Was. It got bought out after 911 (I work with travel companies, which didn't do to well afterwards) and we were just cogs in a much bigger machine. Now I contract for them from my office in Cyprus (my apartment) with a view of the sea....... Erm, yeah, pretty fantastic still I suppose. But it used to be awesome.

I too had some entanglement with Indi when i first returned about a month ago. I guess I'm lucky, but we worked it out. He could of slapped me, but in the end I realized that I was taken things really personal. All I can say is that I have seen Indi use discretion. At least with me. And I think I was close to calling him the same name.

Every MOD is different, it's not like they are bots. Each has their own style, and while Indi issues seem to come up more often, I would think that if TGC felt there was a real problem it would have been dealt with. I won't always agree with Indi, which is sometimes a problem within itself (I think we all know that), but I'm not going to egg it on with him either.

If you happen to find the thread I am referring to, you can see that both people could be right and wrong. After giving it a day, and getting over my initial feelings of insult, it was clear that the best solution was to leave it alone and offer my appology. Since then, I've seen Indi in a different light. And he has been very helpful to my personal projects. So just as in life, there are people with whom I've bumbed heads with, that turn out to be really great friends.

I dunno, I got the feeling Indi was beginning to get personal with the case when David R got slapped, before he did. I do admit he does his good modding and is only human bound to his own opinion, and David R was wrong to call him a jerk in the circumstance...yet I didn't feel the slap was necessary, or at least from Indi.

From what was presented it looked like a harsh punishment, I agree. I've seen worse than someone calling someone a jerk. And Indi does have a rep for name calling, especially calling people "kids" in a demeaning way. I myself am 32. So for me to be called a kid, and treated like I'm a child on a sugar rush ... well, doesn't sit well.



Good thing it has been resolved now, and through it MODS have more ability to reconsider. In the end it worked out for everyone.

Everyone is entitled to their oppinion. We all have people we like or agree with more so than others, whether they be Mods or not. Regardless of our oppinions, it's just not the best thing to gang up on one mod in a thread. I was trying to illustrate that while indi may not do things the way I would always like, he does have control and discretion.

I don't like everyone of his posts, and I don't agree with him a lot; but then again he might not agree with my way of coveying things. I think A mods job is tough, especially if they are worried about making friends with everyone. Indi is who he is, and for the most part I personally think he does a lot of good.

No mod is going to put another mod out for the vultures. And they shouldn't. I'm not sure, but hoenstly I think they would discuss issues they see going on in private.

Now if a person is having real trouble with one specific mod, I believe they should be able to contact another mod or asministrator to help mediate on their behalf. I'm not sure if that happens here, perhaps a MOD could clarify.

So Mods, if someone seemed to feel that a given MOD personally had it in for them, or was harsh or unfair in their treatment. Would any of you be willing to mediate, even if in private with the MOD in question to help resolve the issue? I would think so. I would also think that if it is posted for the everyone to see dirty laundry, that it might prevent you from stepping in and helping handle things. Perhaps you all can share how we should approach these types of issues in the future.

MODS were chosen to do a job, like stated, if there is or was a problem with a MOD abusing power, they would be taken off the MOD squad. Just be respectful, and there won't be any trouble. If someone insults you, just ignore them, your the better person for doing so.

Has this ever happened here? I am just wondering as I get the impression that mods tend to close ranks when something like this comes up. I would expect their primary role as moderators would be to protect the innocent users of the forum rather than each other, which I think is sometimes the case (publicly anyway).

We do have different methods of moderating. I don't always agree with Indi's moderating style....just as (I suspect) he may not agree with mine.

Everybody here has seen the occassional incident where one of us has a go at another Mod; but, generally, we try to keep things in the moderator forums (that's where we like to talk about all of you ). As far as closing ranks goes; there have been a number of times when we have disagreed (sometimes collectively) on the way a Mod operates; usually we talk it out amongst ourselves, occassionally Rich has some input. For the most part we usually either come to a common understanding, or just "agree to disagree".

Abusing any member of this community is not tolerated; however, if you are willing to dish it out...you'd better be willing to receive it back, without whining about Mod abuse.

I would venture to guess that most Mod's inboxes have a number of "choice" e-mails from disgruntled members; that's what the Junk Mail's for.

All in all; we all try to be fair and even handed, but if you're a repeat offender, you may have a shorter leash than the average user does when it comes to a punishable offense.

I'd like to post some of the fun e-mail correspondance but it would violate the AUP.
I had a person send me directions to his home hoping I would go there because he wanted to pick a fight with me...
I am not very tolerant of repeat offenders.Most people do not need to be moderated and most who are learn after the first moderation.
Unfortunatly there are a very few who don't learn or think they are above following the rules.
As moderators we do disagree from time to time but we do try to do it in the appropriate place.A mod cannot take things personally and they need to have a thick skin.

I concur.

I'm pleased that this slap is now gone, and although I agree that "repeat offenders" are likely to get a "shorter leash", the leash may of been a bit over-short in this case; in fact, the slap itself is somewhat dubious - but either way, sorry for what I said Indi, and thanks for reversing the slap.

I think we were both somewhat "out of line" in the way we spoke to each other in that thread, but ultimately you are the one with the slapping power, so I respect that; I'm "cool" as such. This issue is over/finished/resolved etc.

Sure.... I got banned for something I didn't even do. A 'respected' forum member accused me of doing something I didn't do at all, a number of parties were involved. For some reasons some mods took his side and decided to ban me, before I even knew I was banned the forum member emailed me telling me I was banned, while he shouldn't even have such information. The whole deal was sorted out in the end, but the mods involved refused to lift the ban. Worst was that the person accusing me, behaved very offensive (and has done so before), yet he has never been banned for doing so.

Perhaps some mods try to be fair, but not all of them. Some of them abuse their power and are partial.

Well some clearly are and they get away with much more then others. I've seen people banned here by mods for hardly saying anything at all, while others have been allowed to insults people without consequences. Rules around here are very flexible when it comes to certain people (or should I say friends?).

You got banned for trolling...plain and simple.If you don't follow the rules you get moderated.The other stuff wasn't what you got banned for.You just kept trolling and trolling.
Now I honestly thought you had dropped this crap and went on about your life.
If you have a problem with me you can e-mail me (which you haven't done),you could return one of several e-mails I sent to you when you developed this new attitude of yours asking what was wrong and how I could help...or you can head right on down the road again and have the same thing happen.
And...in case you think I have something personal against you (I have nothing personal against anyone...I can just shut the computer off and walk away and come back to it whenever I wish) I am not the only mod who banned you and I only banned you after receiving numerous complaints through e-mail and the threads that you were trolling in.
Now the way I see it is if you want to be a grown up about it you have two choices...
a. You can try to work this out even though I thought is was over and done with.
b. You go on with your life.

Is there any place on Earth where this doesn't happen? Most people who get quickly banned are new members who just troll the forums deliberately posting crap, you may not notice to what extent as previous posts / topics may have be deleted or edited.
