Hi, well I was originally intending to post this in the 2d board, but after a couple of thoughts I found out that the board was for game making related 2d art. So I ended up posting this here instead.

I was watching the anime series "Naruto", where in the first episode there was this short clip of a girl which I instantly thought of as the coolest character in the series, in other words my favorite character. Well anyway I couldn't find a wallpaper with her that would fit my windows theme nor with my widescreen resolution. So I decided to just make a wallpaper on my own.

In my opinion it turned out pretty good, the image of her is just a random one i found on searchmash. while the background and shadow is my work.

This was also my first attempt at creating something "serious" in photoshop. I usually just make some crap black and white concept art or some stupid effects for specific stuff. oh and plus menus for games.

If you're still here after reading all of this, have a look:

Considering most of you are probably way more talented that me, I would like some feedback on what could be changed/added and etc. or if you like it at all.

I like it - although I'm not into anime in the slightest... I'm not overly keen on the dithered background - imho it'd look better with a smooth gradient (less noise).

It was well made, but i agree with Nicholas, i think it would look nicer with a smooth background....easier on the eyes. It just may be personal taste so don't take it too seriously.

Thanks. hmm, a smoother background? I guess that could be accomplished quite easily.

I was thinking that maybe I should start with 2D drawings or something. in my opinion I have some talent in just plain old drawing with a pencil and paper, but when it comes to digitally drawn stuff I really can't seem to get it right.

Does anybody know what that thing is called like a pen and mouse mat that you can draw on, that you connect to the computer as a mouse? maybe I'll get one of those.

My mate has a WACOM one and its fantastic. I personally cant justify buying one as I have very poor hand-eye coordination when it comes to drawing, however using it (once you're used to it) its really easy and you can use it as a replacement to a mouse. The one he had used clever technology involving the tablet inducing current in the pen which then produced some kind of field which let the tablet know not only where is was positioned, but what angle it was at and what the pressure was. You could also turn it upside down and it detected that and changed to the rubber tool!

I've heard bad things about the cheap models - like they tend not to be as accurate. WACOM's are more expensive - but much better quality.

Based upon the WACOM tablets that I've used I belief that is the standard for them.

Thanks.

Will I be able to use this tablet in photoshop?
Like I don't know much of photoshops features, but while were speaking about identifying pressure caused on the pen, will photoshop be able to read that, and draw a smoother line?

I know that you can define how smooth you want it to be, like 100% = totally black line (if that's the color were using) and 50% = smooth gradinent translation from black to transparent around the edges.

I don't know much about digital art, as I said. but if the tablet will be able to detect these stuff automaticaly, hopefully this can change

You have to enable it within Photoshop, but you can set it to modify whatever you want based on pressure or tilt angle. There's lots of options and you can quite easily set it up to modify both the opacity of the brush based on pen pressure and the shape of it based on the tilt.
