As some of you will already know from the thread on the WIP board, I've returned to my old DBC IDE project and was wondering what IDE you were all using at the moment.

Are you using the built-in IDE, Dark Edit or some other IDE which is maybe both DBP and DBC compatible?

As my IDE is close to being stable enough to be an alpha release, it would be useful to know if anyone would find it of use.

And what (if anything) you'd like to change about the IDE you use at the moment.

I have used the W.I.P. IDE, and I can say it definitely beats the hell of Dark Edit. No offense to Dark Edit or its creator, it is a very nice program, but I liked TDK's. I still use DBC, and I am switching to DB Pro today(hopefully) but I am definitely using DBC still. It holds some...sentimental value if one could put it that way, and I am programming a game in it.

@TDK_Man

I like the IDE, and I like the functions you have on your site. I think it would be neat if you had a small window where the functions are, and then whenever you click on one you can insert it into the code. I had that idea for an IDE once, and it was going to contain over 100 useful functions, but unfortunatly the project didn't work out the way I wanted it to and I scrapped it. I will eventually bring it back, but not any time soon.

If you like the idea of a pre-made function window, please use it, because it would really be nice to see something similar to what I wanted to do.

Good day,

The ability you talk about is already in the IDE.

If you've downloaded one of the versions that I've made available to download (above), you'll see there is a section on the General tab of the project panel called Installed Extra Commands.

The idea is that you will be able to drop DBA files containing a single 'command' function into the Commands folder and they will appear on the list and will automatically be included in your code when you compile.

There's also a Permanent Includes option where you can specify a number of #Include files which will be automatically included when compiling every project - without you having to manually add them each time.

G'day,

At the moment I'm using Dark Edit... I gotta check out TDK's IDE!

I hope all functions and sub routes will be group up, like seen in
QBasic.. it much much neater, The Dark Basic, all in same place made
it confusing and messy...

So where the file i can download, couldn't find it in WIP or your site

Cheers Anto

i'm using DarkEDIT.
one of the main problems i have when developing games in DBC is that the IDE doesn't want to keep a nice clean source for me to work in.

what i mean is that the only code that can be compiled externally is Functions. but it still have it's restrictions, for example i cannot add DIMs in a function, so it's pretty much useless.

my only workaround is trying to get as much as i can into functions, as DBC unlike DBPRO doesn't have any "global" or "local" variables it turns out fine. but it's still a mess for me.

I used to use CodeKeeper too, (which can add external .dba files by using the #MERGE command) but i didn't like how i had to manualy open the .dba file from inside the application instead of doubleclicking on the .dba file. so after a while i got back to darkEdit.

your IDE TDK looks very promising though and i am going to switch to yours as soon as i feel it's "safe".

TDK, I didn't notice that feature. Sorry. I havn't had much time to check out the IDE, but that is some nice work.
