TGC support has tried very hard to get my purchase history over to my newer email address. We have, so far, had no luck, and instead of making more work for them; I just about decided to forget about getting the enhancements.

DBoy780, not meaning to nitpick, but your sig is spelled wrong, it should be "Making nothing for the fourth straight year."

i got DBC a while a go for christmas, so i dont know if my parents put it as their e-mail, or as my old e-mail

The problem with the gaming community is people think that the resolution of a game defines how good it is. I am not afraid to make a game where the main character is 50x50.

If you bought DBC and/or downloaded/registered it with TGC then you will be in their database. Therefore, confirming you are a legitimate owner takes them a few seconds.

If however you bought it mail order elsewhere or from a shop, then confirming this fact would take considerably longer than a few seconds.

When you consider that there could be thousands of users like this out there, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that it would be a massive undertaking to make the offer available to every owner of a legit copy of DBC.

Therefore, unfortunately if you aren't on their database, downloading the 2007 version of DBC is not an option. Sorry!

So basically, having bought DBC 6 years ago in a store in the Netherlands and having bought DarkMATTER from a friend in the UK, means I have to rebuy DBC to get the DarkEXTRA's?

You can buy the Enhancement pack without repurchasing DB. It is not as nice as getting it for free, but its not like having to re-buy the whole thing over again:

£12 for the enhancements! Inexpensive? It's half the price of the original!
If you really need the functionality of the enhancement pack, you might as well just buy DBP?
I normally don't have a bad thing to say about TGC but this is ridiculous.

on the homepage here it says you can get DBC for £9.99

that would make it actually cheaper to rebuy DBC than to buy the enhancements

methinks there's something amiss here...

I was one of the original purchasers of DBC back in '00, when "The Game Creators" really didn't exist, just Dark Basic Software. Purchasing DBC involved downloading the demo, buying a license via Share-IT, then registering the demo.

I've kept that license email for seven years. If you're like me, and would like the updated package, I wouldn't bother contacting support. It's...frustrating, let's leave it at that.

And come to think of it, is there any reason to bother if one has DBP?

I hopw the v1.2 doesn't end up as an 'only form website' thing. That would be a mega disapointment.

From what I understand so far, I don't think it is going to be. I think a download link is going to be provided.

Thank god. I bought mine from a store and it would be a major disappointment if it came out and I wasn't allowed to download it.

Don't want to disappoint you Luke, but I'm pretty sure that anyone who has bought DBC from a store will be out of luck in the same way as they were with the Jan 2007 version.

The only chance you have is if TGC introduce some registration scheme where you can register your software on-line - because otherwise there is no way they can determine who has a legitimate copy and who doesn't.

They simply don't have the staff or time to manually confirm whether someone who claims they bought it in a shop actually did or not.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they say when the time comes...

It doesn't make sense that TGC wouldn't make the releases available to everyone. Could it be a matter of money? That shouldn't be the case. The forums have fronted the bill a thousand times over by providing free customer support by answering questions, posting code, free programs, dlls, bug tracking, field testing, the list goes on and on. The amount of money TGC has saved by not having to provide that support themselves directly and passing it on to the customer is outrageous. The legitimacey of the copies of DBC that are floating around that weren't purchased is moot as they have been paid for in terms of the forums community task management and support.

Hopefully, as advocates of quality service, TGC would make the current updates and any future updates available to everyone.

Enjoy your day.

Actually, I've been thinking about this since I made my last post and I don't think I was right with what I said in it.

My comments were assuming that the new version would be like the 2007 version but clearly it won't be. There's no Dark Matter involved for a start.

So, version 1.2.0 should be a simple installer that updates your already installed full version of DBC. As an updater, there's no reason why it shouldn't be a free download just like all the past updates have been.

Unless you already own the full version, the updater won't do anything.

So, sorry for the confusion...

Isn't that the case with the enhancments though? Shouldn't the enhancments be up for grabs free, as they come with the latest DB anyway, and will not work for someone without DB?

I purchased mine from Amazon.co.uk and I have the receipt. If I contact support would the information in the receipt be sufficient?

This thread you are posting on is the old 1.13 update. Take a look at the 1.2 thread below. I believe this update is available to everyone:

Thanks. I got the upgrade to 1.20 from the website. But what about Dark Matter? I believe that's a 71 MB download. How do I get that?

Dark Matter is treated as a seperate product I think. If it wasn't included when you bought it (mine was) then you'll have to buy it seperately I think.

Quote: "Today we released a new build of DarkBASIC Classic. This new release is available to anyone who has ever purchased DarkBASIC from us in the past. This includes the boxed version and the electronic version. The new installer includes:

DarkBASIC Classic 1.13 English, Fully Updated
Full electronic manual
DarkBASIC Enhancements Pack, Full Release
DarkMATTER 1
DarkEdit IDE"

Oh I see. Dark Matter was released wit the update previous to 1.20 -

Support is probably the best way to go to see if you can get this download. You'd probably have to reinstall 1.20 after though.

Enjoy your day.

Yep. I contacted support. They have to get back to me.
It's not just Dark Matter. It seems Ron has put together some great tuts and full games with code, which is also part of the 71 MB download.
