Hello all, I've started working on a new game I am calling Nuclear Sky. The game will depict the breakout of world war 3... on US soil! The plot is as follows:

"The Green Party came to power in West Germany, forcing the removal of U.S. forces from that nation and all nuclear weapons from Europe. The resulting upheaval left NATO as a political nonentity, with only Britain remaining as a U.S. ally. At the same time, Soviet allies Cuba and Nicaragua each expanded their armies to 500,000 men, subsequently overrunning El Salvador and Honduras. A civil war in Mexico resulted in that country falling behind the Communist "Iron Curtain." In a parallel to Operation Barbarossa, the Soviet Union, like Nazi Germany, now had a broad base from which to invade its primary enemy, and thousands of troops from satellite nations to augment their own armies.

During this time, the Soviet Union was suffering its worst wheat harvest in 55 years and food riots were occurring throughout the nations of the Warsaw Pact. Apparently desperate for food to feed its people, the Soviet Union and its allies launched a full scale invasion of the United States.

The Soviets utilize a three-phase attack. First, they use strategic nuclear strikes to destroy key points of communication including several major U.S. cities (Omaha, Kansas City and Washington, D.C. are specifically cited). Strategic nuclear weapons are also used to destroy ICBM bases in Montana and the Dakotas. In addition, it is hinted that Cuban infiltrators aid in confusing U.S. forces by raiding Strategic Air Command bases throughout the Midwest and Texas. Coupled with these nuclear attacks, Soviet transport aircraft containing elite Soviet VDV and Cuban paratroopers slipped through the U.S. radar disguised as commercial airliners.

The second phase saw Cuban and Nicaraguan armies (with small contingents of Soviet forces) pouring across the U.S.-Mexico border into the Great Plains of the United States. The third phase involved a Soviet invasion of Alaska across the Bering Strait from Siberia. They crossed into Canada occupying the Yukon, British Columbia and Western Alberta, most likely including Calgary, and cut the Alaskan Pipeline, but were decisively stopped at the U.S.-Canadian border by U.S. forces

Once the lines are stabilized, it quickly becomes a conventional war with both sides ceasing their use of nuclear weapons. The Soviets are reluctant to use any more nuclear weapons, as they want to conquer the United States, not destroy it utterly, and the U.S. government is unwilling to use tactical nuclear weapons on or over their own soil against the invading armies."

The plot is based off of the movie Red Dawn. But unlike Red Dawn which takes place in the early days of WW3, Nuclear Sky will take place in the later years. Many small groups of americans have bound together and formed and underground division known as the "Brotherhood of Aequitas." This division carries out many covert-ops and is well hidden beneath the earth's surface. You play the role of Steven Biggs, a well rounded soldier part of the brotherhood.

Here are some screens..

At the moment I'm in a hurry so I will post more later

Good story and nice screens. You may want to put some roofs on those outdoor buildings. They all look pretty flat and short on top.

Quote: "The resulting upheaval left NATO as a political nonentity"

That was inevitable. LOL

Quote: "slipped through the U.S. radar disguised as commercial airliners."

It would have been easier to just drive troops across the border in trucks labeled "Illegal Immigrant Transporters, Inc".

Nice job so far.

Best.

I can see you read up on your history. But why would Russia attack the US, after being beaten a matter of years ago? Why not target another country, or better yet: trade? But these observations are petty and the level design is solid, so I say "kudos"!

thanks for the comments guys, I'll post a few screens pretty soon but I have a question, what is a good size for an image to be shown on a story zone? My images keep getting stretched pretty bad and its hard to read any of the words, anyone know a solid size for an image?

@Twitch tweak

The water in that first screen looks...unrealistic.....I take it you're using water segments, not decals?

Otherwise, everything looks great! Loving the second screen!

Also, the best image size is 1024 x 768...(Height x Width).....

hey coffee thanks for the tips, and as for the water, yeah at the moment I just laid down down water segments because the water decals I tried using werent showing up. I'm working on getting some more realistic water. Those segments are temporary dont worry

I suggest EFX Mod for better water.. it can slow down framerate though. Great looking game btw Really looking forward playing it.

This looks nice! This would happen to be my first post, but I can still recognise a good game.

Can't wait for that demo!

I think it looks great. It's quite detailed and the lighting works well! Good luck with this project.

By the way, just out of interest, what packs have you got?

Yeah, some of that movie inspired Kola. Only the killing Russian mercenaries part, though. It was a nice movie, overall.

Back on topic, Nuclear Sky looks very, very nice. Any tips on creating an industrial level, twitch tweak?

endless fps - yes Im using 3 also, I typed in a 3 and accidentally hit backspace and didnt type it again.

Urlforce - WOLVERINES!! Ya man the main idea of the war is based off the war in Red Dawn, but the story that Steven Biggs (the guy you play) will follow another trail.. You'll have to play the game to get the idea

AI - Thanks, and Kola is comming along great btw.. As far as an industrial level goes I'd say the small entities really make a difference. Such as the little red bricks and debris that I have scattered throughout the alleys, they really bring the level to life. Also a good idea for anyone making an industrial level is to take a quick ride down to one of ur cities busy streets and just walk down the sidewalk and look down any alleys, you'll really get some idea to go with from there

Puppy - Josh Hartnett (Eversmann) says it near the end of the movie. He is sitting, talking partially to himself and his fallen comrade.
