Hi, I'd like some help on programming MIDI in DarkBasic 1.13 using MIDI Cues. Let me explain...

Back in the day, programmers would have 3 parts to a MIDI file. Start, Middle, End. These were separate files, and what would happen is that the start was played at an appropriate moment, and that then led onto the Middle played continuously for until the player completed the level, and it moved on to the end file. I could do this fine, but a more sophisticated method is having 1 file and placing cues. These are events that are labelled which the program can interpret and use. An example of this in practice is Final Fantasy VII. It is in my capacity to create cues, but I don't want to bother dissecting MIDIs just to achieve this effect. Any suggestions? TIA.

What are you using to write midi? In cakewalk it would be disgustingly simple to create 3 sound files...I dont think db can handle midi flags without custom writen .dll's.

Hmm, I'm using AnvilStudio. The main program's free, the optional components (like lyrics and sheet music printout) cost money, but it's only like $20 per accessory. I just wanted to do it professionally. And I was afraid someone was going to say "DLL." Looks like I'm going to invest in C for Dummies, how degrading. Thanks again Raven, your advice is well appreciated.

But why not simply save the music as 3 files?

It's unprofessional...
It's more of a hassle to program...
It's really bothersome to dissect the song.

Worry about functional, THEN professional.
It's less of a hassle to make.
It's more bothersome to learn an entire nother language.

I see your point. I've started breaking them up now, and it's going well.
