'lo all!

I know Quake 2 and Unreal are really old games but I still appreciate them. Which do you think is best? I personally think Quake 2 is better. Although Unreal is technologically superior to Quake 2 I think Quake 2's gameplay is better.

Please post your opinion.

Well they are very different, UT definantly has the superior online game, as the moddability of the UT engine is amazing, and I myself have played it for ages on loads of mods, Quake 2 has the far better single player though, but I never played it online, but I assume UT is better :p.

When I say Unreal I mean the original Unreal. The one released about the time Quake 2 released.

Unreal. By Far. But I've never been a huge Quake fan anyways.

Unreal wins. Quake 2 was fun, but Unreal just had much more.

Haven't played Unreal, but it was Quake 2 that made be decide that FPS games aren't too bad, I've played Unreal Tournament 2003 and that's better than Quake 3 arena, but I'm not that fond of either though.

So I say Quake 2 (I still have my copy, but XP doesn't like it...bloody thing)

Unreal was far, far better.

Unreal edges it on technology (just), decks on online, and owns in level design.

Weapons and enemies it is too close to call, really.

The two things I love about Unreal is how you start with 13 health, which is clever because the prison just crashed, and also the bit where the lights are turning off over your head which is just plain awesome.

I always found the Quake games quite souless. They were always blatently an engine first and a game second. I think ID always made a quality engine, then made a quake game with it, then sold the engine for big bucks. Unreal/Unreal Tournament might've been a similar approach, but it always felt like the game had more depth and character and was valued as highly as the engine itself.

I'll Say Quake 2 > Unreal
but in other ways it's Unreal > Quake 2.

As far as single player goes I think Quake 2 is WAY better because it scares you so much (or, at least it scared me.) Unreal had decent single player and eerie environments but I think I like the hordes of enemies in Quake 2 rather than Unreals one or two hard to kill enemies.

But as far as multiplayer goes, Unreal kills Quake 2
