Quote: "Thing is, as gorgeous as the graphics are in GoW, the actual game lasts maybe 3 hours from beginning to end, not exactly in depth, or worth £50."
I'd say blitzing through the game it still takes about an hour per act (cept the final one)... in total you're looking at 4-5hrs but yeah this is still short for £50.
This said while I've only taken a small amount of time going through the game once, in single player. Lots more hours have been spent playing it in co-op, getting COG tags, etc. I've got almost all of the achiements now, and while my lass is bored of the game in long bursts. I still have alot of fun replaying the story over and over again.
Online gameplay just expands this, because it is just as fun as Halo, Counter-Strike or such.

For many games, I'd agree. I tend to download the trials and for some games that's enough. Some of the classic games though (like Street Fighter 2 Hyper Force) are worth purchasing, especially given they only cost a few quid... unlike RoboBlitz which is an entire Microsoft Points card (£15).
As far as the Wii goes, I have a feeling that it'll have a different development segment to the GameCube.
It's obvious that some games on the NGC were very well developed and it was obvious the development team were trying their best to get the game to be great on the console.
FF:CC, RE4, and MGS:TS for example were very good graphically. I believe that the next generation versions on the Wii will also prove to be quite gorgeous, despite it being quite a fair bit less capable than the competition.
Other games that are ported however, only time will tell if the effort will eventually be put in. Right now, it's appearing to be an after thought console to games like the NGC was. They need the support of the developers to keep the popularity alive now.
