Kentaree:
On Score Hero you just sign up and enter your scores manually. It's pretty much built on trust and screenshots. I got a webcam set up to capture my TV so all my recent scores are backed with shots.

Van B:
On GH2 I got 100% on all songs on Easy and Medium a long long time ago I got plenty of 100% on Hard (only missing 1 star on Hard in GH1 (counting GH1, GH2 and 80s)). If I had the cash I wouldn't mind buying a 360 for better graphics, more songs and of course the online features. You may be missing out on the Encores though, like Rocks the 80s. 1 encore will be coming out for every year (or every version?).

Just to give you a bit of perspective, I'm currently 6,820,375 points behind the best GH2 PS2 Expert player, that's 46.8 % better then me

14,575,728 vs 21,396,103

It's a long way to the top. BTW, he's 16 and from Italy.

WOOHOO I just broke TOP 2500 !!!

Ranked 2495 and it's not even late yet. That makes it 789'536 points to top 2000... Guess I got to beat Jordan for that

Just looked at Mr. 2000, he have not beaten Jordan yet But he beats me on 43 of 63 songs... But I beat him on Six (the song) with over 20'000 points

If you live in US you can take part of the new official GH3 tournament and win your brand new Pontiac. It's not fair to the rest of the world but it shows how big GH is getting.

GH3 is not even out here for another 2 weeks, now that's unfair!

If there was ever anything that could help avoid piracy it's dropping the stupid delays, it's like Britain is some third world, half consideration. The even stupider thing is that we pay over the odds for our stuff just because they can't figure out exchange rates, it's enough to make you want to kill a bunch of people huh!.

Yeah, in all fairness, how much localisation does a game like Guitar Hero need? The largest part would be the manual no doubt.

With Activision backing up it really is odd that they could not make a more global launch. Guitar Hero is however much bigger in NA then EU, don't know about the rest of the world.

It took me about 35 minutes but I finally got a decent score on Shout at the devil, improving my score with almost 15'000 points (6.9 to 7.4). It go me ranked 898th on that song (my 3rd best rank) I was nearly going back above 2500

BTW, the numbers (6.9 to 7.4) indicates the star rank of my score. The game only gives out 3, 4 and 5 stars for completed songs but these are based on score multipliers and thus further ranks can be calculated. All songs except Monkey wrench can reach at least 7 stars, 20 can even go as far as 8 stars. This depends on how much star power you can collect and use to multiply your score for each song.

I just FC:ed Surrender on my 2nd try today! I must say I've become much better at hitting notes overall, no simple mistakes today. Anyway, on my first try I missed twice, once on the hardest part and once at the end of the song (where it's quite easy). So after completing the hardest part and doing everything else damn good I started getting nervous, I've tried so many times to FC Surrender as it's one of my favorite songs and not very hard. And now I was really scared of loosing at the end and my strum hand started sweating, not a good thing as you don't want to be slipping on your strums. But I did it as perfectly as I could with my abilities and managed a 558 rank which is my best!

I'm still shaking

Argh, Woman is a sour thumb in my eye! Of the Opening Licks I now got 2 in top 1000 and 2 in top 2000 but I'm ranked 4566th on Woman, which is my worst rank Only Woman and Less talk more rokk is ranked below 4000.

Zombie:
There's a lot of notes in that song, I wonder how many there are on expert Well, it's the first time they have a power metal song in GH and that's a pretty long one too.

Kentaree:
What difficulty are you playing on usually? If you want to improve faster you might want to skip Easy entirely, or at least stay away once you've completed or 5-stared every song. You need to get your pinky in shape with Normal and then move onwards.

Normal is my usual difficulty, I really wasn't able to do it, and just one day I picked up the guitar, tried a song, and I could I'm nearly finished Normal career mode, haven't really played it much the last few days (I've only got the game for a few weeks)

Kentaree:
You will find that every time you step up a difficulty you will encounter problems, it's not like the game was easy on the first try even on the easiest song on Easy. It's too easy to get too comfortable at a certain level. You have to learn new tricks each time. Well, Expert is kinda like Hard made harder so you only have to improve your existing skills (except for a few triple-chords).

Do you strum in one direction (like with your thumb?) or do you alt-strum? Alt-strumming (alternating up and down) is very helpful when you start playing on Hard and even more on Expert, although some top players down-strum a lot. I hold the strum-bar between my thumb and two fingers and alt-strum every note. It's hard at first but once you got it down right it's easier to keep rhythm and to play fast passages.

I down-strum at the moment, although I've already encountered situations where it would've come in useful. Do you actually use the "advanced techniques" like pull-offs and the other one which name I can't remember?

Hammer-ons and Pull-offs, these are a must if you want to do well on Expert. They where much harder to do in GH1 so it took me a long time to learn and to get used to. You should start doing some of those on Hard where they mostly consist of 2 or 3 notes. I can play quite long sections on Expert without strumming now, it gives quite a pleasant feeling to manage them. There was a really good player who drank a glass of water from the judges table with his strumming hand in a competition

WOOOHOOO! As my last song for today (and my 3rd try) I did a lot of right on Beast and the harlot and I really improved my score beyond the 5th star (4.9 to 5.4). Still only ranked 3000th on it. My overall is now 2424.

15 stars remaining!

Zombie:
They are supposed to be easier in GH3. You don't have to hit the next fret exactly right, you can just hold it in. Also hammer-on from a chord to a note doesn't even require you to release the lower fret. From what I've heard.

Well, walmart is still sold out of GH3
Anyway, question to someone who has it: is it true that in GH3 you can't hold the fret button down for a series of notes of the same color? thats what my friend said (who stayed up til midnight to buy the game , then beat it in 3 days...)

I highly doubt that, that would make the game unplayable.

GH3 plays almost exactly the same as GH2, if anything I'd say GH3 is a bit more forgiving, like I seemed to get 100% (medium diff) really easily on Even Flow, that might be because it's one of my favorite songs and I've heard it hundreds of times, but it's like you don't have to be so accurate. I certainly play it the same way I play GH2, I always hold the note down and strum.

One thing for sure is that the window for strumming notes are longer in GH3 compared to GH2, which definitely makes the game easier to play.

Been improving my scores on the easier songs lately and with good result. Among other things I've finally added another 10'000 points to Mother (still ranked below 4000) and added a big boost to War Pigs. This have resulted in me passing top 2400 but I'm also ranked in the top 2000 for the first 4 tiers I still only got a 5.8 on Mother (up from 5.5) but hopefully with some practice I should be able to improve that soon.

BTW, adding your scores to Score Hero really helps you improve as you start seeing your own rank and how you compare to other players. It keeps me motivated and I can recommend it to all of you (even if you have no camera).

OKay, I got GH3 finally on friday. Been playing that quite a bit in my free time, I got to the final set today and got stuck on raining blood and one. btw, I just played it on expert, the other levels are kind of a waste of time...

About the fret button thing, it turns out he was talking about the boss battles, where you get an attack that requires you to push the fret button repeatedly before you can use it (broken string?)

Guitar Hero is all about electric guitars so the music genres are rock, hard rock and some metal If there's no good guitar play in a song then it would be quite boring to play. You won't find much MTV in it I'm afraid (which I don't like anyway). Most people seems to like a few songs at first and then the rest kinda grows on them as they get used to the music. I thought GH2 had a bad set list at first (GH1 is a bit more main stream) but now I like all but a handful songs

Since GH2 I have a new appreciation for Rush, Heart, Lynard Skinard - but with GH3 there's some undeniable classics which are probably there due to customer demand (Even Flow, Paint it Black, One) - if you don't like these songs then you'd be better off buying a dance mat, just stay away from any kind of guitar . I don't like the cheesy 60's songs on GH2 though, I mean there's a few that I just don't like playing because they grind on my nerves.

From what I've heard of the GH3 set list there are some oldies that I would have replaced with some other oldies. Like I got Cities on flames on a rock compilation CD set but there are like 15 other songs I would have used instead. From GH2 I like all the regular songs (except maybe Psychobilly freakout, which is extremly difficult to play on Expert), and really the only songs I'd rather be without are Red lottery and Yes we can.

Rule for writing Lynyrd Skynyrd: replace all vowels with Ys

Ok, so my latest achievements:

I finally did pretty well on Woman (5.8 to 6.8) and now have a top 2000 rank on it. Brining my Opening Licks rank to top 1500

My rank on String-Snappers is now in the top 1500 as well and I also got Return of the Shred to top 2000. That gives me Tier 1 & 3 in top 1500 and Tier 2, 4 & 5 in top 2000

Of all first 5 tiers (25 songs) only 8 songs are now ranked below top 2000 and only Killing in the name is ranked below top 2500 (ranked 2592)

Overall I have reached top 2300 (ranked 2263)

And I would like to add:

More then 15'000'000 points WOOOT!

Trippin' On a Hole in a Paper Heart ranked 963rd, a 7.4 star-rank

Relentless Riffs (Tier 6) top 2000

I got Jessica and Stop to work on tomorrow and then it's Furious Fretwork (Tier 7) where I have a 3355 rank. I've been beaten back to 4021st on YYZ (was 399X before). I wonder if I can make top 2500 for the tier I only got 3 stars on Psychobilly Freakout.

Good to know

Satchmo:
It takes a bit getting used to, especially if you have never played a real guitar or rhythm game before. Between each difficulty setting there's a bit of a gap so you kinda have to go through a similar process for each

OBese87:
Now that you mention it, I have seen images of fretless guitars before. It's kinda overkill

Ranked top 2200 overall (2158th)

Tier 5 - Furious Fretwork: top 3000 (2767th)

Carry Me Home: top 2000 (1821st)

3500 points from the 4th star on Psychobilly Freakout

A while back I noticed that in addition to the spots of hardened skin on my index and pinky fingers from sliding I have developed a bit of thick skin on my thumb from the bone twisting against the guitar neck, guess I won't hurt that part again

WOOOOOOOOOOT!!!! TOP 2000!!!

Started on Girlfriend today but did poorly. Moved on to Jessica, messed up early and replayed it; ended up improving my score with 21'000! Then I thought I should give Trogdor another go since I started to get the hang of it yesterday and on the 2nd try I got a 16'000 improvement! That's a 7.1 on Trogdor BTW That's all for today.

Now I'm ranked 1997!

BTW, I got 15 songs with a star rank of 7.0 or higher

Guitar Hero 3 just came in through my door I wish I didn't sprain my ankle last Saturday (which is why I'm home to receive it), after walking around a lot yesterday it hurts quite a bit today. I've signed up for the Expert league on Score Hero, will see how I'll do against the rest.

Yesterday I had dropped to 2008 but by improving my Strutter score from 7.0 to 7.2 I'm now back at 1997 again
