Is there anyway to make a custom desktop resolution. My monitors default is 1280x800(widescreen). But for some, more demanding, games, that is too high of a resolution for me to be able to get a good frame rate. So I need to be able to go to a lower one, like around 800x600, but I would like to still be in widescreen. Which is why I want to create a 960x600, resolution.

It is supported by my monitor and video card, because I've been able to get other games to work at 960x600 and it works fine. However, Half-Life 2 wont allow this. Half-Life 2 allows you to set a resolution using "-width 960 -height 600" in the launch options, but it has this feature that will automatically set your resolution to 640x480, if it doesn't show up in the menu of selectable resolutions. Which is why I need to be able to somehow define 960x600 as a resolution available on my computer so that I can select it in certain games.

NOTE: I can't use powerStrip because my trial period has expired.

Yes, it's certainly possible on my Nvidia card, i've made some rather strange resolutions. If you have ATI or an older generation of Nvidia then i can't really say how you do it or if it works at all, as i'm no expert on this subject.

I found the place to make own resolutions at; "Display properties"->"Settings"->"Advanced"->(Name of graphics card)->the "Screen resolutions & Refres" tab->"Add", then type in strange resolutions.

btw, it may also depend on your graphics driver. Download the latest for you card and check again in settings for any possible new buttons that may accomplish this.

You drivers should have a control centre, and on that you can set your computer to what every resolution your graphics card can do, I mean mine goes up to that 1900 resolution, but my monitor is lower, so it looked funky trying that one As for an actual custom one, I don't know.

I have a "Radeon IGP 345M", on the laptop that I'm trying to make this resolution. So Grandma's suggestion is probably only for your NVidia card, I don't have that option. and I have the Catalyst Control Center, but it won't allow me to select 960x600.

I think I need some program, like PowerStrip, that can create these custom resolution profiles.
