Dude, it just keeps getting better and better, the lighting, the level design, entities, sounds, honestly, it is all flawless from what I can tell now that you got rid of the copter, ceiling fan and spotlight. This is looking like DOOM 3 done in FPSC, work Nomad Soul.
One sujestion though, in the first room with the ship hovering in it. Is there an opening at the top of the room, it would be weird if a ship was just hovering there, there should be an opening either in the ceiling or at the top of the wall, that way it's like the ship came in and dropped you off.

Keep it up.

Hopefully I can do as good with my game.

P.S. Are the segments in the game custom made by you, if not, I'd like to know where I could find them. If they are, good job, they're awesome.

PHOENIX, an up-coming game by Troy Chambers!!!

Woah! AE's back!

I took a look at the second screenshot first, and actually thought you posted a pic of Doom 3 for a sec. Good job.

I would use different ceiling lights (you have the ones from model pack 3, and they look bad (no offense, the lighting is always messed with them). If you wait until Saturday, though, I can whip you up a nice illumination map and new .fpe to use with it, which would make it look a bazillion times better.

EDIT:

Seeing how good this is doing, I can also give you my retexture of the model pack 3 gantry, which is silver metal, and would probably fit more into the environment.

, or make some windows, then have a ship on the outside looking like its flying around up there (outside of the windows)

Yes! a playable Super-Turkey Puncher arcade game will be there. Would be interested to see how Inspires idea works. Best I can think of is implementing this with an alt texture for the arcade cabinet screen with custom sound effect when would at least simulate gameplay.

Quote: "Is there an opening at the top of the room, it would be weird if a ship was just hovering there"

The ceiling area above the ship is currently sealed so perhaps I'll open that up to show it has flown in.

Quote: "Are the segments in the game custom made by you"

I've made all of the segments using Signs and freely available textures.

Quote: "If you wait until Saturday, though, I can whip you up a nice illumination map and new .fpe to use with it"

That would be awesome Inspire, i'll look forward to seeing the difference. Thanks

Quote: "I can also give you my retexture of the model pack 3 gantry, which is silver metal, and would probably fit more into the environment"

Very generous. I'll send you an email. Again thanks, that sounds like an essential retexture.

Quote: "where are you planning on getting the characters?"

Well the grunts shouldn't be too much work, maybe a retexture for some spookier eyes etc and a retextured fat zombie for the moment. I definately need to start thinking about an imp. I'll start looking around for anything free I might be able to adapt.

Thanks for all the feedback and positive comments. It's cool to make changes on the fly from thread comments and see the improvement.

Well, my idea involved it being off at first, then when it's turned on (however they did in Doom 3, I forgot), you would be able to play the game (no score though, just the player punching a turkey and it dying). I don't know for sure how well my idea will work or not, but as far as I know, it's a pretty nice work around.

Quote: "retextured fat zombie"

Ugh, the fat zombies walk so weird. Some body should make a pack with slower, creepier zombies. Actually, how does the fat zombie look with really low speed?

yeah those zombies from model pack 4 would've been ok if the waliking animations were better, especially the cop and the surgion, zombies dont walk like that at all! the nurse walk was kinda cool, like it really had broken legs and the arms swang freely with no muscle control.

back on topic- since the zombies in doom 3 had orange jumsuits, you could bloody up the prison inmates from mp4 and give them a custom zombie animation, because they had orange jupsuits.
the imp is probably the only problem, and the hellknights. i am sorry but i cant help you on that. but if you do find a hellknight somewhere, let me know.

"hmm" ; 'walk walk walk' ; "roar, my life wont let me watch the game and now i shall take it out on YOU,roar!" ; <--- = [}

Well then people should scream more often if these textures
are used...
Since they can be used for commercial and non-commercial...but!

You would have to buy a license to use them:
Non-commercial = $10.
Commercial = $100.

And not all of the textures are available for licensing...

I am not accusing you...since you could have bought the license..

No to both questions. I haven't paid for wall or floor textures as yet and haven't amended them from portfolio websites either. All of the wall and floor textures have been obtained from websites giving away free samples or FPSC model packs.

The 1 texture which everyone is talking about in the last 2 screenshots posted came from my 'FPSC downloads' folder which means I would have downloaded it directly from the forums at some point.

Thanks for providing the link though. I'm contacting the site owner for a paypal link for the $10 non commercial license. I'll probably get a couple more while I'm at it.

Quote: "You would have to buy a license to use them"

$10 per texture is ok given the time it will save me painting something similar myself. I'll continue trying to find free samples which are usable to avoid paying development costs for a free demo.

Quote: "you could bloody up the prison inmates from mp4 and give them a custom zombie animation, because they had orange jupsuits"

Great idea!, I hadn't thought of that. This kind of thing is really helping me to get through the development considerations that need to be made.

hey dude im here to help. i also have some other suggestions:

for the weapons-1)BFG:turn the autoslug blue and green and give it a REALLY high damage 2)chainsaw:make one and give me a copy 3)plasma rifle: turn the tavor blue and light blue.

since there are marine zombies you could do the same thing you did to the mp4 prison inmates, but do it to colonel X. cus he kinda lookeed like a human marine from doom3

download Firma 2.0 from http://www.fpsfiles.com, just go to downloads-tools- then firma2.0; this makes segments for fpsc and is just as easy to use. i found a lot of good doom3 style things to make on there

since you have to go outside sometimes. set the sky in Build Game to sci fi-WRP, it looks like mars

Hey Nomad, before I do the Turkey Punching game and the illumination map, I have something else I need to work on as a favor, and to learn how to animate in Blender before I help you, for obvious reasons.

@Chees hed

I'll definately check out the BFG idea and will be doing re textures for characters as progress is made. The bulk of this will be done after the portal incident.

I've downloaded Firma 2.0 but not used it yet mainly due to using Signs for so long but I've read good things so I'll check it out.

@Inspire

Thats fine man, really appreciate the metal gantry re texture you've already provided me with. I've redone the gantries in the lobby area with it and they look great. I also applied your texture to the metal gantry stairs to match which can be seen in the attached screenshot.

Look forward to any updates from you as and when.

It works for any of the gantry variants in MP3.

The lighting needs a bit of work. The light that the screen cast shouldn't create a shadow behind it, and the hanging warehouse light from MP3 cast a very large shadow on the ceiling. The level design is pretty tasty though.

To make the imps and hell knights you could use cheese cake's pack(whick looks amazing) His models would make good demons. I've tried to make a Doom 3 remake before but gave up.Mostly because of the level design. I retextured the original thug for my zombies. i don't have mp4 but i bet the inmate would be better. Good Luck and looking amazing!Keep it up

here is the zombie retexture i made.

@General Powell 11- The Zombies in DOOM 3 wore orange jumpsuits and stuff, the re-texture is to make the zombies look like the DOOM 3 ones.

@Vorg1- Is it possible I could get that retexture from you as well.

I really like it, it's very well done. And I could really use that in my game(offtopic)

Nomad Soul, keep it up dude, this game is looking better every time you post a screeny, when you get more work done post another vid, I think I speak for everyone when I say, "Let's See Your Awesome Work In Action."

Keep it up.

Also, I noticed your using Smitho's flashlight, I downloaded his no-hands torch, but I don't know where to export it, could you tell me where to export it???

Yes the texture is free for anybody to use. I don't really care. It was done really quick. If you have dds convertor you can convert the jpg to dds or tga and import it into fpsc or you can use photoshop to convert it to tga. i post the dds anyway.

No. I'm using a mixture of both stock and custom segments and entities. Most room segments are custom except for the model pack 5 scifi. I'm using some gantries and stairs from model pack 3 which now includes a custom metal texure provided by Inspire.

Entities are mainly from FPSC model packs but some custom e.g. spaceship, flashlight, ceiling windows and most recently the custom zombie texture provided by Vorg1.

Quote: "To make the imps and hell knights you could use cheese cake's pack(whick looks amazing)"

I'd love to get my hands on Cheese Cake's monster model pack but I don't think it's available yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong as it looks superb and would definately fit the purpose.

Quote: "here is the zombie retexture i made."

Many thanks. The texture speaks for itself, amazing and I'm very grateful as will many others be.

Quote: "when you get more work done post another vid"

Will post another vid as soon as I've finished the first level. I'm getting there but still some work to be done.

Quote: "I downloaded his no-hands torch, but I don't know where to export it, could you tell me where to export it???"

You need to place the torch files folder in gamecore/guns. Then either download the torch entity provided in Smithos thread or just use the WW2 stock one, then open the .fpe for which ever torch entity you choose and refrence the torch folder in the 'isweapon' field.

Quote: "where do i put the texture?"

Vorg1's texture is a re texture for the stock thug character from WW2 stuff. I've made a copy of the files for thug_unarmed and renamed to zombie_thug then amended the .fpe to reference his texture.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone and for the generous contributions and advice. As you can see I'm taking this on board and implementing where possible.

I couldn't help uploading a couple of screenshots following Vorg1's cool zombie texture which also show Inspire's re texture for the gantries.

@Vorg1- will the retexture work with the zombie character as well that's in the sci-fi section, or in MP2 or 4. Because, obviously if it's a thug retexture, it's not gonna behave like a zombie.

I really don't know about the mp textures since i don't have either of the model packs. But if the models have the same uv coordinates as the thug then they should work. The original zombie texture I know doesn't work but it has same animation set as the thug. I bet that the model pack zombies would work a ton better though .

Unfortunately I haven't completed Doom3 yet but have seen a youtube video of the final boss. Fortunately for the time being I'm only doing a few levels from mars city but there will be an amazing boss fight.

Quote: "I was wondering what are you doing about those little robots that guide you and unlock doors for you."

Yeah I tried setting up a sequence for one of these and it worked ok. I could get the droid to successfully navigate to a particular door etc but couldn't open doors independently and won't wait for the player if they don't go straight after it. Apart from that I could use a remote trigger to open a particular door and get a droid to take you there potentially.

Thanks S4Real. I particularly like the Col retexture that will definately feature in the demo, it looks awesome.

Apologies there has been a delay in any updates recently. I've spent the last few weeks building a custom PC and learning how to use Vista or rather how to not use Vista in order to accomodate FPSC X10.

I couldn't resist trying it out and currently considering moving this demo into X10 development as full scene bump mapping and fully dynamic shadows for characters were significant features in Doom3 which X10 provides out of the box.

In any case, attached is another in game screenshot.

Also I wanted to try and get something playable out for xmas so here is a link to a playable demo for everyone to check out and test on their systems for performance etc:

Download file size: 125meg (compressed from 328)
Remeber to move exe out of compressed folder, I don't think it will run from the archive and latest directx 9.0c need to be installed.

Finally. For anyone that might still be on a dialup connection, here is a link for updated youtube video:

Happy xmas to everyone and hope to provide updates on X9 / X10 development for this demo soon.
