After months of saving I finally bought Vue 6. You want to see the result? Attached is a comparison showing 1 difference: A version change with a modified atmosphere.

I have to say I am very impressed! E-on are doing an excellent job, and I am sure Bryce is going to be left in the dust again!

Lens flare--- nooooooo.....

But yes, they look pretty good. The second one looks photo-realistic.

The first one was with Vue 5. The second was with Vue 6. They are the SAME SCENE. I know, amazing isnt it?

Nice work, always liked Vue, personally I find Bryce a bit tiresome.

Vue has always been a good piece of software, you'll see it often used in professional pieces, I know the Discovery Channel love using it for their 3D effects. I've tried Vue 5, I like it better than Bryce myself, but shame, my computer seems to think the opposite

Vue is to digital art, what Bob Ross is to painting.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

a happy little tree

I liked Bob Ross, and even took up that painting style (oil, wet on wet) years ago. Wasn't half bad at it either! Sold a few here and there at fairs.

And more. Not all as photo realistic as first, but extremely good if I do say so myself

You do have to get used to it, but I see you're getting the hang of it well.

As my computer hates Vue, this is the best I could do a while back, its a tiny render.

As a 3D modeller, I do suppose I'll aim to do those effects without the um...'cheating' *dodges brick* I do want it, but there is a lot I want, like Softimage|XSI 6 a new computer for 3D and uni, a mail order bride from Tahiti, money is an obstacle, especially the last one, she will be expensive I mean the maintenance costs on that one as beyond debt.

And yes Displacement mapping is pretty breathless, if you look at anything from Zbrush you'll be even more amazed, I've tried my own hand at it in Hexagon 2, but I'd rather something where you have more control with the mapping than in H2, but it's all good.

heh, if I was a 3d modeler I would try too, but alas I am not. I am a 3d designer at best, lol.

haha, well its not too late to learn, its good fun, but you have to get passed the 'my work looks odd' stage though. Which can last from a little time to a long time, depending on how well you pay attention to tutorials or the time you spend on it. (I do suppose we could do with more 3D modellers in the community )

It looks great... except that there is no blend of any kind between water and land. The shaded plane water really shows up in these situations. And a mountain pokes through a flat cloud. Ah well, that'll give reason for Vue 7.

@Nex: I didnt have time to fix the beach, the material CAN transist, just will take a bit of editing. The mountain poking through is my fault on modifying the atmosphere and decreases cloud level a bit. Really, it is a great tool, and I can fix all of those issues

Looks like i'll have to get my hands on Vue 6...Do they have a "educational" edition like they did with Vue 5?

Vue 6 Esprit should be quite cheap in its self for 3D software. Which is $159 or Vue 6 easel (I don't know what the one is like) which is mere $69

I use xstream. I use it with Cinema 4d. One hell of a price tag though. $400 for just one license.

They still do have Educational licenses available from site. DL only.

Attached is the rerender. I appear to have more to learn to get the sand effect ='(
