Well the Geek Culture has gotten quite messy recently due to off topic posting and well I've done my fair share and have been a bad influence in people posting and well of course...people's creativity now matter how weird it is should not be trampled upon...but of course there's a time and a place for everything I agree the place is not here.

So I think the mods are doing a right thing by keeping things cleaner...

But what about the nutters? Well we can have a place for all that, I read a mod say something about that this is not MySpace...and well it isn't, but MySpace is, so I've decided to create a TGC Apollo group dedicated to those who want a bit of fun/insanity without messing up a forum.

Hopefully it'll be a good enough detour:

[edit]
After people deciding against the idea of MySpace, I have set up a better place for this...please sign up below.

There you go mods and forumers, I hope you can relax.

Thanks and indeed, I think removing our rubbish is probably the best idea. Also if you have something against myspace, then you'll have to control yourself...I mean it's just a place to commute the rest of us - you don't need to become a MySpace whore just to be a part of it, just to have an account.

Alright I'll join up too, I agree with this idea wholly, its time for us to leave geek culture alone and let it be just that. Great idea seppuku.

Why doesn't TGC incorporate my post-to-lock system? After 10 posts with the keywords[I posted before this got locked] the thread automatically gets locked.

That could be quite easily abused.

The problem remains, what was the thread doing there in the first place?

Yeah that's the problem with MySpace, you can't do anything for a week - I guess it's to stop spammers...though it's something spammer can work around surely? Anyway, I guess I'll see MySpace newbies there in a week.

Thanks Seppuku, anything to stop the rot in this place. It was a flippant remark by me, but if it lets people blurt incessantly without clogging geek Culture's arteries, it's a welcome move.

Geek Culture is a fantastic place to be, when it highlights new technology & gadgets, worthy news items and the like. But 98% of the community couldn't give a dam about new girlfriends and pointless drivel.

Slaps will become more commonplace until we see a better quality of post here. A general question you should ask is: Will people learn anything useful from my post?

there was one a week or two before which quite quickly managed to break about 5 rules of the AUP (at least about 3 by me) so they locked your one in anticipation of just having the same old debate again.

Cheers Batvink and no problem, that sounds like a generally good bit of advice, I think that would sit nicely in a sticky or something for people to remember and post when a topic is useless.

Quote: "

It can't be helped I'm afraid, unless we can find another website that doesn't have this, but then the problem there is, people have already started signing up. A week really isn't all that long, just think of it as the automatic newb slaps new members get at TGC.

If people have a problem with using MySpace that much, we could probably discuss an alternative? (I just thought as a lot of people have MySpace accounts, it wouldn't effect too many)

Guys, you know that's not a good idea, just think about it...TDK has more power than you guys can imagine, trying to annoy TDK in the Geek world will be just as bad as annoying Chuck Norris in the real world.

Also:

We've got about 5 people signed up right now, it would be good if more nutters came on and get things moving (thanks Evil Star for getting a discussion going, but of course, in the welcome thread I said 'be nice' ) so more people will be attracted to it...

Also, could somebody make a sig, just so we can advertise it, I would make one myself, but my laptop, as I've said many times is rubbish and all I have on it is MS-Paint.

We wouldn't really dare.

And I would help with the sig, but not only do I only have MS Paint, I'm also quite possibly the most artistically retarded person on the planet.

What am I joining now? Sorry, only read the Chuck bit Oh, a Myspace thing. Sorry, never got on that bandwagon. Never even looked at it even. Amazing really considering been using the internet since about 1991 and done pretty much everything else.

Although I did start Facebook a short time ago. Mainly though to throw sheep and naughty stuff at the bird. It's amazing how many programmers I've worked with who don't give a monkeys about this sort of thing (but love MUDs and the like). Pretty much all of them annoyingly.

I have Facebook too... Everyone complains about the applications, but it's not like you're forced to add them, and how many other sites can you have add-ons to challenge your friends to hobo fights?

I'm training my hobo up quite well at the moment, I think...

Hoestly though, probably a good idea if it does what it says on the tin, some interesting stuff pops up in geek culture, but it is annoying sifting through all the crap to find it. I'm pretty glad the mods have decided to do something about it, I mean its fine to have 1 or 2 game threads and the sort, but it was getting out of hand, like the whole geek culture board was turning into a "who can post the most retarded thread" board!

good idea anyhow!

I would, but being a perv with my bird on Facebook takes up enough time. And she doesn't exist on MySpace, so I would be pervless and sad. Bit like being beerless...

Oh they have World of Warcraft on palm-top now do they? I personally think you delude yourself too much in believing you rule the world (of warcraft) because you're the highest level in the game.

Also, there's a whole community of pervs on MySpace, it'll make you feel at home.

Well I think you prove Bill Bailey's point, the Welsh are certainly lazy.
