Wow, been a while since I browsed these forums...

Anyway, I was looking at different web hosting companies and such, and I found one particular company that offers a plan that appeals to me greatly. This is all great and wonderful, but, as I read down the page, I see a footnote saying, quote: "Note: Our Expert Plan is only available for Linux."
Now, from what I can gather, that means that the server runs on Linux, no?

What I would like to know is: can I still use the same old HTML, PHP, and other website related code that I would with my Windows-based environment?

If anyone could help me out here, and possibly explain the difference between the types of servers, and the effects it has upon a user like me etc, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yes, just (If I remember correctly) remember that in Linux, file names are Case sensitive. So, Index.php isn't the same as index.php .

Basically, the difference is the way that the OS is programmed, and what kind of parsers they have for PHP (scripts) and they way the servers handle requests.

Windows uses Windows, Linux uses Linux (Obviously) etc

The only advantage MIGHT be security for example a Customized version of Linux might be more secure than using Windows.
Again, just blabbing about what I'm sure of the facts (not absolutely correct). So, you might want to wait for some one who knows what they're talking about to show up.

There are a few select commands in PHP which are OS specific and, sometimes, the use of the core ones are OS Specific too (especially file system... Linus uses /var/www/html style paths where as windows would be c:\www\)
