Yes, it's called notepad! And it doesn't even have a donation button! If you have windows its FREE.

Seriously though, ask your question with a little more thought. There are plenty of free programs capable of building websites, but most of them require some knowledge of web programming. I don't know of any point and click site builders that are free, so you will have to use Google.

Warning: Please be advised. Geek Culture is under lockdown. All mods are set to Indi mode. Any and all topics WILL BE LOCKED. Post at your own risk!

Personally I dont really like the website builders because most of the time they dont have all the features and stuff that you want. If you really want I could probably make a website for you pretty quick. Just email me at fitzgibbon4957@yahoo.com if you interested. It wont be the best ever but its something. No Flash though or I want Pay.

Hey Robert. I would be interested in that offer. Just need a PHP/ASP database CMS site with available templates for each page. I need it to be futuristic, layed out totally in CSS (no tables please) and with all sorts of cool stuff on it. No Flash, I don't wan't to pay.

You know what im just going to take back my offer, unless you want it to take a while.

See i was just thinking he was just going to want a simple html site, but i wasn't really sure at the same time.

They're the same person, it appears. They share the same e-mail address. It appears as if Corky is Robert F's sadistic puppet.

I dont know why but that just made me laugh really hard.

I made a thread about why I changed my name, they understood, then I told them to lock it but they just deleted it.

$400 is just a little to much for this sadistic puppet here.

Heh, no problem if you changed your name, just avoid using both profiles. Can lead to painful things like above.

The $400 comment was sarcastic. Dreamweaver is too expensive for most of us, honestly.

I would prefer Nvu if I wanted a WYSIWYG, Bluefish Editor for regular coding. Both free. Bluefish is Linux only, but Nvu has cross-platform bins.

INH, I got a couple untested sticks of DDR 333 (PC 2700), I think they're 256mb each, I have no idea what to do with them, (most systems need at least ddr 400). But if you're running at a 533fsb you should find it useful

I wouldn't charge you anything for em (unless you wanna do a trade for some of that software), if you want em I can post em to you from out here in the states, just let me know.

Ugh, who uses notepad to script or program? At least use notepad++ so you got some syntax highlighting :o)

PSPad is a nice tool for web design in Windows. Provides syntax highlighting for quite a few languages. It doesn't have much in the way of drag and drop, but it's awesome for hand coding stuff.

In fact I have never met someone in person who uses Notepad for their websites. What a waste of time. PSPad, as has been mentioned, is a pretty good text editor. A good editor has things we take for granted--- syntax highlighting, auto-indenting, etc.

Heh, nope. I still use Notepad. I don't know why - I do my PHP and the like in external editors, but I just never got used to anything else than Notepad for websites. Maybe I oughta try again.

I do, simply because it is better than frontpage, and I can't be bothered to get anything better.

I was asked a similar question about free Web page editors a while ago. This is what I sent to them but I am not sure if the links or products are still active:
----------
One which has received very good reviews is called NVU. It was written as a free alternative to DreamWeaver I believe and has a lot of the same features. Check out their Web site here:
http://nvu.com/index.html
I haven't tried it myself yet but there are lots of people saying it is stable and reliable and has features missing in both Frontpage and DreamWeaver. Definately worth a look at.

There is an unofficial spin-off version of NVU called KompoZer which they say has some bugs fixed and other features added. If you have problems with NVU or like it but want more features, you can try this one:
http://www.kompozer.net
(Make sure you download the file marked 'Win32 binary' or you could end up with a pile of source code!)

SeaMonkey is apparently quite good too. Its from the people behind the FireFox Web browser (Mozilla). I think its a much more up to date version of an old Web page editor I used long ago called Composer which was part of Netscape. Its supposed to be similar to a Word Processor to use so should be pretty easy. Plus, as with most Mozilla products, I think there are lots of free plugins to do extra stuff if you need them. You can get it and find out more here:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/

Another freeware Web editor is Trellian WebPage. Again, I haven't used it myself but it looks okay and has interesting tools built in. It does come from a commercial company so even though they say its free, be aware they may try and sell you other products.

That just doesn't make sense, to be blunt. For one thing, indenting is a hassle in Notepad. Also, there's nothing built-in, i.e. FTP, etc. Using Notepad to make a website doesn't prove anything more than you're a masochist

I'm all for no-nonsense text editors too, but there's tons of free text editors that are actually usable.

Which doesn't matter when you're testing on the local machine.

I can do PHP in notepad up until the point that I need line numbers. I find Notepad++ more useful for this reason and that it doesn't mess up line breaks like notepad does.

IMO it's not really that much more effort than installing a text editor, as long as you find an installer that does it all for you. It saves having to upload the page every time you edit it, which is especially nice if you don't have internet access. To each his own I guess.

Not particularly painful to do so when your editor does it automatically on a page change:o)

I'm one to make updates on the fly, so having an editor update the server for me is nice. Of course, most people would argue that that's bad practice.

Still, it'd be like coding in darkbasic or c or java or whatever in notepad. It makes no sense when you can use an editor that offers syntax highlighting, code completion, syntax lookup, etc etc.

In college they tried to pull that notepad junk on us students.. I chose to download and use an editor, press f5 and it automatically executed the script, now that was handy, compared to everyone else using notepad.

They'd all look at me jealous when they saw how I was coding
