I don't know how well this goes with the new Geek Culture thread policy but here goes

Been playing Guitar Hero 2 for hours today. Those who have read my earlier posts know I've been hunting rank 3000 for GH2 expert on Score Hero and that rank 2500 is my goal before GH3 ships in Europe (23 Nov). I'm quite pleased with myself as I today have busted rank 2750 today (ranked 2732nd) I need another 400'000 points for rank 2500, and I may have to finally beat Jordan to get there (that's about 200'000 points just to beat it). Been playing through all the bonus songs today (except Jordan) and since most of my previous scores where really old I managed to grab over 50'000 points on a few of them. I'll be resting my fret hand this weekend.

Today's achievements:
Full combo (no misses) on Mr. Fix It (2x FC total)
Got the 4th star on Gemini and Less Talk More Rokk (2x 3-stars remains)
Got the 5th star on Thunderhorse.

Missing 20 stars total in GH2 expert!

If you wanna see my stats click here

There are 63 other songs then Jordan meaning a 6350 points improvement on each song will get me to the top 2500 (even the 2 songs I got full combo on have some points left in them). Well, I got a month left to GH3, a lot can happen

My brain have become numb from trying to FC Yes we can, which is quite horrible to listen to. I just can't seem to keep the proper rhythm. I finally played through Can't you hear me knockin' without a bunch of mistakes and also finally FCed Parasite.

I'm only playing a bit on songs that are easy on the hand today as it's in need of a rest. I've started doing stretchings and warmups lately and I think it's had a positive effect on my hand, it lasts longer

I noticed that they guy currently at rank 2500 have not yet beaten Jordan, he does beat me hands down on many songs. I still need about 370'000 points and I'm loosing like 1 rank every 2 hours or so. When GH3 ships in North America on Sunday morning I probably wont be dropping as much in ranks anymore

Well, what do you know. I actually got bored of playing Guitar Hero. I should have seen this coming but it happened quite suddenly. I was doing really well on Sunday, gaining over 100'000 points. My overall GH2 PS2 rank is 2629th, haven't dropped much since sunday.

5th star on Carry me home! (Quite amazing fret work from 4.1 to 5.1)
5th star on YYZ! (Barely from 4.9 to 5.0)
My best rank: 578th on Red lottery! (Everybody hate this song)

16 stars remaining!

It was raining today so instead of going to the store as I had planned I stayed home and played Guitar Hero 2. I'm currently ranked 2545th with 86,250 points to rank 2500. Click here to compare. I just got the 5th star on Free Bird and I almost got the 5th star on 3 other Face Melters today (4.9, 4.8, 4.8), not Misirlou though.

5th star on The light that blinds (4.8 to 5.0)
5th star on FREEEEEEE BIIIIIRD!!! (4.7 to 5.1)

14 stars remaining

How come your overall rank is 2545th? I thought from your posts you would have been some where near 100th. I also never knew the PS2 could go online :\

The scores/ranks I'm posting is for Guitar Hero 2, Expert mode on Play Station 2. The 360 version is separate. And no, GH2 on PS2 does not have an online leader board. I post my scores on a fan website called Score Hero (my scores).

There are currently 107'755 registered users, so I'm like top 2.5% of these. Many of the best players in the world are registered, there are millions of players world wide. Being in the top 1000 is quite an accomplishment. The best players in the world have made a full combo on almost all 64 songs (I have made 3). And as mentioned I have still 1 song left to even play through and missing 14 stars in the game (you are ranked with 3-5 stars for each completed song depending on your score).

Oh, and anyone else is free to post their Guitar Hero accomplishments if they wish to share

I have two songs left to beat on expert for Guitar Hero 3 Nowhere near as good as you, but I'm proud of myself.

I wish it was out here in Europe

With 2 songs left do you include bonus songs in that?

Through the Fire and Flames is a bonus song. It's so hard that none of the top players could beat it when they where invited to Neversoft

These are people who can almost FC Jordan while like 99% of all players can't even beat it. They play at least 10 hours per week and it's only a matter of time before they will FC Through the Fire and Flames as well

BTW, if you've not seen the music video have a look. The guitarists are pretty awesome. But in GH3 you also play the synth intro, which is pretty insane too. I love the solo that's about 3:25 into the video

Seen it. It's nice, but they've cut off some moments :-(
I've reminded myself of FoF and tried "Fury Of The Storm" (only expert level avaible) - ony 20-30 % (IMO this song should be in GH of "My Spirit Will Go On)

I think they got pretty much everything ever released by Gibson in GH2, there's loads of them. + there are a bunch of skins and 8 bonus guitars. In GH1 there's 1 bonus guitar. You might be lucky finding a list using Google.

XD I just got through a minute of 'Through the Fire and Flames' with my brother and two of his friends!!!! They each got one or two frets, and I got one and strummed on every note! We passed the intro, then I got through another 30 seconds and failed!

DA-Did you get 3? I'm a tad dissapointed by it to be honest, blazing through it on hard to start, on the second to last tier and the second tier on expert, I want some hard songs darnit, i'm not very impressed so far. But...the battle with slash and tom rocked socks.

'Closer', on expert.

And Zombie's right, GH3, at least in my oppinion, is not nearly as hard as I had hoped. I ws done with medium in a little over three hours, and it's only taken me barely over a week to get where I am:

Two songs left to beat on expert, minus bonus songs.
Five stars on the first four sets (twenty songs).

I really think it shoulda been more of a challenge...

The arseholes in retail haven't adjusted our prices yet, that's why. I would recommend anyone who lives near the US border to just drive across and buy the game in the States. If the retail stores here see enough of a drop they'll be forced to lower their prices.

It should cost maybe a bit more with shipping, but that's it.

The one's that really irritate me are the online vendors--- to buy 500 point on Xbox Live Arcade is something like $7.50 CDN but $5 US. Why? Why??? There's no shipping, no delivery or customs charges, etc. etc. If anything that should cost us less than in the US. But oh well

GH3 is not out in Europe yet, Nov 23... It's so unfair!

Jeku:
Any VAT in Canada? Here in Sweden we have 25% tax on most things we buy and even without things are more expensive due to shipping, translations (manual and cover) and limited demand.

We don't have VAT, but we have federal and provincial taxes. Everything in this province has a tax of 13% (6% federal, 7% provincial). It sucks, and is quite high, but clearly not as high as what you have

We have 12% on food (not served) and 6% on culture (books, magazines, concerts, cinema etc. but not on games )

The cheapest I could find GH3 (including shipping) in Sweden is about $60 with todays low USD. That's without a guitar.

I preordered GH3, hopefully I get it on Nov 22 as I'm busy on Friday. Playing Thursday, resting Friday and then playing again during the weekend is my plan

Zombie 20:
The timing for notes are looser in GH3 and the hammer-ons and pull-offs are also easier compared to GH2. While the songs are harder the end result is that the game itself is a bit too easy, from what I've heard. I really liked the GH2 settings.

DA- Me too, it is really irking me that I HAVE to play on expert to get a challenge, so I'm thinking where is the replay value once I tighten up my skills a little and begin acing all of the experts? Anything below will just get thrashed and therefore not really fun, so all thats left is to memorize and do preformance mode and walk around the house playing with no fret.

I just improved my scores on both Monkey Wrench (6.3 to 6.7) and Trogdor (5.5 to 6.3) with a lot and now I have less then 50'000 points up to rank 2500

Current rank: 2530

Zombie:
That's has to be impossible, playing with no fret

The hardest songs are probably found among the bonus songs. And if you are really good with GH2 it's not like you're gonna have a lot of problem beating GH3. Completing a song is much much easier then to 5 star it as you can use the star power to save your life instead of gaining score.

DA- Haha, I know I thought so too but I could play Radium Eyes and Woman on Hard with no fretboard up, its really cool. Yea it has not been difficult getting high rankings, however...I am in the last tier and let me tell you the songs will make you work but it is a fun time.

Personal Fav Song in Last Tier- Cliffs of Dover, very bluesy song, I love it.

Grats on your ranking, I don't do the whole star power for points stuff, I play so that the song sounds good..I love busting those solos lol. Played online with another guy on exper, man was that fun, only thing he had on me was sp and it was my first time playing the song he picked and I was matching him . The Boss Battles are well worth it and very fun, the cutscenes are funny too..its a good game, scratch that great game but you may feel that something is misssing..sort of the magic of gh2 and gh1.

Zombie:
You can't play a guitar without using frets, that would make a very boring song indeed

The style in GH3 is vastly different then GH1/GH2 that had a more easy going and fun style. I'm not too happy about Judy's face piercings or the look of the new HUD.

DA- Hahah yea its really only a showoff thing saying look what I can play with no screen .

Now about the difficutly, a few songs will stop you on expert and hard. Through the Fire and The Flames is EVIL, but also SEXY, now my song of choice to beat. I'm not a fan of what happened to judy either but I use lars so no biggie there. The style is noticable and it is really cool and they've done a good job. A lof of people complain about raining blood but there only doing it cause it whips them, its a really good challenge and you'll like it .

But yea the dragonforce song has to be the best challenge in the game..that and one and raining blood, grrr mosh 1 and mosh 2

PS2 - I'm not gonna jump on the anti-Sony bandwagon and say he should get a 360, just because it has online battles and score tables...

Actually I'd rather DA stuck to his PS2, it's not like I need yet another person who's better than me on XBL . I have gold stars on about 6 songs though, on easy, ohh and I've done about 15 songs on the hard difficulty - fear me indeed!.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...
