I know he said IMO several times, but i would like to point out exactly what a game is...:

All of this in my opinion, eh, to be politically correct.

@n008:
That could be, but personally, I find that like saying that organized walking around is a sport because you use physical means to achieve a set goal within set rules.

Games for me have a certain borderline of a 'feeling of use' and 'immersion'. A certain emotional connection. All those little games give me more of a feeling of uselessness and something to fill my time with. I'm not saving the princess, I'm not saving the world. I'm not evolving a species. I'm not in the game - I'm an external influence.

A true videogame, for me, must allow me to be 'there' instead of sitting, playing little games on my computer. I need to be an integral part of the experience. Need to be connected in a way. Tetris lacks this, Bejeweled lacks this, a lot of little games lack this.

A true videogame, for me, nowadays has a goal which I feel I múst complete, besides a high-score.

Therefore, an intense and well-made arcade shmup can actually be a game, while for example, Tetris is a passtime.

Quote: "I was just reminded of fighting games, of which can take 2 minutes to play. Are they real games?"

If they aren't real games, I'm in deep trouble lol, we've sunk nearly two years into Capital Punishment, MISoft's 2D comedy fighting game based on US politics, which is soon going to get an official announcement here on TGC with the first publically-available screenshots in the WIP boards. Me? Plug? Never!

I think there's a popular misnomer that females don't play "hardcore" games. They only play casual games or easygoing games like Sims 2 and World of Warcraft, games that don't take great amounts of skill to play. A long time ago that was largely (but not entirely) true, back in the days when "gamers" were often characterized as wearing glasses with tape on the nose piece and pocket protectors to guard our scientific calculators and mechanical pencils from the elements. Then a few games came along that changed that and made games more mainstream, like Myst, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Doom... and yes, the first Sims game, which easily did more for the audience of the gaming industry than all of those games I mentioned before had done combined. Note that I said "audience" there, and that I'm not saying the Sims did more for games in general, lol.

That being said, it's rather common to find females playing games that ten years ago were made up of largely male audiences. Fire up a game from the Battlefield Series, or Rainbow Six, or Civilization IV, and I guarantee you won't be able to go ten rounds on any server without running into female players. But guys tend to alienate and annoy female players, so a lot of them (many of the females I know, in fact) try to avoid letting others know what gender they belong to to avoid these pitfalls. And don't forget that a screenname doesn't necessarily need to be "Strawberry Shortcake 123" for its user to be a female. One of the girls I know who plays BF42 uses the screen name "Robotron." Not all girls played with Barbie Dolls as a youngster

Anyway, back to the Sims... does anyone know any good free modding websites that have objects using "Maxis colors?" Preferably vehicles? I downloaded the Ford Focus, Fusion, and Mustang from the Sims 2 website, made officially by Maxis, but can't find other vehicles to download to the game. And I hate mods that don't look like they normally belong in the game, know what I mean? Mods that look more like a photograph than the cartoony assets the Sims has un-modded.

Heh, the only game where I run into females a lot are MMORPG's. They're more and more females gaming, and that's a good thing - but they certainly don't outnumber the males... not yet.

OK. Lets not slide to unnecessary land, and keep on topic. I know Jeku you are just saying that there are lots of females on second life, but surely by now you should know one comment like that makes a whole new topic.

Can we split this topic down the middle maybe?

One post about TS2, another about girls.

Deathead , you didn't even start this thread, Matt himself is even keeping with the flow of this thread, we'll be happy to discuss the sims further if there's anything new to bring up.

Anyway, it's definitely true about the casual games bringing in a lot of women. But I do know one girl who bought a wii, she said she used to play games but fell out of it, but when the wii came out she had to buy one

Another girl I know plays a lot of civ/sim-city type games.

Too bad there's still a lot of people who kinda look at you funny when you say you play video games :o) Their loss I guess!

The only hardcore gamer that i know that is female is my sister .

All of the others just play online games once in a while.

No, i take that back, my girlfriend's little sister is addicted to runescape .

He doesn't need to bring anything new to bring up. As he said he wanted you to post if you found some hidden stuff. As quoted...
Quote: "Has anyone else found cool hidden stuff in the sims? If so, how do you do it? I heard you can get abducted by aliens, but I don't know how or why they abduct you, or even if they actually do. I also heard they can make your sim pregnant with an alien baby, but again, haven't actually seen it. Just figured I'd ask

Well, nothing bad about females playing more real videogames. I welcome the whole development.

??? There are just as many females that play video games as there are males .

That's really ignorant and sexist!

Um, read the post before mine before making a judgment.

Second Life is an MMOG so I was just stating the fact.

As far as I am aware, many many females (Lol, we're calling them 'females') play MMOs

Don't stress it deathhead, we can discuss both topics. As long as they both remain intellectual, it doesn't bother me at all.

Well, yea. There IS a difference between a girl and a woman. So to be more general, you say 'female'. Same goes with 'male'.

If female means girl or woman, I think Britney got stuck somewhere in the middle.

Britney doesn't count. creatures from her planet don't really classify as "male" or "female." I'm pretty sure Britney is asexual. IE, she can mate with herself and produce offspring. Paris Hilton is from the same planet (or maybe one of its moons, anyone know for sure?), and Carson Daily is as well. Not sure who I'm missing here, I'm sure there's more from that planet (or it's moons). What I don't get, people complaining about illegal immigrants, but then they buy their kids a Britney Spears CD? I mean come on, she's from a different planet, let alone a different country, why is she exempt?

I asked a few girls about this. One of them plays Gears of War online, but delights in the whimsy of Viva Pinata. One of them plays solitaire and bejeweled, etc. on her computer. The other two gave me funny looks.

I tried ten:

- One is a gamer, playing anything from the Sims to Metroid.
- One plays World of Warcraft + pass-times (Sims with cheats only is not a game).
- Six playing Solitaire, Bejeweled, ect.
- Two telling me that's boys-stuff, stupid and they've got better things to do (yes, those were your cliché my shoes don't match with my right middlefingernail).

Back to the sims for a bit:

I'm desperately searching for decent cars to download. Anyone know of any good resources for this? They need to start selling cars in the "Stuff" packs, like maybe an "automotive stuff" expansion, but with a cooler title.

You know rolfy's car? The burnt one you could add that to the sims 2. But you may need a file converter. That or you could google Sims 2 Cars.

I tried googling more cars, I found some dicey mods at modthesims2.com, I don't know that I feel entirely safe adding them though, with the fourth generation of my sims kicking about right now, lol.
