Its been about 4 years since Ive been on the market for a new PC, and besides the on and off problems with my current one, its done an ok job given its age. But with the new technology on the market, and directx 10 coming into the picture, I think that its time I think about upgrading.

First, Ill have to sell my current PC. Now, It may be old, but it was built for gaming when I got it, so it isn't a piece of junk. It has a Pentium 4, 2.8 ghz processor, 512 gb of ram and an 80 gig hardrive, and the Ge-force 6600 I got free when my older graphics card crapped out. So, how much could I get for the thing if I were to sell it on ebay?

Next, I have to consider what new computer I can get. I'm definitely wanting a Dell, because my experience with them has been great, and their prices are pretty good. The computer will be used only for the purpose of developing, and of course, it needs to be vista ready. So, any suggestions for a nice, fast, gaming computer that's also economically feasible? Thakns in advance,

Jase

About your old computer, besides the RAM what you've got there is pretty good for 4 years old, and I know many people who think highly of a geforce 6600....it's still considered a nice graphics card.

For your new computer, I'd go with a processor like the one you have, but get some more memory. Most modern games have been moving up higher and higher in memory requirements. If you want fast gaming (serious gaming), then the geforce 8800 is the way to go, but I personally would not pay over $600 for one of those, plus they require a lot of power. I think with a card like my geforce 7950GT, for under $250, you can get a very good gaming experience and still keep a good deal of cash.

You can't beat newegg: www.newegg.com

Good luck, you'll find EVERYTHING you need there.

Wow, you're complaining about a system of that spec, I'd just clean it up mate if you're have problems and optimise the performance as much as you can until you get a new comp, you probably won't get a huge deal for it, £200/300 perhaps

It's post like this that make you feel that your computer is junk, I mean I have P4 1.5ghz, 256mb ram and an ATI Radeon 9550 running at AGP 4x. And the strange things is I just about manage, although it is a huge pain for any work that needs ram, but Doom 3, Prey and Call of Duty 2 all run at a playable speed. Well I suppose my computer is junk now, I best get with the times myself.

I doubt I could run oblivion because of my RAM, but Doom 3 and Prey runs okay at low, 20 fps is the norm with slow down and lagging and long load time, similar with COD 2, but that gets a speed up soon after the level has loaded (And I can run it with high quality textures and normal maps) But FEAR won't run at all for me as such, the slow downs are so bad, I can barely survive, even at the lowest detail you can get.
