Better yet, take a hash of each file that's uploaded. If a new file being uploaded matches the banned hash the upload fails.

Also, note, it's not best to post your piracy blocking methods publicly, because pirates can find it and work out ways around the system

Hurray for teh logd!

Hmm, when I start to get a large filebase then I might consider doing something like that.

Lets all get uploading then

I've already posted 3 small zips earlier this week, and will be posting 2 more this weekend.

And thanks for this site vernon, Its ideal for posting dark basic programmes/games, and MUCH better than Attachmet them on the forum posts due to download counter

God. How much disk space your server has?

500GB - soon upgrading to 4TB so I have a lot of space to host this - http://scripts.verongames.com.

Every now and then the page freezes. But other than that and the glitch on the top ten files, its great!

PS: the top ten files - the number one instant play blocker with 82 dl's is mine.

I have to shut down Internet explorer whenever it happens, and it only happens in the beginning of the page loading. Hope that helps.

Hmm, is it on every page, or always on the same page, and also, what version of IE? In IE7 I get nothing like that happening.

when i used IE any page would freeze and i had to restart IE. The only way to stop it is to get a new browser.

Yes, I have IE7, and it happens on every page. But only every now and then. The website is fine sometimes.

Ok guys, a lot of progress has been made on the new Veron Upload. The browser freezing errors should be fixed now, you can password protect uploaded files, and leave a description for them.

You can also create an account now (still free), and i'll probably have some sort of extra members features in later.

Uploading now shows the speed the file is uploading at, the size of the file being uploaded, and the time remaining/elapsed of the upload.

You can upload multiple files at once using a flash uploader, and you can upload files from FTP, or a remote address. You can email yourself, and others, the download links through the form at the bottom of the page as well.

Anyway, all this stuff is going to be added in, as well as a new site design, over the coming days/week.

Not while the file is being uploaded, but the server and everything on it is scanned daily for any viruses/malware/spyware that may be in the uploaded files.

But live during uploading, no.

If you have the power in your server to do it effectively, a scan of uploaded files, immediately after they've been uploaded, could be a good idea? I'm not knowledgeable in things of this nature, so just wondering if that's doable.

Ok guys - VeronVideo is done. I'm buying a new 4TB server to host it on, but for private beta testing purposes, i've popped it up on a quick free domain, until I get my server.

So, check it out at - http://vtest.meektube.com/veronvideo

All videos uploaded to it might be lost in the server transfer from this crap free subdomain over to the large 4TB server, so try not to upload a lot. The server will be coming in the next month, ready to roll (hopefully).

Please report all bugs in the thing, it's at beta stage still, so I expect there to be a fair few, but I already found a lot, and fixed them.

VeronUpload is coming along nicely, albeit slowly.

I have a valid question:

Why are you doing this? Surely this is costing you vast money out of your own pocket? Do you have a business model for this?

I like this service alot but I don't see how this can be maintained.

Well, the first reason to do it would be to improve my skills, coding wise, and management wise.

Secondly - to help the community, and provide a decent service, and to get my name out there.

Thirdly - fun! Having a site which eventually will (hopefully) have lots of videos is great to be able to design, own and manage.

Fourthly - revenue! There's not much doubt in my mind that if this gets large enough i'll be able to add in some advertisements on the page, which will generate some small amount of cash, or have some sort of affiliate partnership.

I've got a job - i'm not poor.

EDIT: The VeronVideo site is back up, sorry for the bit of downtime.

@Veron
Is it okay if I link to you're site for mine and advertise it? (I don't require anything on my end - it may solve some problems for me though)

My site is www.aexuni.com - It's currently not setup cause I just got the domain purchased, and I need to make a "default" website. But when I get the default website up, I figured I might as well advertise your site - with your permission of course.

Cheers,

Yeah, feel free to link to it wherever you want.

For now, link to the cheapo subdomain, but in a few weeks i'll have a domain and server for it, so i'll let you know when to update the links for it.

Cool. I'll send you a more "private" email address (At least currently, it'll be open to the public when my site's up).

I'd prefer it if you emailed to the email address I send you.

Cheers,

Sounds good, once beta testing is over i'll have some channels set up for game-related videos only, and for large projects a channel dedicated to the project.

But first, bugs ahoy!

can you have a file link to VeronUpload so when someone goes on veronvideo they might look at a game and think "I want to play this" so they can easily click the link and download from VeronUpload.

Good idea!

The site freezes up way less, now about 2% of the time it will freeze rather than 15% or so earlier. AKA I've had it freeze once since you said you fixed it! Good job - its safer to go on there now.

Hmm, I think i've encountered a new bug - can a few of you sign up, and upload a quick video, and let me know if it uploaded successfully? It'd be helpful, and would save me weeks of testing on my own.

Hi Veron
As soon as I click your link AVG warns "Exploit Link to known exploit site". Anyway I closed the window and tried it again, no problem. Then I tried signing up, got to login link and clicked it. Same warning popped up. Closed window, opened your site link again, tried logging in and same warning again. Apart from the first time(clicking the link in your sig), the window I`m navigated to is this page cannot be displayed. The following image states I can view more details, but it just displays the file name again, and the link just takes me to AVG site with no further details at all. I`ve never come across this before and AVG is the full product, latest version.

Alright, the only thing that could warrant any message like that would be the use of session ID's - but they're used in basically every other site that requires decent registration...

Also I found a timeout bug with uploading long videos, it will automatically log you out in the middle of uploading a vid if it's too large - i'll fix that up tonight.

Does anyone think I should report the IP?
