I've dabbled in html, c, c++ (just a little), Visual Basic, and python. I usually just end up going back to DarkBASIC because it's more fun.

I personally wouldn't mind a website to use as a kind of archive for old project and other files. There was talk way back in the day about running everything from a separate website, but we decided it was best to keep the development on these forums, so that people would actually know about us and more new people would see us and want to help out.

@Darkzombies
off-topic
I am sure a MOD will come by and say, DO NOT DOUBLE POST!

@ OP - Members
On-topic... I am wondering if there is anything I can assist with like sounds or images or graphics or script or code or whatever...

Want to practice my 2D skills as it is

Will I require the 2D plugin for DBPro? and for anyone that has it is it any good and does it work on 7ux64?

EDIT

@MrValentine Those posts were 3 days apart O.o

And ask BN2 if you want to help with his current project.

@BN2 Ok, I just thought it would be fun to attempt and have a place where everyone can download ALL of the projects from one little area, somewhere to post source code and alot of other things, and if we ever do a big project somewhere to learn about that and so on.

Beyond the point... im not crucifying you anyway just telling you before a mod gets annoyed and puts you back on moderation or even worse a ban... it happens.

just edit your last post if nobody has posted since, we all get emailos of the final post anyway and I am one of those that checks and stores their email history, I use an email management application... IMAP is great but yeah I hope he reads my leight and replies soon when he is free

Well if you want to help out, welcome to the team! We won't require the 2D Plugin (I'm not totally sure what it does). I would prefer to use DBC for this one since it has pixel perfect collision (perhaps that's what the 2D Plugin does?). Alternatively we could be sneaky and use 3D objects but only control them in two dimensions (I'm not really too keen on doing that, but it's an option).

As far as what the project will need, pretty much anything you can give, to be honest. We will need artwork, coding, etc. Since we have a couple people here, I will draft up an overview of the project later today so that we can get the ball rolling.

I know this is a really old post but I'd really appreciate if I could be part of this, all I've been doing since I got DB is pulling apart codes and redoing their physics which is really boring. Im completely new but I'm ok at making game physics more realistic (acceleration, deceleration, collision deflections etc. primarily in racing games)

I'm pretty certain this is the latest proj.

[href] http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=184053&b=10&p=0[/href]

There's not much happening right now. I think we may try to start it up again in a month or so. Stay tuned....

Sounds interesting. Thanks for volunteering. Do you have any WIPs or any projects I could see? Just curious...

Maybe they will get around to it in a month? You've got to be kidding......no wait, you aren't.

I look at this thread every once and a while and I have to wonder, why is it here? I mean, the project managers are always busy with something or are having issues, and very little ever gets done to actually help newbies to learn how to code. I understand life has it's issues, but how long has this been going on? A very lllooonnngg time.

Daygamer, don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for you. You are different than most newbies, in that, unless they see results quickly, they are history (where is lilwereboy anyway? he's likely gone, as noone was there to help him or include him in anything - actually, he posted a thread in the DBPro Newcomers section as this had turned him off). Daygamer has stuck by the stuff even when the project managers were nowhere to be found. So Daygamer, my hat is off to you.

How this DNG crowd ever made the TGC Newsletter is beyond me; obviously the editor wasn't looking real close at what is happening or perhaps he was running a little short on news that month. I was going to hand you guys some code and provide assistance in the past, but no one responded, yet I keep seeing coders coming and going. I don't get that; I know I am not part of DNG, but what does that matter really? I thought the idea is that new people get the help they need to learn how to become decent coders and to make some fun games along the way.

It seems to me that DNG ought to put up or shut up. Either help these guys code some stuff on a regular basis or request the thread be locked. You do a disservice to legitimate newbies that want to learn, as all you are showing them is that you cannot be faithful to what you have committed to do and you give them the false hope that someone is out there that will help them along the way.

I do realize that newbies can fall away anyway; even experienced coders sometimes do that. I feel strongly that if you declare yourself as a leader, then be one and be faithful yourself, even when others are not. That's what leaders do.

I appreciate the sentiment, and believe me, I would if I could right now. Unfortunately, the only people who ever actually volunteer to try to lead projects are Obese and myself, and Obese doesn't have a computer (Ashingda started one at one point, but I couldn't help much - which is why I never volunteered to lead that one). I monitor this, and it does bug me that we can't seem to get projects off the ground. Sometimes, I'll admit, it is our (the leaders') fault. Other times, the members just disappear and stop posting. Without a team, a project can't get finished.

As it stands, I would love to (believe me, when I say that I really do want to help them out right now) but since I am now working 40+ hours a week, my time is limited right now (just posting on weekends wouldn't be fair to them). I was looking into trying to iron out a project schedule so that I could pull it off, but it's not looking like that will be a possibility. In a month (give or take), school starts and my workload drastically decreases.

That being said, if you think you've got what it takes, and you have the time, then by all means, take the reigns. We have people who want to start a project, but no one to lead it.

BN2:

Please understand that I mean no disrespect to you or Obese; you guys are capable coders and I believe your heart is in the right place. It just seems that life has caught up with you and it makes it difficult for you to be there for the newbies. I believe I can help them to learn how to code. I work 40 hours a week, but I am not in school, so I have more time available for coding.

I am willing to start a project, but I wouldn't want to work on any current project of DNG (I see Space Invaders and Asteroids). I assure you that I would do my utmost to stick with it.

Was a decision made as to what the next project was to be?

EDIT: If no project was decided upon, what about making a 2D version of Berzerk!

Thanks for stepping up LBFN!

The next project was never exactly finalized. I was looking into a bubble bobble clone, but it's up to you (since you would be leading it, it should be something you are familiar with). I can't recall playing berzerk, specifically, but some of the pictures on wikipedia do look familiar. I'd say go for it!

Good luck and thanks again!

I used to love playing Berzerk! I'm a little surprised you have not played it. It is a simple game where a stick-figured human moves through a maze filled with robots. The walls are electrified. The idea is to shoot the robots and move on to the next room. Some robots shoot back. If you take too long, Evil Otto (a smiley face actually) comes after you and will squish you if he can. Here is a link to the Stern Electronics arcade version:

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7096

I plan to start up a thread tomorrow morning. I am writing a game design document currently and should be finished then.

My concern here is someone talked of using DBC....... not sure I want to go that retro... as DBP is more versatile and for me user friendly...

Thanks for the video... umm maybe it can be spruced up? perhaps more like mgs 1 and 2 the original ones from the urm 80's?

If were going to use DBC... count me out I am more focussed on DBP as I have ploughed a fortune on it already... {add-ons/plug-ins etc}

EDIT

ahahahaha a GDD, feels like me and you read the same book!

@ Darkzombies you are risking a permanent ban for that link... read the AUP please!

I may be wrong but I am sure a MOD may think likewise I have read somewhere that linking to money generating links is against the AUP and general forum rules, just link to your direct Dropbox next time. { regardless I havent got anything against you just letting you know }

I guess we want to revive DNG instead of starting a whole new Project Group... Welcome to the new DNG haha...

Quote: "DBP is the bomb. "

too, true, too, true.

DBPro is IMO putting my life into perspective and opening new doors for me. Period. Without it I would never attempt Coding of any sort aside from some minot HTML copy paste... but now i have further insight into coding on all levels and languages and I now feel I will be able to reach C++ at some point.

anyhoo... I wonder how I can contribute to BertZerk? I await the GDD

I have started a new DNG thread for Berzerk! Everyone that wants to be a part of that game should post there instead, as this thread I believe is primarily intended for DNG news in general.

I hope I haven't raised your expectations too high regarding the GDD, MrValentine. It is included in the Berzerk! thread in a snippet. I normally would do it up with sketches, graphs and what-not, but I figured not everyone has MS Word, so I went with a no-frills, text only version.

We want to use our own stuff or things that we have clear permission to use in Berzerk! I have some temp stuff we can use if need be.

I did not want to clcik it eitherway but for your purpose I wanted to see what you came up with... just use the link tab when using links and let us see the link... doesnt matter if its long... it can be three miles long, we still will not challenge you as long as its a reputable source... and your linking from dropbox anyway so what does it matter we wills ee the link nevertheless... just dont do it anymore is all I am saying... it your so needing why not check that twitter thing out bit.ly something

Actually, Obese tried the Newcomers board, but did not receive a good response. See here:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=173481&b=7

It might be worth a try again after Berzerk is done, as we can point to a finished game that anyone can download, play and perhaps learn from. Personally, I like being off the beaten path.

It's been awhile, we should do a new project soon. I suggested a text adventure creator awhile ago, I thought that would be good to learn since it involves a bunch of frames and alot of other stuff to handle.

But of course there is alot of stuff we can try. I don't think we've done a sidescroller yet, that has promise.

I was hoping BN2 or Obese87 would jump on this. Anyway, there would need to be more interest in making a game for me to get on board. If enough people did come on, I would want it to be something simple to demonstrate basic 3D principles.

I'd like to take part in the next game project. I've only used Dark GDK and C++, but I'll begin working on my DBP skills. I'd like to do something with more graphics, not just words as the suggested text adventure game would demand. Also, you'd have me 1-2 hours per night on weekdays, 4-5 on weekends, and through February. I start class in early March.

I'm just looking forward to working on a team, but if I can have a say, I'd like to make a shoot em up game like Aegis Wing for the Xbox 360.

I just ordered the Dark Game Studio Bonanza so I've got a DBPro license now. I was having problems with the free edition and the ads. I've also got all those libraries like physics, AI, and all that other good stuff in the package. $50 is a bargain. I'll install them all when I get a new laptop in a few weeks. For now I'm working through some of the tutorials on the forum.

Hi travis gatlin,

I've been waiting to see if obese87 would jump in here. I would be willing to help out on a game project if there are at least 3 people that are interested in working on it.

I like your modeling skills - the guitars look good - good luck with the compo. Have you created any character models? If we do end up working on a project, I would want it to include 3D.

So many games to code.......so little time.

LBFN everytime people ask for 3D projects for some bizarre reason it ends up being a 2D project...

So I dunno...

I might just trh my hand at a 3D project myself...

However eitherway I am more than happy to host up ftp space again

Hi Mr V,

Thanks for the offer of FTP space - it was most helpful with Berzerk! and should be here also.

I def would like to make something 3D; we've completed a 2D project, so it makes sense to move to 3D for the next one.

So many games to code.......so little time.
