Hey,
Has anyone played the game, Company of Heroes for PC? I got it for Christmas and I have to say it's the best strategy game I've ever played and one of the best overall games I've ever played. It's one of the few games where I'm thinking "what idiots, why did they do that?" or "they could have done that so much better" most of the time I'm playing. In my opinion nearly everything is flawless. It's amazing graphically, strategically, realism-wise. I have 3 complaints: 1) Very long load times (around 10 minutes to load a campaign/skirmish on my decent PC, but without-a-doubt worth every bit of it, just go watch TV for ten minutes or something
), 2) No map editor, but it's apparant that they made the levels with some sort of editor, it would have been great if they included it. 3) Skirmishes are too hard. Even on the easiest level, I've tried and been killed 7 times
.
Aside from those three shortcomings (if they could be called that), everything else is awesome. It fixes many of the things I hate from other strategy games, while adding more than I could have wanted. For example, it always annoyed me that a group of soldiers could take down a tank in many RTS's...since when can some machine guns destroy armor? In CoH you can't destroy tanks with infantry, but countless other options that are realistic are available, like sticky bombs, mines, anti-tank guns, other tanks, etc. That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about. It's the most strategic game I've ever played, you really have to use strategy and think to win, from flanking to grenades to pinning the enemy down while you wipe them out with machine gunners, it's awesome.
Oh, and one other thing I forgot to mention that I've never even thought of that other RTS's fail to include is cover. Cover is a main part of a war! If you stick 20 men in a field and 5 behind a wall, who should win? Without using cover in CoH (don't worry it's everywhere and always changing
) (as in real war) it's nearly impossible to win.
One last amazing thing about this game is it's completely destructable and physics-driven environment, everything is destructable and interactive. You shoot a tank round into a building and it makes a hole where you shot it, you blow up a tank, you can use it for great cover, you can run down walls with tanks, blast holes through walls to flank an enemy (which I've done), practically anything.
Okay, anyways, enough with me talking about how great of a game it is, hope noone gets annoyed
, I originally planned to just ask other's opinions of it, but then as I wrote I couldn't help but write all the awesome things about it
. So this is an great game even if your not that into RTS's (it focuses mostly on strategy and very little on base building anyways), or WWII, I definetely recommend it, I doubt you'll be disappointed (once you get past the first loading time
). Anyone else played the game? What do you think?
