hi ppl, there's someone who has all the tgc products?
i.e. fps creator, model packs, extension, etc?

i'm asking this becouse i'm wondering how many products are needed to make a decent game.

my purchased TGC products are
DBC,DBpro,DMATTER1,DMATTER2,CLOTH and PARTICLES(this last is really useless), and i'm actual a caveman of the code.

I have just DBC and DBP. £10-£20 really is good for royalty free usage of the addon packs, but I don't have £10-£20 spare that I would want to spend on addon packs.

Well, let's see...I've got DBC from way back when, and now I use Visual Studio. But obviously since I haven't got all the TGC products, there is no chance of me making a "decent game". Darn.

I'm helplessly addicted to TGC Products. Next on my list, buy more of the FPSC model packs. From the several I own, they are REALLY good qaulity and worth the measly $20 for each. I buy them mostly for DBPro though

Also, I bought TreeMagik G2/G3 from the AlienCodec site before TGC bought them out, but someone in my family reformatted the computers hardrive without telling me (it was a family computer) and so I lost it. I went back to AlienCodec.com to see if I could get it back, as I was sure they would have a history of my purchase, but by then TGC bought them out:-(

EDIT: A word to the wise, if any of you are like me, don't purchase multiple DLL's at the same time. You will get tied up with one, and eventually lose interst in the other. This happened to me with DarkPhysics and Dark AI. As a result I really haven't fully learned either:-(

Surely TGC would honor past sales of the product?

In my experience a good game requires a good team of diverse roles, and very good planning. Since the internet will make it hard for you to work with a team, (face it, it's hard to do) I sigest you find other like minded people like yourself that live geographically close to you. If this cannot be done, as is the case with me, then I would focus more on learning the THEORY of gaming, rather than producing random games for fun. Learning the theory will get you farther in life when you eventually go to university.

But if youy can produce nice rich samples, by all means, go for it. You may be able to get scholorships or better employment consideration.

I actually haven't built up the nerve to ask them. I JUST (last night) asked them to restore an elusive Model Pack 1 to my order history, and a while ago asked them to place DBRO on it, as I own the disk. I may wait awhile, but it's definitely on my mind. G3 was a great program!

The same exact thing happened to me. As a result, I now have two pricey .dll packages that have hardly been touched. But buying them is so addicting..

I own pretty much every single TGC product. I'm lacking a couple FPSC model packs, but I'll get them eventually.

The Cloth and Particles pack is really good. You have great control over them and they work how they should. I'm using them in Geisha House. I wish that the Dark Physics particles were half as good. Dark Physics is however by far the best rigid body simulator available, and if you use different physics all you'll get are inferior rigid bodies.

Anyway, all you really NEED to make a decent game is Dark Basic Pro, EZ Rotate, Sparky's collision, and IanM's Matrix1 plugins. All of these plugins are free. Other plugins provide extra functionality, they all make developing something easier. Paid plugins that I use all the time are Dark AI, Dark Physics, Cloth and Particles, and the full version of EZRotate. I'm looking forward to using Enhanced Animations, it lets you do things with animation that DBP can't. DarkLights is great for making an editor, I haven't used it yet but I'm looking forward to it. I have DarkVoices but haven't really implemented it into anything, though I've animated my models in Geisha House for use with it. I bought Styx but it has too many commands that are the same as IanM's so it had to get the boot. I bought LUA Unity but I've replaced it with the free LUA plugin by Barnski and I use it in almost everything that I do.

I own DBC, DBP, two copies of DarkMATTER (came with DBC and DBP, along with those space games) Tree Magik and Plant Life, enhanced animations, Dark AI, and ExGen, in that order I think. I also bought FragMotion (not by TGC, it's www.fragmosoft.com) for creating animations. Wow....at least I got a lot of these as gifts.

for a physic engine use could use Dark Physics or we could all save money on the Physics engine and use Newton Game Dynamics www.newtondynamics.com/
which is free and not worry about wasting money when you lose intrest in it.

why not put all plugins together in a unique DBproduct?
i.e. DBPROextended, or DBPROgold edition, and so on...

actually this is an addictive taint for rookie programmers with lots of extension or plugins, people took most of their time purchasing tgc products and collecting it.
i think 90% of users here just collecting things and making some line of code for fun, they are the fulcrum of $$ for TGC, 5% making some little games with 1 or 2 TGC products, and a powerfull 5% making great games using many TGC products joined together, and they are the exposure on the web/market for TGC.
my last two games were posted in a national magazine here in italy, and the games show "coded with Darkbasicpro" in the frontend
a good exposure, and free.
it was my idea to add the recital of what program i used for making the game, dbpro is royaltyfree, but the most of us love to say that, adding a line of text with "coded with...", a gratitude behaviour.

someone has a different opinion? let me know.

Hey Ermes, good to see you back, old bean!

Although it would be nice to offer all the plugins as a set and give a discount on them, I think there would be some people who would use this negatively to critique how TGC do business. It's a marketing thing really, but if there was a set of plugins then TGC could be accused of falsely selling DBPro at a small price then charging a lot for the 'required' plugins. We know this isn't the case, we know there are alternatives and we know that you won't need every single plugin, but that wouldn't stop some people wording it to suit their own ends.

This is what I have...

Pro Motion
SkyMATTER Pack 1-10
ExGen
Dark Shader
Extends Expansion Pack
Dark Lights
Styx
Dark Physics
Dark AI
SoundMATTER Pack 1-4

Not too shabby, but I won most of those so I haven't spent very much at all on plugins.

Dark Basic Pro
Dark GDK
Sound Matter

And I used to have Dark Basic Classic and Dark Matter (but gave them to a friend)

That's all the TGC content I have, but you may need more to make good 3D games, you may need music, images, textures and 3D models - you can use free content for that or make your own, so my other software has been bought outside of TGC (I don't like the 3D software TGC sells)

DBPro
DBClassic
Extends Expansion Pack
BlueGui2
DarkScript
FPSC

May get DarkPhysics soon, but its very rarley i buy DLL's as there does tend to be a fair few free ones out there nowerdays, Also i dont think DarkScript is sold on this site as i think i had to go to an external site to buy it, I've also got DBClassic somewhere, but dont use that anymore.

As for DLL's from the forum, im not even going to check, proberley 20 to 30 as i tend to add a DLL to get a single command, then forget about it.

Well, 3d software TGC is selling is for small wallets, and i must say they do their work , usually i use 3dmax 4.0 or 8.0, because at work we use some rendering programs, i'm wondering how TGC could sell programs like MAYA or 3DMAX...

Hi Van B, nice to see you, i'm happy you're still a mod here.
well, my last game posted here was sundaypanzers, 4 years ago,
then, nothing of finished, a car race game, a wwi flying sim game, some project started and halted in a couple of days...

anyway i'm coding something new here, bah, i'm a bit rusty.

Mod's dont get paid as they are volunteers, although they do have access to extra boards on the Forumz, (Mod's Only), and i think they get trial versions of software, ect for testing, ect.

To be honest, I can't really remember, I think it might just have been that I went to the fpsc website because someone linked me there or something so I checked the forums and I decided to join in and do some 3d work and voila! There's a Alucard94 on the TGC Forums!

I'm not a TGC employee. I used to trade my newsletter tutorials for products when I first started writing them. Now, I see the value in buying a plugin over coding it yourself so I keep buying. I keep my time for doing the fun bits, and let people like Ron (Wolf) solve the difficult stuff.
