Hey guys,

You may have read the review or even played my demo for my game, Project Luna. I decided to make this thread to post updates I have for the game. I am readying my next demo, which will hopefully be available soon. I just wanted to say that I have updated many of the things in my levels (I will post some screens later - I'm not at home right now). I am in the beginnings of my 5th level, which promises to be really freaky... Anyway, I just thought I would also say that I am creating a walkthrough for the levels, and have finished the first section. On top of this, I have added my very first secret to the game, and if you find it (when I release the demo), you will be pleasantly surprised with the reward. I just thought I'd post so that when I release the next demo, you will know about it. [href]

EDIT [11/2/05]: Finally, after all this time, a new demo has been released! Page Two of this thread reveals some stuff, but I will say this is a complete makeover of Level 1, and that's all. I have a bunch of custom stuff, though! Download the 80 MB file () here: http://files.filefront.com/Project_Luna_Demoexe/;4312731;;/fileinfo.html

EDIT [3/4/06]: Again, finally, the latest version of level 1 is out!
This new version introduced cutscenes, story mechanics, triggered sound effects, custom media, and a whole lot more. Check it out here:
http://files.filefront.com/PL_Demo_Level_1exe/;5047469;;/fileinfo.html
The download size is 130MB, so it doesn't come quick, but hopefully some of you guys can sacrifice the time. Below are two "promotional" shots I took... I'll add more when I get back on to the computer (11PM Pacific Time!), but these should (hopefully) suffice for the next few hours.

EDIT [6/5/06]: Just felt like mentioning my "site" for Project Luna, mainly because I just like doing stuff like that. You can reach it here:
http://www.projectluna.cjb.net.
And if you don't like the CJB's, the actual URL is here:
http://www.freewebs.com/projectluna

EDIT [6/14/06]: Just thought I'd give the link to the game's new trailer. It's 13.64MB--large, but necessary. It goes for 2:29 and is available here.

EDIT [6/17/06]: I believe that the old demo link is possibly corrupt. If this is the case and you want to download the demo, get it here.
Jiffy

EDIT [7/20/06]: Well, some Promotional Shots have just been made up! They look pretty good if you ask me, but remember that they're rather... well, bear--this is because they're meant to promote the level as opposed to show you exactly what happens. Anyway, here they are:

Granweld Warehouse

The Catacombs

For some info on the shots, refer to page 9.

EDIT [8/5/06]: As mentioned in the second post on page 10, Episode III (or level three, if you prefer) is in development and to celebrate I have a production shot for you of the level! Take a look here:

Cool, but it would have been more productive if you would post this when you actually have some of that ready, screenshots or the demo. Just a suggestion!

Good to hear that. Sorry about posting before having anything to show - I would post something else now but I'm out again (have a habit of doing that!). I will hopefully fix level 4 tonight, and I'll post the level in here tonight if I do.

EDIT: Just wanted to fix up some grammatical errors... more than a year after the post

Hi, sorry again about making this thread MUCH too prematurely, but level four went insanely wrong, and I had to remake it (not done yet). But, just to tell you, I'm working on a walkthrough for each level, and have finished the one for the demo version. If anyone wants it for whatever reason, you can e-mail me and i'll send it to you. This will probably not be of much use (since the demo isn't all that hard), but I thought i'd post anyway. Also, I'll post as soon as level 4 is completed (again) and I'll release the level file.

I have three suggestions -- get rid of the zombies, create a more balanced secondary weapon, and add more lighting. I found it too dark to even shoot the zombies!

You are right, but it meant to be really quite dark - however, I have redone a few areas of each level now so it is easier to see everything. As for the zombies, the enemies are based solely around them, as that's where the storyline leads. I know it is pretty boring having the same 3 or 4 enemies though, and in a few later levels there are human enemies (or entities at least in the case of level 4). Hmmm... a more balanced secondary weapon - can you explain that in more detail?

Normally, you don't start out with a badass rocket launcher to go along with your assault rifle. Try a pistol, or even a shotgun, but never, ever (with few exceptions) have the player start with the best weapon (s) in the game.

I know this - it has already been fixed. I did this for the first demo because the first part of the first level my friend made a week before for fun. Now you start off with the pistol, and the first enemy no longer weilds a bazooka (that was a rather strange beginning). I am planning some other touch ups for the first five levels on Tuesday or Wednesday - I'm on vacation until then, so i'll start after I get back and get working on level 6. And beleive me, even though you now don't get the assult rifle till level 5 (It's semi-hidden), it is certainly not the most powerful gun in the game .

Lavitz, your post reminded me of this thread. I am up to level 6 now, and if you guys want I can make up a new 5 level demo and upload it to FPSCreators, the only problem is it's about 195 MB .

Yeah? Well, so what? I've played games alot bigger than a 1000 megs before, it's not like you're doing something no one has done before.

Three things to look forward to:

Hey guys! I was bored last night, so I decided to create a quick trailer of the game. I made everything myself (with Fraps, Flash MX, Photoshop and Anvil Studio). I am hosting on the site I made when I was young and idiotic (heh), but I haven't set up another site yet. So anyway, click the 'Play Trailer' link on the webpage. Enjoy!

EDIT: Just to tell you, it's in .WMV format

EDIT II: As you may have guessed a while ago, yes, I do hate spelling mistakes

Sorry for my late reply - the forum doesn't seem to be registering new posts in the 'My Threads' section. But anyway, I'm not positive which outdoor segments you are referring to, but just to cover something I forgot to - the tombstones were done completely by Noldor, many thanks for it. Once again - if you are talking from the trailer, the graveyard/outside crypt were done easily just using wall segments outside, wereas the grass was done... wait for it... with the grass segment! The part up high on the boardwalk was done just using the boardwalk up high. If you are talking from the demo - I must say that demo isn't very good. I have learnt a lot about FPSC from then, and when I update my redone levels to V1 they should ROCK! I am particularly proud of the new level 1, which is based in the same mansion, redone and actually looking and feeling like a mansion (The dining room and study from the trailer are part of that level). The lighting on the trailer is very low, and look heaps lighter in game. Anyway, I've already slapped together the opening cutscene, which will use the story zone and looks quite good. I will hopefully release the totally revamped 5 level demo a few weeks after V1, when I have intergrated my EA levels into V1. The demo will be very hefty, something like 200+ megs. Hope you've got some time all you 56k people !

EDIT: Just to mention, I have thought of some very interesting puzzles for some levels (using known V1 capabilities, of course), so it will be interesting to see what you guys think!

Thanks! I have put a fair amount of work into it, but I only have the good ol' included media (I'm terrible with 3D stuff). I've got some good 2D going though - I've implemented a new HUD, and it looks quite good. Once again, wait a while longer and I'll be releasing a nice little surprise!

EDIT: Meh, I can't wait. I won't give you the surprise, but I'll show you some nice screenshots! Here's number 1. This is where you begin, Reaser Mansion. Take a look at my pwetty HUD in the corner! Isn't it beautiful?

PureEvil - I have no idea why that would be. Quite strange, espeicially because they work on both my home computer and my notebook .

Doctor Evil - Nice to know. As I said before, they were made by Noldor and can be found in the 'Free Signs' thread in the Models and Media section.

EDIT: I hate it when I say things like "woek", so I just had to fix it .

Don't worry - I like questions! Well, because one of my favourite hobbies is writing, I have an entirely long storyline for Project Luna. I'm debating with myself in my next project, but it'll either be a sequel (a little early yet ) or a game of a new project I'm writing called "2012". Essentially, it's about the end of the world. I've used real evidence (not concrete, but things like the end of the Mayan calendar, and the fact that we will cross the equator of our galaxy) to back it up. Pretty simple idea, but if I decide to do it, it'll be puzzle-based, with some action mixed in. But that's for another day .

Is teh Merranvo really 25? Anyway, yeah. While researching it, I found that there is like an entire cult to do with it. Google "2012" and you come up with some very weird sites. Some even have countdowns to the "End of Days" .

EDIT: While I'm here, I'll ask - what do you think of the HUD? I had a few concepts, and might be changing the numerics (not to good with them, but I thought I'd give it a try).

yeah, gravestone for lives, but i'd say maybe a heart for health, and the less you have, the faster it pumps, and looks more beat up, and there could be blood trickling down it when you have like almost no health.

Bosco - Don't worry about that! I know that the trailer music was horrible - I made it in Anvil Studio the first day I got it. I've got some new music now - tell me what you think (it's got more backing, hopefully a bit better); I made it in Anvil as well, but once again I reckon it sounds infinitly better.

As for the switch of the symbols in the huds, I was considering to switch them, like you said. I whipped it up quite quickly, I'll be improving on it. Anyway, I had the tombstone for health because it had the + on it, but I guess it would make sense switching them. I'll see if I can change the symbol to the dying heart, but I haven't quite understood how to use multiple images (probably through a script).

Once again, I've attached the music to this post. On the subject of the music attached, I think it might sound a little sad rather than foreboding (at least to begin with), but still tell me what you think.

Just thought I'd post to ask a question - has anyone got any conversion tools to switch this cat to .x? It's in .cfx, .ms3d and .b3d (BLITZ! NO!). I've got the models attached, and once again, it's from PSIONIC.

Hey, sorry for the double post.

I had tried to upload a 1 level demo, a special Hallowe'en surprise, and all had gone fine for the first 3 hours. Ofcourse, as you'd expect, with less than one minute to go, I recieved the error message 'Operation Timed Out'. I'm reuploading now, but you may not see it until tomorrow.

Sweet, while we wait, reasons to get project luna:

zombies. Need I say more?

Horror themes, something we don't see often enough in games nowadays.

(seemingly) good plot.

Why, thank you! Uploading now (finally, for the third time today) and it's going to take 4 hours. I'll post the link when finished.

I'll give you a heads up now that it is VERY deifferent to what it used to be - to anyone who played the old three level demo, you will be quite surprised at the difference. I'm only releasing the 1 level because, quite simply, I haven't had time. 3 levels would be a massive download, and the level took a very long time to polish. It's not amazing or anything, and it won't chill you to the bone with events and sch, but I tried my best with the stuff I had. I had to take out cutscenes :-( due to the file size. It was 108 with cutscenes (that FPSPacked and Installerised) and 86 without. If anyone REALLY desperately wants them, I'll release them with the next demo. For you 56k'ers, I'm releasing a trailer soon. It's about 50% done, but I've a lot on lately (miscellanious work, NaNoWriMo ) but I hope to have it done soon. I can release the map, but you'll have to install the dog model, texture, fpe and the zombie fpi yourselves (I'm not planning on going to your house to do it! (For that matter, I could make an installer for it)).

I'm also thinking of releasing a neat little guide-y type thing, which gives you the full story ((Simiar to what I did in the included readme with demo 1)I sum it up on the new loading page, since I remember ages ago when I released demo 1 somebody said that the story was too confusing without looking at th old readme, which is understandable).

I sure do like using brackets inside other brackets, don't I ! ((hehe))

EDIT: One more thing. The zombies are... how to put it... violent. Not so much blood wise, but they can hear you very well when behind doors, and tend to claw at them for as long as they need to. Just to mention some bugs. The clawing thing is cute (), but sometimes they will *tansport* through them, and attack you. That's why I suggest not to linger around them TOO long. That's the only thing I can think of off of the top of my head, but one more thing. Be careful if you choose to shoot the bottles in the dining room. I won't tell you what happens, but let's just say they are filled with alcohol. Lots of alcohol!

EDIT: Frustratingly, my computer mysteriously turned off half way through the upload. I'm re-uploading now, sorry for the delays. It really should work this time, and if it doesn't I apologize further.

I'm going to play it, but look at this:

Quote: "Filename: PL_Demo.exe
Size: 79 MegaBytes
Server: FileFront US Hosted Distro #10

Queue Status

Place in line: 153 / 161
Time waited: 21 Seconds
Est. remaining: 37 Minutes"

It may take a while and may not even be today for me

Be inovative and creative.... don't create a fps with FPSC.
