Well, here's the deal, my parents used to be living alone, but then they had another kid 2 years ago(my sister) and they got together again because of her, but as they go together as well as a positively charged magnet and another positively charged magnet they are moving out again soon, and as I just have one computer I am going to purchase a notebook with these specs.
15.4-inch (diagonal), 1440 by 900 resolution, TFT widescreen
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo(Or maybe 2.6GHz)
2GB (two SO-DIMMs) 667MHz DDR2 memory (PC2-5300)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB of GDDR3 SDRAM and dual-link DVI
200GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm

And you know what's ironic, it's actually better than my desktop one...

:/ not bad, but needs an upgrade on:

Graphics card (GeForce 6800 GT or higher with 256mb cache)
Processor (at least 2.8GHz or faster)
DDR Processing unit for RAM utilisation (a.k.a RAM usage speed)

It won't be able to play Crysis without these upgrades

Specs should all be in my sig, main monitor is 24" version of the one in El Goorf's picture (1920x1200). (Plus the older 17" neovo e-17 to the left of it)

El Goorf: how are you liking the monitor? do you find the backlight flickers when you have the brightness about 20% or lower? 24" is big enough that because it is a TN panel the brightness isn't uniform and in portrait the colour distortion is quite apparent from what is then left to right
Otherwise it's a cracking screen after a little correction to the colour curves to fix the colour representation (think I lowered all the gamma a tiny but and the green channel's about twice as much)

[edit]: hard disks are 320 and 200gb sata + 40gb ide for linux
x-fi used for headphones, decent stereo pair and a suround pair. Optical link to hifi from onboard sound for music, I find this a great arrangement because it means that the x-fi as the default sound device gets all the annoying noises like msn, flash adverts etc, and leaves media player to use the onboard sound and stream bit perfect uninterrupted audio to my hifi

Nice hp office keyboard I got for £5 that I have fallen in love with and a saitek gm3200 mouse that I wish I hadn't wasted the money on.. thought lasers were meant to be _less_ fussy about surfaces

AMD AthlonX2 5000 black edition @2.8ghz, 2gb pc5400, AMD/ATi hd3850, creative xfi music, 24" hp widescreen 1920x1200, ECS KA3 MVP mobo
