Hi....I'm Neo......and I'm back

Well i was into DB some years ago, when the forum was

www.realgametools.net

Must have been 5 years or so since this time....

Anyway, i'd like to know what has happened to the community?

I think i can remember realgametools.net going down....
And i think that an other Forum was relaunchend then, but i can't remember anymore, how the url was?

Is there anybody out there who can remember me?

Or at least anybody, who can tell me,what happendend in the last few years.....

Basically, when Real Game Tools shut down, another forum, as a replacement for the old one, Long Live Real Game Tools, was opened.

Eventually that closed down, and was replaced by Munkeynuts. But even then, soon that was closed down as well.

Pretty much what's left of the RGT community that hasn't migrated anywhere else can currently be found at http://www.codersturf.com.

Other than what's been going on, the same old DBP Updates (or lack thereof), the DGDK and it's .NET Variants (and their updates...or lack thereof), FPS Creator, and currently the TGC Team is working on a DirectX 10 version of both FPSC and DBPro.

Other than that, and Lee was determined to be Jesus, same old really. Check around the forum, because I'm sure I've missed a lot.

RGT? Wow, that was a long time ago. Back then (iirc) I just gave DBC a look and chose to use Euphoria instead. Can't remember what the community was like when I actually started using DBC.
You know what they say about the memory span of a fish, right?

yeah those were the good old times......

Does anyone remember the reason why the community had to close down?

I've just done some research......the domain is currently not used (just parked),and it would cost about 200$ to buy it.....

A little bit to munch for me....unfortunatly.....

oh... well, "timesoft"'s (a user known under multiple other aliases, which i won't bother you with) team request happened...

unfortunately that board doesn't exist anymore so you missed the great comedy available

(though you might be able to find it on some archive site, or maybe someone has it saved somewhere)

I'm still here if you remember me.

Did you know about LLRGT?

Danny Wartnaby hosted Long Live RGT for quite a while, and it was a great community with most of the old RGT people on it, but then that eventually closed down too.

welcome back to DB i guess!

Ian,
He probably wouldn't know you as Ian T.

Anyway, I am still here too. RGT was a good community. A lot of the people from there can be found here every once in a while.

Codersturf is still in development and hasn't actually been officially opened yet. Soon as Josh finishes the site then we'll start advertising as much as we can to build a new solid foundation of users.

As has been mentioned above, Coders Turf is the descendant of RGT, but we have not launched yet and we are focusing on more than just the community this time around.

If you don't think I'm serious about getting the CT Project under way as a decent game dev portal, then understand that I just purchased a state-of-the-art dedicated server which is being installed as we speak. I'm also in talks with various websites, I've already acquired two and I'm hosting the TGC web-ring project.

If you want a decent all-round game dev community and portal just like RGT and LLRGT was once going to be, support CT and support me. It's that simple.

hi,
of course i'll do anything to support your community!

but why do you want a dedicated Server??!

A coders-community doesn't need that munch traffic/space etc...

Oh,and btw why was llrgt closed down?

i can't remember.....

LLRGT closed because the guy who ran it, Danny, had to go see to his "real life" as we all do eventually. Coders Turf is more than just a hobby for me though.

After LLRGT we moved to a website called MunkeyNuts, but again the people who were hosting it were just too busy to look after the community. So in Feb 2006 it was decided that all this community jumping had to end. I had been planning Coders Turf for some time and I quickly uploaded a forum to a temp server which we're still currently on, and a few people who wanted to see things through to completion came across to CT. Everybody else faded away and unless they came here we haven't really heard anything from them. Thats about it really.

And I need a dedicated server because I'm going to be hosting an entire network of websites and communities, and I do plan to have a lot of traffic. Plus I need to be able to run server processes so I can offer some of the more "fantastic" CT features to game devs.

What can you do to help?

I do want to mould the CT community into something similar to the uniquely friendly RGT. I've missed that place since the day it closed.

the trouble with rgt/llrgt/mn was when you had to keep going to a different url say every year. which meant old inactive users didnt re-register so by the time it got to munkeynuts the community was almost dead, so they expanded into other programming languages. which in a way did help but it didnt stop the demise of mn.

technically there's (for the sake of it) 3 spin off sites. codersturf/devhat and tdk's forum. each have their own perks but not to the user levels of the rgt/llrgt days. shame really, there was some really good users on rgt/llrgt

I think when this board started up a lot of the RGT community came here instead and it kinda split the RGT community in half. I loved rgt but at the time I decided to focus more on this board, probably because it was official and tied in closer to the developers. A lot users stuck with rgt but eventually it got very quiet especially llrgt from what I remember. I would check there the odd time but their was always much more activity on this board. It's hard to be an active member of two communities on the same topic. At least for me anyway.

To be honest, I think trying to re-form RGT is a futile attempt, as I bet lots of people have moved on. Apollo and Devhat are prime examples that with the right users, you can create a good community. When I look through the forum now most of the users weren't around 2 years ago, but yet there is still a sense of friendliness (mostly) and comradeship.
Just because the "old crew" isn't there doesn't mean it can't be as much or more fun.

anyway the new Forum seems to support other languages as well as db....

As i want to focus on c++ in next time, but i still want to chat with the "old crew",this seems to be perfect to me....

Amen.

I haven't seen DeadGlory in forever, btw, but I haven't used the forums in a long while myself, and it's been even longer since I've actively browsed general discussion (er, geek culture, sorry ).

Part of what killed the LLRGT community after the collapse of RGT was the slow transition from Dark Basic only to multiple languages. Eventually it become clear to the guys who were supporting LLRGT that just a DB forum out in cyberspace on its own cannot survive. The community wasn't getting any new members from the time RGT closed. Languages and people may come and go but indie game development will always be around.

@ Han:

The guy (Phaelax) who is acting as my web-designer for my web hosting company and Coders Turf is looking into a new theme and layout for CT as we speak. I don't want to make things 'just like RGT' though because we have to move on from that. The CT Project/Team Manager and CMS will be a great help to all indie developers and a big step forward for the community as a whole. It's the next step down the road for everybody.

DG / DA is still around on Coders Turf, he's creating some software called the Simple Game Toolkit which he wants to market through CT.

I was on RGT.. well until I was kicked out for well, if you were on RGT you'd know who I was.

Some users you just can't get rid of, and I think the fact there are only a few of us who hail back to the original DB.com forum we're pretty much institutions now.

The community without, me just wouldn't be the same.
Or with as many angry people :p

Ahh those were the days...

I have to admit that you've mellowed somewhat since those days eh?

I actually owned the LLRGT.com domain, though it's not long expired and I didn't bother renewing it.

My intentions were to get it started again afresh, but didn't know about the MonkeyNuts plans until it was too late. I ended up starting TGPF instead...

@ TDK:

[EDIT] Thought you meant RealGameTools.net, my bad... [/EDIT]

You wouldn't get the domain name back now anyway as it's been registered by a domain robot; and you have no legal claim to it or the name...
