When I woke up today and went down to open my presents with the family, I never once thought I would find a wii under some wrapping paper.

So when I came to the last present, I didnt know what the box was, untill I got the wrapping off and then came the big grin on my face.

My mum had told me that she couldnt get a wii in time for christmas and I believed her as I knew its been tough to get your hands on one. So it was a great surprize to find one

I dont think Ive been so surprized in all my life, well, not that I can recall

I opened up my last box that was in the back and found a black leather jacket!

i wasn't expecting that at all (i had mentioned it jokingly, i did want it but didn't expect it)

I've had some awesome prezzies. I expected nothing and couldn't really think of anything to ask for. This usually means I get very little. But behold, I got a top of the range DVD recorder with built in freeview and a top of the range Tom Tom sat nav ... shame my exhaust blew on my car a few days back, else I'd be trying it out tonight (well, maybe not seeing as I'm a bit pishhhed). I also asked for a hobby knife and ended up getting some hannibal lecter style scalpel set with about 20 different blades ... behold the gifts of awesomeness.

I will now resume my alcohol consumption and await my roast turkey.

It sounds like everyone here had a great Christmas, glad to hear it!

I actually don't celebrate it, but a few days ago I found out that I got a huge grant from the government for getting good grades in school. It was more of a present than I could ever ask for, since now I can pay my dad and brother back all the money I had to borrow to buy my car, I'm so very grateful!!

I'm taking advantage of the after-Christmas sales tomorrow. And I'll be Wii hunting starting tomorrow until I find one...

Sorry for being nosey, but could I ask why don't you celebrate it Xander? Religious conviction (i.e. you're not a Christian) or does it tie with some personal sad memory that turns you off? (I actually know a couple of people like that: a death in the family near Christmas made them not celebrate it from then on)

While I can't say I'm celebrating Christmas as much as previous years (the rest of my family is on a cruise, and I'm home watching the house and dog), I can easily say I don't mind.

After all, I made sure to invest in a nice steak dinner before my family left. It not bursting into flames in the oven is surprise enough.

Came out as a perfect medium rare, actually

Not only do I find that nosy, but personally I find it offensive. Contrary to belief, non Christians are just as entitled to celebrating Christmas as any christian is. I celebrated it when I was a christian, and I still celebrate it as an atheist. So if you don't mind, educate yourself on the holidays a bit more before assigning holidays to specific religious groups. Sorry If I seem upset, but its a time of year for all of us! Merry Christmas mate.

People, please find better things to do than get offended on a forum--- kinda lame don't you think?

It's a simple question, and it wasn't directed at you anyways.

If he doesn't want to answer the question, that's his choice, but if he wants to then all the power to him. Seems there's always some group getting offended by everything nowadays and I'm getting sick of it.

Calm down SageTech. I was very surprised to read you being offended by such a simple, honest and tactically worded question. On the religious front, I think Miguel was considering Xander might've been another religion that doesn't believe in Jesus, rather than not religious at all.

Anyways, AUP proximity alert!

Agreed. It was pretty right wing considering there was nothing wrong with the question at hand. It's almost as if he's getting offended just for the 'sake of it'.

Christmas just isn't that much fun when you get older. I found that out last year, and this year seemed to mirror it. I think the best thing I got was a 12 pack of beer, which might just last me the remainder of the week, if I'm lucky. Other than that, it was really just vouchers for the local Frankie and Benny's and Vue Cinema. Though, not complaining and not too disappointed - wasn't expecting anything spectacular.

Just had a thought. There is a family just down the road from us who spent £1.5m on a birthday party for their daughter last month- I wonder what SHE got for Christmas!

I got lots of cool things for presents (Morcambe and Wise DVD, The Two Ronnies DVDs, Willy Fogg DVDs, Mrs Beatons Guide to Household Management, boxes of Pocky, a programmable music box (PUNCHCARDS!!), a paper making kit and other cool stuff) and we had a lovely lunch where I managed not to eat too much, then we all played Wii Sports (all the way up to the bf's granny), watched Dr Who, played guitar and sang, and then tried desperately to find a picture of one of those cheesy crying clown with puppy paintings that blighted the style of a whole decade. You must know the one - a cookiee to anyone who can find a picture of those paintings!

All in all, a lovely day indeed. But my favourite bit was seeing my bfs face when he was opening his presents. Put a big grin on my face, that did. Oh, and as for getting older - mid twenties here and still enjoying Christmas. Old as you feel.

Someone should cut down on the eggnog somewhat

I honestly didn't mean to offend anyone, or indeed to preclude anyone from celebrating/not celebrating Christmas if they are/aren't christians. Any of the four combinations is valid.

You may be a christian and choose not to celebrate Christmas (e.g. because of something bad you associate with the date/season). Likewise (as a christian myself) I won't get offended if you're a Muslim, Indu, Atheist etc and choose to celebrate because it's a good excuse for a family get together.

Quote: "On the religious front, I think Miguel was considering Xander might've been another religion that doesn't believe in Jesus, rather than not religious at all. "

Indeed. I did try to word it with special care not to offend people who may be devout to other faiths, rather than to people who don't believe at all (who, by definition, are entitled to celebrate whatever they see fit solely by the merriment they may draw from the festivities).

Anyway, Season Greetings to all.

I like giving more instead of getting! So I bought the family a Sony Home Theater system (We needed a new DVD player so I got the 5.1 aswell!). I also bought my parents a HP C5180 colour printer, they really wanted a one so I got it!

I had a brilliant day! We have things that are so tradional that every year is great!
I hope everyone had a great day!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, but mostly because when I don't get something for someone, and they get me something, I feel real bad

My parents can't seem to let go of the Christmas thing, though.
I mean, it's fun, and sorta tradition, but when I say "I want xx for Christmas, and nothing else (because I know you can't afford it)", then I actually mean it... Yet, every year, there's way too much stuff (mostly little bits and pieces, but none-the-less) under the tree, and I always feel bad for not getting them more...

Oh well, it's all in the spirit of it, and you don't have to be religious to enjoy free stuff

My mum had no clue what to get me, because I didn't seem like I wanted anything, so she asked me what I wanted, and I couldn't think of anything. We went into a guitar shop and she heard me playing a really nice jazz guitar, and offered to buy it, but since I already have 7 crammed into a small room which I share with my brother, it wouldn't be a good idea I also didn't have much time for it anyway, since I still have alot to learn about electric, + my exams to pass.

So I got a micro battery powered amp, which I can take into school and stuff, and I got about 20 DVDs, Hostel being the freakiest

I find that extremely offensive, I'm going to go crying to the thought police, that'll show you!

As for biggy presents, well we tend not to give and get them (although there was the PS2 a few years back), that would make the meaning of our Christmas too materialistic, we give each other enough to appreciate it and to be generous like St Nicolas and Jesus (remembering who we are celebrating, although I am a Buddhist and not a Christian, I use Christmas to celebrate the great people in the world, who have lived and died giving and being selfless) Which brings ourselves closer together and enjoy Christmas together.

I didn't receive any big ones, but my uncle did, but essentially it was mostly for his 50th birthday. It was a book completely made by my Mum, she illustrated, wrote it, grabbed all of the research needed and then physically made the book after printing off all the pages. The book was on our family history full of family trees, photographs of people with information by them and he was shocked by it and really loved it, so much he said it was the best present he has ever received.

a-fence-ive? naww...

I got my new Wacom tablet . Intuos3 9x12.

found this random pic, but its the same one . Feels good to draw with my arm again, this 4x5 was making me horrible.

I didn't think I was getting it because they are very expensive, but I'm the offspring of some VERY good bargain finders.

If anyone wants any art or something interesting gimme a buzz .

sorry, I didn't mean to start anything, I guess I just shouldn't have said anything at all. And I'm not going to say anything else because I don't want this innocent thread to be locked.

But yesterday I took full advantage of the after-Christmas sales. I was poor all semester, so I haven't had anything new in a long time. So yesterday I bought some new clothes, two new pairs of shoes (which I really needed, my only pair of shoes is falling apart and my feet get wet), a digital camera, a cell phone (my first one, a Motorola L6 Blade), and a Wii component cable. I don't have a Wii yet, but my friends at school do. So I have the cable for when I do get one anyway. I can't wait to try it out on my projector...480p Wii action, yippee!

mmm. Lets see, I got Zelda! Yay. It´s great. Ok really I got a piece of paper saying that they´ve ordered Zelda but after 2 phone calls to the shop they sent it and it got today at one o´clock. I´ve somehow managed to clock up 9 hours of play so far. I´ve never done that before. Not with metal gear solid or even Okami. Everyone liked the presents I got them. Which was good. Took me hours to wrap them up in funny shapes. My flat mate had lots of fun making labels in ever more intricate shapes though. My bro has now got enough money to buy a Wii. Yay. Should be fun. The games for it are expansive at the moment though. He´ll probably wait until Sonic Wildfire comes out.
Quote: "I got my new Wacom tablet "

Funnily enough that tablet in the pic is the exact same model as my brothers. It´s nice though not as good build quality as I was expecting. Be gentle. The pen costs a fortune to replace.

New ones are usually $50. Be thankful though, because PS3 and Xbox 360 games are usually $60 when they come out. I know what you mean though, I won't be buying a lot of games right away. I'll just share with my friends.

Lucky. The cheapest I can find them here is around $70. That´s routhly the price of a 360 game. Some are dearer some are cheaper. They´ve got to drop in time when there´s a decent amount of users.

That's my main problem with consoles. On average games cost twice as much as PC games.

I don't think console games cost any more than PC games initially, but PC games tend to drop in price much faster than console games. That's what I've seen, might not be true everywhere though.
