One thing that really annoys me is the amount of people who buy into it just because its 'teh pwnage multiplayer' im one of the people who have been really pulled in by the storyline, everyone i know who has bought the game says they got bored of the storyline in about 5 Min's, which actually sickens me, fake fans.

its an amazing storyline and i wish more people saw that, even the soundtrack really gets me moving

haven't touched online yet, but Ive gotten to around the fourth level i think

@ the crazy

i found that hilarious, bungie are so awesome XD

The story of halo is brilliant, yes, but the games have done a pretty bad job of telling it, in my opinion.

Also, you have to love the music

@Oolite: The music is great. And Halo and Halo 3 I think explains the story best.

damnit, I gave in today and ordered it...I couldn't help myself, I need to see what its like! I hope the multiplayer isn't like previous halo's full of pre-pubescent losers and uber players.

@ Jonny,

Two things seem to fix the jerk kid's and the uber player problem. Firstly, equipment really balances out the game, so it's no longer purely run and gun. So in this way, things like the bubble shield, radar jammer, life sucker, ect help bring down good players.

Secondly, there is an option to turn off mics, so the annoying and seemingly 3 year old losers who moan and groan about pwning can be muted. I believe it's called the "A-hole button".

What's funny is Xbox Live has *always* had the option to mute a player, since day one. Nobody notice that?

Was a great ride, from start to end. 8-9 hours on Normal, I think. Now doing Heroic and afterwards teaming up in Coop for Legendary.

Played with three other friends on Legendary for 3pm to about 9:30pm. It was awesome, especially parts with the tanks/hornets. I have to admit that the end was a bit... anticlimactic.

Still, great game. Can't wait to have a LAN party with 6 of my friends this Friday. Should be kick ass!

Ugh...one more level until I can read the spoilers!

I just played a good amount of multiplayer today. It was scrumptious. High Ground is really fun with teams, and Last Resort is great for Forge.

How would you know it's one more level, if you haven't completed it yet?

Don't play MP until you finish the campaign. Sigh. Cortana! Master Chief! Keyes! Sgt. Johnson! Hood! Guilty Spark! The Covenant! The Journey! The Prophet of Truth! The Arbiter! The Ark! Earth! The Gravemind! The Flood! One of the most epic stories in modern game history, and you just sit there and go into MP...

I just thought I'd throw in that BioShock was ported from the PC to the 360, or at least developed for both at the same time, considering they were released at the same time. I own it for the pc, and many of my friends own it for the 360. It feels a lot like a pc fps on both.

Everyone and there uncle owns halo 2 and 3 on my dorm floor, so I've got a lot of experience in the multiplayer. I completely suck at it though, and it's really not what I'm into that much. I'd probably enjoy it more if people weren't so serious about it. I get all tensed up when I'm on a team with good players. Mainly, I just can't stand using a analogue stick to move the camera. The only two console fps games I've played that I feel comfortable using the camera in are Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid 3. The Wiimote and DS touch screen work way better for fps games, I think.

I do like the Halo 3 multiplayer more than the Halo 2 multiplayer though.

@Zombie20:

I can't remember that at all, actually... Oh wait. I do. Yeah, that was a shock.

Zombie20, Halo 3 ends with Master Chief dropping a special type of organic anti-flood weapon on the Gravemind, which implodes after a great fight. However, this organism turns out more aggressive than the flood itself and survives the catalystic chain of events that follows, destroying the entire universe as the Ark activates all Halo's assuming that these new evolutionary signatures are the ultimate flood weapon. Master Chief tries to prevent the firing, and reaches the control panel with the cancel button with only a few seconds left. The organic weapon, Paris Hilton, however, distracts him and he mispresses. That's why Cortana said: "This is the way the world ends". Halo ofcourse, is utter bullcrap. The world ends in 2014, when an asteroid strikes London.

*** SPOILER ABOUT HARRY POTTER 6, THE SIXTH SENSE AND BOURNE ULTIMATUM ***

You didn't think I was actually going to spoil it for you, didn't you? Come on, it would be pathetic to spoil the ending of such an epic story to you. It's like saying Snape kills Dumbledore, Bruce Willis is dead already and Jason Bourne signed up out of free will. You don't say that neither.

Pfft...

Wouldn't the Halos destroy the galaxy only? The universe is pretty big. and I thought I heard the chief and cortana say

Sorry. Indeed, the galaxy. The Halos destroy the Galaxy, not the universe. As far as I can recall, each Halo is capable of effectively destroying about a fourth/fifth of our Galaxy.

I played it and finished it, I stand by my 'meh' comment. What I was pretty depressed about was the fact that...

As far as gameplay is concerned, its very similar to halo 2 very little seems to have changed imo, I thought that was kinda lame. Multiplayer is better though, I could actually get some kills so I was happy about that.
I'm gonna play through again on legendary and try and find all these extras and see if it changes my mind from 'meh'.

Why change a rock-solid, winning formula? That's one weird assumption, to think they'd throw over the rudder. They added a lot with equipment and the big weapons.

The story is rocksolid... really.

You don't change, you add & improve. The new equipment pickups were a nice addition but apart from that everything just felt so samey, it wasn't even graphically that impressive. That imo doesn't make for an amazing and spectacular game like everyone keeps saying it is.
The story is average, without the cliff hanger at the end of halo 2 I doubt I would have bothered with halo 3 for quite some time.

I'm not arguing that halo 3 wasn't a good game, it was but its nothing to wet your pants over. I read about a guy who swapped his 49 game collection to get his hands on a copy of halo 3 a week early. If I were him I'd be pretty gutted right now.

[edit]
I think it must be that I just don't get it. I've played 1&2 twice through and I'll run through the third again, but I've never had the Halo fever that others seem to get. I've either missed something or its just not my cup of coffee >>

Actually I think the game is worth the hype, if only because they made console shooters big. Halo was an amazing game, with amazing controls, an amazing story and amazing graphics. It also had this 'holy trinity of Halo (Guns, Melee, Grenades) which just felt perfect. Halo 2 was a logical sequel which just built further on the concept with more and better (and horrible Arbiter missions). Halo 3 is the ending. If a game has so much following, starting at the Halo: Combat Evolved controls...

It's a bit like Lord of the Rings - it blows you away every time, while in fact you see the same guys do the same things but on a larger scale from a different point of view with a similar goal and a solid endgoal.

[EDIT: Trading in 49 games is sick though. Some people take it too far.]

I've completed campaign 5 times now! On all difficulties and found all the skulls. I take bake my previous comment. THIS GAME IS COMPLETELY AWESOME!

The Forge editor just completes the multi-player aspect of the game. It is a must buy.

I started playing it again today on legendary, the ramped up difficulty certainly makes the game campaign much better. I think I may have made my judegement a bit quickly. I hadn't messed with things like the forge and also watching replays of you pwning people is jolly good fun . I still don't think its worth all the hype, but its not as bland and 'samey' as I first thought, ramping up the difficulty has caused me to have to experiment with more of the equipment and everything seems more beneficial instead of just being tacked on.

Just read a bit of Halo background, it's interesting to see the references to Marathon that appear in Halo.

And of course, Halo 3 was definitely worth the hype! It was the end of an epic and best selling FPS trilogy, after all. Can't wait to watch hilarious and freaking awesome clips of my friends and I this friday!!!

Halo is the start of console FPS; it is a briliant, convincingly created universe, a rocksolid storyline, control scheme and quite good graphics. It is vehicular combat worked out near perfection. It is one of the most played multiplayer games on the console and quite a succes on PC.

Halo is, whatever you think of the craze or the hype or the genre, undeniably an example of good game development.

Microsoft claims Halo 3 is the biggest selling game, but I am not 100% sure. It made the most money, but some of the SKUs were over $100. Also, there are not as many 360s in the wild as Xboxes when Halo 2 was released.

I'd say that Goldeneye on the N64 started it all, although Halo did a lot for the genre it has to be said. For me the best thing about Halo, all the games that is, is the co-op mode - I rarely play through a game more than once, but I've played through Halo about 8 times, Halo2 about the same, and Halo3 twice. You'd think I'd be better at deathmatches!.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...
