I'm trying to change it to Mansoor S, my real name, but it says that now I can only set it once I create my profile? Then how did I change it from GreenFox to Xenocythe?

I think that they decided not to let people change to keep people from using too many names. You may be able to email or ask a mod about it though, don't know if even they have the authority to change it.

Thats correct, name changing has been locked, there were a few people who thought it was ok to have swearing words etc, in the name or distasteful names etc..

Its easier for everyone as well to know who is who, if you kept changing your name, it would be harder to evaluate who you were and people might not recognize you.

The master of name changes is totally up to Rich

@indi - The bottom of my sig tells people that I'm Xeno

Yeah I guess I'll e-mail Rich... aww this is gonna take a while.

Wait, instead of banning the choice of changing a forum name, why not filter it? You only have about 5 curse words to filter
But I bet its alot harder than it seems.

Ah well, I'l just e-mail Rich.

And the 1000's of combinations of curse words with characters or 1337 spellings. And there's more than just curse words, there are plenty of inappropriate words out there.

Oh really wow. I was thinking of changing it too but whatever my names okay . LD52 . Thats true that by changing your name you confuse people

EDIT: i know this is irrelevant but how come no one has images in there signature has this feature been turned off or has everyone just stop showing or is it something else?

And not to mention a certain former-mod who changed his name just about every other day...

I'm fine with just sticking to Zotoaster. It's what I'm known for here.

I don't really follow the sheep anyway, too many people are changing their forum names to their actual names, and I dont really wanna look like a copy-cat. Besides, my forum name is part name, part nickname - Zotos (my second name) + Toaster(Random word) = Zotoaster!

I really don't see the point in changing your name anyway. If you keep the same name, sig, and avatar then everyone will know who you are.

I removed the feature because it was being abused (by the minority, I agree) who would just randomly change it every few days to cause grief, or change it to sound like another forum member and then pretend to be them for a while, then change it back again, etc.

In short, it became a pain in a ass. I can override this if someone desperately needs to change their name, but on the whole what you set now, you keep.

Thank God. I'm glad that's not allowed anymore. Everytime somebody changed their name I thought they were new people. I don't see why people would want to change their name... I've been using "Grog Grueslayer" since 1997 and just "Grog" since 1980.

I was sorry to see that feature go, (as I was going to switch my alias to my actual name so it corresponded with my codeproject name), but I can see why it had to be done. I will probably just manage by having my name stuck in my signature for the forums.

Regards,
Thomas

I always just use "Gil Galvanti" for everything, it was my Star Wars Galaxies name, so I kept it and it's my "internet name"/alias, even when it doesn't really matter if I use my real name .

I use Antidote always just because there was this total moron named Venom on the Rotten Tomato forums. My friend and I sort of made it our mission to get him banned in a couple weeks. Thus I created and account under the name Antidote in a sort of literary "genius" way. Ever since then the name has stuck. Oh BTW he was banned in THREE days.

Darth Vader always! I'm glad the feature is gone! I hated it. I would always get confused!
