy Irons is allowed to die is if he plays the bad guy. "Simple simon said to the pie-man, bake me a pie, or I'll cave your head in." best line ever.

eragon = lame.

Wiggett you missed quoted Jeremy Irons

"Said simple simon to the pie man going to the fair. Where are your pies? Or I cave your head in"

Is the correct quotation

I have not yet been impressed by the advertisements of Eragon for reasons that have already been stated above

I've not seen it, but I read that it made young children cry with frustration at the liberties they had taken with the books. It's getting things like 11% reviews etc. I will avoid.

The trailer is what put me off, I do not want to see it either, with other movies to watch out there, its only fair that I don't. As for the book, I'll know I'll get eaten, but I've never even heard of it, but then I don't usually read the genre, Harry Potter being the only one.

Trailer put me off too. Mostly, I wonder why a warrior that flies on dragons and fights bad guys has hair that looks like it was set by Reese Witherspoon's stylist

Aragorn is the king heir in Lotr.

It looks like Eragon. The movie is terrible for eragon, book is amazing though.

Pretty lazy title isn't it? Just a typo ... miss the D, hit the E, when typing Dragon.

The book is fairly good, but the sequel was far better. You can tell the author has aged a few years as he's written them. The one thing I didn't like about the second book was that each time it switched characters, I got really annoyed because I was so involved with the story I was just reading. The problem with the first book is that the first few chapters aren't half as well written as the rest... I take it that that's because he started writing it when he was 15...

I saw a pic of Sapphira (the blue dragon) when the movie was announced, and decided not to see it. One of the really cool things about the books was the explanations and the larger ideas presented, neither of which could be translated into a movie worth watching.

Of course, this series is no LOTR or Earthsea. Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the His Dark Materials books are much better also. What's impressive here is the age of the writer, and the depth of the explanations of how things work, even if the history of the world is a bit sparce.

Seems like a lot of bad reviews for a movie that is depicting a farily good novel. I hope I see differently when I see the movie later this month. And despite what anyone says the harry potter books beat the Inheritance Trilogy (Eragon, Eldest, ????). The new title was also released for the next Harry Potter book: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Regards,
Thomas

Can't comment there but that should not be a hard feat. While the Potter books are decent stories the writing is awful. I read the first three hoping she would develop and the writing would get better, but it just never did. I think the movies are far superior to the books and that is not all to common.

Yah, I never quite understood the Harry Potter phenomenon either. I mean, it's a *fairy tale*, in a *fantasy* setting, based on some *kids*. To me that is up there with the most boring concepts popularized--- hell, I even see adults reading the books on the SkyTrain sometimes and just shake my head in disgust.

As I said the stories are ok, but the writing is awful, on par with a 7th grade english paper. Try reading Edgar Rice Burroughs, Milton, or Robert E Howard then compare. Granted those books are written to appeal to 3rd-6th graders and anything that gets kids to read is great, but literary masterpieces they are not.

Nope. Never enjoyed anything in the fantasy genre--- ever. Harry Potter would not be any different.

EDIT:

Especially when there's magic, which is just a cheap way for the author to have the character's get out of a hairy situation.

I liked the drizzt books but they were a tad redundant. Robert Jordan is not bad but he's scamming people in the Wheel of Time by telling the same stories over again, lately you start reading one and it's like "haven't I read this before?"

Stackpole's Jade Falcon series was really good if you like sci-fi.

Ya he has taken some stuff from other authors if thats what you mean. But I like his series in all, although its freaking long! There's like 12 books in the series and he's still writing more. I've read all the current books there are. Arrrg.

Eragon is better than that Potter fool any day. I bet if there was a showdown between them, Harry would try and run in fear of the great blue dragon breathing down his neck.

ACtually what I mean is he is copying himself, I believe it was shadow rising and path of daggers that were the same damn story, just altered a little bit. Don't quote me on that It has been awhile, but I remember two of his books were near identicle.
