I accidentally spilled water on the keyboard of my laptop. I didn't spill a lot of water so I thought it would be no big deal. I let it dry out for a day but now whenever I try to turn it on it won't start up properly. It says error "Key Stuck 36" and it will only start in Safe Mode. What should I do?

How old is it, if it's in warrenty ring up and they'll replace or fix it. If not your screwed and you'll have to end up either paying for the repairs or a replacement if there's too much damage

Make sure it has dried out properly. Removing it from the laptop is probably the quickest method. After only a day still attached to the laptop it could still be wet.
Water on it's own is usually ok once it has dried out. Other liquids like fizzy drinks are usually much worse as they can eat through the circuit traces.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

My suggestion would be try a hairdryer to dry it out. Cook it good and hopefully any excess water will evaporate. Then you could also try popping the keys off 1 by 1 as a last resort (make sure you know how they go back on), and drying it again.

You might have to take the key's off to get it really dry, like take Fallouts advice but take all the keys off first. Laptop keyboards tend to be fiddly so be carefull not to break a key.

It's probably just some moisture on the contact, which as a last resort could be fixed with a little cleaning alcohol (usually does the job).

I spilled coffee into my laptop keyboard a few months ago and rightfully freaked. I immediately shut off my computer (didn't do a proper shutdown--- just held down the power button). Then I pulled out the battery, and tipped the laptop on its side to let the coffee pour out.

By this time I was thinking about how I could afford a new computer.

Anyways, I left it sitting for almost two days, and finally powered it on. Unbelievably it worked, and still does, but I left the battery out.

Hairdryers aren't good for circuitry.

Take it apart, and lie it under a high watt lightbulb for a few hours.

If it's in the electrics, you may want to wait for it to dry for longer, sometimes electronics can take a while to work, like our TV, but it worked in the end, but unlike my brother's iPod, but he dropped it into a cup of tea as opposed to spilling something on it.

But don't use hair dryers, that's what my Dad did for our phone connector...it had to be replaced.

But I think this should be a lesson, don't drink by a computer, if you need a drink get up for one, or keep it as far away from the computer as you can and the reach over to grab it when needed (Or if you have a wheely chair, take yourself to it) You must take cautious with valuable electronics, especially when your warranty won't cover it or is expired.

Ahh! It's still not working . Windows will only start in safe mode and no matter what I try I can't get it to boot normally. Is there any way to disable the laptop keyboard and make it so that the computer only recognizes an external one? Any help would be great.
