if people want to socialize, they'll just click the little msn button under your name.
The biggest problem I have with msn is the buddy names. Allowing users to change their name any time and to any length is just annoying.
I really think ICQ was the best, back in the day years before AOL bought it. It was the primary chat client at the time, but more and more ppl started using AIM and left me no choice but to switch. But if you've ever looked at the protocol for each, I think AIM's is the best. Google just uses jabber doesn't it?
I guess depending what country you're in, there are different mainstream clients used. AIM is the most common for Americans, while MSN pretty much dominates Europe and Australia.
