I was casually browsing Gamespot today and noticed a press release saying that Sega had acquired all of the rights to make games from the Alien/s film series - kick ass - and that it was making an FPS and an RTS style game. The FPS was given to Gearbox Software, and the RTS to Obsidian.

As a huge Alien/s fan I personally can't wait - even though they say nothing will be released until at least 2009 (meep)

Ooooh! I love the movies too and had an old 8bit version of the Aliens game. It was very hard but each level was interspliced with chunks of the film script while you waited for it to load. Great idea.
This new license could be something really, really good. My only worry is that there have been so many games since the movies came out with the same sort of story lines (especially the space marines vs aliens in dingy bases on far away planets) that this would have to be something very special to stand out. I wait with anticipation...

Aliens deserves a FPS that does it proud, my fave movie of all time . AvP was ok, but really a squad based FPS with just Aliens, and a queen at the end would be great. I suppose you could argue that the whole sci-fi FPS genre was inspired by the movies, anyone remember that incredibly difficult Spectrum game?.

The Rebellion games were very good imho, but a true movie license would be wonderful - imagine all those cool sequences they could do! Dropship flying, power loader fights, jeep driving - and not to mention the bug hunt itself. A genuine game of the film could be superb

Just give me my M41A ...

Alien/s and Predator(!=2) are legendary Sci-Fi. In fact, thinking about it now, it makes me sad that Sci-Fi hasn't come close to being that good in so long.

I think AvP is a highly under rated FPS. It caught the atmosphere really well and the motion sensor for the marine was quality. The first truly scarey FPS in my opinion. Bleep bleep - bleep bleep - bleep bleep - then the scream of the alien and it running along the ceiling. WAghhgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

And don't forget, you got 3 games in 1! Playing the Alien is still the most unique FPS action experience I've played. I really got the hang of skuttling up walls and hanging on the ceiling, waiting for marines to walk underneath then dropping down and chopping them up. Ultimate sneekage and quality 180 degree panoramic FoV. You really felt like the Alien.

And the predator ... the whole arsenal! Invisibility on tap, shoulder mounted auto aiming canon. Still a challenge, but you felt well hard! Just auto aiming on people and blowing them away, and switching your vision mode to infra-red to see heat sources etc.

Anyways! A great old game, and I look forward to these new games hopefully being as innovative. I have a fear they wont be, but just maybe they'll do it justice.

Obsidian is actually developing an RPG not an RTS of the series. I personally think that it will suck. Can't stand KOTOR II or NWN II. Although I like GearBox and am confident that the FPS will be very good.
